The Look For Less: Tiffany & Co. Star Necklace

Star light, star bright. The star craze keeps on keeping on. Here we have a gorgeous but very expensive Tiffany & Co. Star Link Lariat Necklace ($1,100). There are several things I like about this necklace, but the price tag is not one of them. Its delicateness is stunning, as is the combination of the big and little stars. It would look as darling with a simple gray tank as it would an LBD. Too bad I would go bankrupt if I ever purchased it.

Alas, my research skills serve me well. Check out this Blue Nile Star Lariat Necklace in Sterling Silver ($65). Now that's more like it. Even though it doesn't have as many stars on it, it has the same lariat detail. Now I can't live without it.

Remembering Alice Coltrane

Alice Coltrane - jazz pianist, composer, and wife of the late John Coltrane - died on Friday at the age of 69. A classically trained musician who incorporated the harp into jazz music, Coltrane played in her husband's band and released several solo albums. "Blue Nile" (below) is off of her 1970 album Ptah the El Daoud. (Thanks to Audiversity for posting the track!)

Brand Sites: Although you'll be paying much more for the brand, perhaps buying a ring from a well-known retailer will give you peace of mind, and you won't have to worry about the quality. If Countries Had Perfumes, What Would They Smell Like?

Lithuania has announced that it's concocted its own national perfume called "Feeling Lithuania." The scent, according to creator Mindaugas Stongvilas, is "representing Lithuania and the Lithuanian character. For Lithuanians to identify themselves with this perfume, we've added the smell of wood fires that can be associated with pagan rituals, as well as moss and wildflowers." Yep, nothing like the smell of something burning and dandelions to remind you of home.

What if other countries go the Lithuanian route, though, and create their own fragrance? We've come up with a few suggestions for other national fragrances from some of our favorite places, so just keep reading.
