All this week, we've been featuring the Oscar nominees for Best Cinematography, including The Black Dahlia, The Illusionist, Children of Men, Pan's Labyrinth, and The Prestige. Now that you've seen the galleries, what movie do you think deserves to win?

Every week up until the Oscars, I'll be featuring the nominees in the various visual categories, starting this week with cinematography. Yesterday, I had a gallery of stills from The Black Dahlia, and today's nominee is The Prestige.

Like The Black Dahlia, The Prestige benefits from Scarlett Johansson, whose classic beauty fits nicely in period films. The Prestige tells the story of two magicians in turn-of-the-century London whose intense rivalry ultimately leads to murder. The other cast members - including Michael Caine, David Bowie, Hugh Jackman, and Christian Bale - also look right at home in the smoky mystery. Between the actors' distinguished looks and director Christopher Nolan's cinematic skills, the end result is an atmosphere of dark intrigue. Oscar Nominee: The Black Dahlia for Cinematography

While The Black Dahlia was critically panned as a bit of a snooze-fest, director Brian DePalma clearly got something right in creating a classic film-noir atmosphere. The clean-cut cast members - including Josh Hartnett, Hilary Swank, Scarlett Johansson and Aaron Eckhart - appear polished and glamorous. If you look at the images without hearing the actors talk or try to act, the effect is beautiful and evocative. Oscar Nominee: The Illusionist for Cinematography

Every week up until the Oscars, I'll be featuring the nominees in the various visual categories, starting this week with cinematography. Yesterday, I had a gallery of stills from Children of Men, and today's nominee is The Illusionist.

This Neil Burger-directed film-starring Edward Norton and Jessica Biel-isn't a masterpiece, but its visual mastery is entirely deserving of an Oscar nod, if not a win. Set in turn-of-the-century Vienna, this intrigue-filled tale of a magician and his mistress excels thanks to the work of cinematographer Dick Pope. Every week up until the Oscars, I'll be featuring the nominees in the various visual categories, starting this week with cinematography. Yesterday, I had a gallery of stills from Pan's Labyrinth, and today's nominee is Children of Men.

In this movie, director Alfonso Cuaron strove to capture a grim futuristic world in which the continuation of the human race is threatened. The filmmakers were incredibly thorough and detailed in creating such a dark and hopeless atmosphere where desperate people have resorted to intense violence. The Oscar nominations are out, and I'm busy seeing movies and filling out my Oscar ballot before the winners are announced on Feb. 25. I want you guys to be prepared, so every week up until the Oscars I'll be featuring the nominees in the various visual categories, starting this week with cinematography.

Today's featured nominee for Achievement in Cinematography is Pan's Labyrinth, the dark fantasy directed by Mexican director Guillermo Del Toro. As Del Toro's cinematographer, Guillermo Navarro was charged with creating two distinct environments: the steely, hopeless reality of post-war Spain and the lush but sinister fantasy world that Ofelia ventures into. Announcing the 2012 Oscar Winners!

The Oscars have wrapped, and this year's big winner is indisputably The Artist with several wins, including best picture, best director, and best actor for Jean Dujardin. Besides The Artist, there were a few other award season front-runners that continued their streak, but there was also a surprise or two during the show (yay Meryl!).

Rooney Mara Goes White For Her Big Oscars Moment

Rooney Mara hit the red carpet at the Academy Awards this evening in LA wearing white Givenchy. She's up for her first-ever Oscar thanks to her star-making role as Lisbeth Salander in David Fincher's The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. Rooney's up in the best actress category alongside some of Hollywood's most respected actresses, including The Iron Lady's Meryl Streep, The Help's Viola Davis, Albert Nobbs's Glenn Close, and My Week With Marilyn's Michelle Williams. Rooney's movie is also in the running for statues in the categories of best achievement in cinematography, film editing, sound editing, and sound mixing. What do you think of Rooney's look? Meryl Streep, The Artist, and Hugo Win Big - and More Oscars Highlights!

Billy Crystal started his ninth stint as the host of the Oscars with a montage of some of the year's best movies, which included cameos from Justin Bieber, Tom Cruise, and more. He kicked things off with a well-timed joke about the Oscars during what is a tough time for some. Billy said, "Nothing can take the sting out of the world's economic problems like watching millionaires present each other with golden statues.”

It was a huge evening for Hugo. The Martin Scorsese picture ended up taking home statues for wins in cinematography, art direction, sound editing, and sound mixing. The Artist, as many predicted, also had numerous wins with costume design and art direction. Best director went to Michel Hazanavicius, and it was later crowned best picture.

Gwyneth Paltrow and Robert Downey Jr. took the stage to hilariously present best documentary. Jennifer Lopez and Cameron Diaz were another memorable duo, and they even incorporated a bit of choreography. The ladies of Bridesmaids reconvened as well to present a trio of awards, with Maya Rudolph and Kristin Wiig doing a silly, sort-of-sexual bit about the pros and cons of "short" films.

A tearful Octavia Spencer thanked her family after winning a best supporting actress honor for The Help. Octavia's costar Jessica Chastain, was also up for the honor. Jessica, though, kissed Octavia on the lips once the winner was read, saying, "I love you." Eighty-two-year-old Christopher Plummer won the corresponding honor for Beginners. He joked about winning during the 84th annual Oscars, saying, "You're only two years older than me, darling! Where have you been all my life?"

Meryl Streep took home a best actress Oscar for The Iron Lady, in one of the evening's biggest surprises! She accepted the honor in a gold Lanvin gown, breaking a 30-year streak of not winning despite multiple nominations. Meryl worried that half of America was tired of seeing her win, and then sweetly went on to thank her husband Don Gummer. On the guy side, France's Jean Dujardin won best actor for The Artist. He said to the crowd, "I love your country!"
