Stephen Colbert Confronts Willie Nelson Over Ice Cream

Willie Nelson appeared on The Colbert Report last night to discuss his new Ben & Jerry's flavor, Country Peach Cobbler. Seeing as how Stephen just got his own Americone Dream ice cream, he used the interview as an opportunity to confront his celebrity-dessert competition.

In case you missed it, Comedy Central has posted two highly entertaining clips. The first has Colbert calling out Nelson's nefarious agenda with an attack ad, in which an "ice cream expert" (read: little kid) asks: "Why would I want to eat ice cream the pot man told me to eat? Pot people are high. They'll eat anything."

Got the Munchies? Try Willie's New Ice Cream

Not to be outdone by Stephen Colbert, Willie Nelson now has his own flavor of Ben & Jerry's ice cream, called Country Peach Cobbler. It sounds quite delicious and unlike any other Ben & Jerry's flavor I've tried: peach-flavored ice cream laced with cinnamon-sugar shortbread pieces. Plus, the packaging has Willie's face on it, which could provide hours of laughs. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Farm Aid.

You may have heard about the voluntary recall of 250,000 pints of Country Peach Cobbler, but no need to worry unless you are allergic to wheat. The ice cream is fine, but the packaging lacks an allergy warning. For details on how Ben & Jerry came up with the flavor, read more

In an interview with Ben & Jerry's spokesperson Sean Greenwood, Rolling Stone Rock & Roll Daily learned that the ice cream makers are far more likely to name a flavor after a musician with do-gooder tendencies. Though the article doesn't really explain whether Nelson approached Ben & Jerry's or vice versa, it does shed some light on the flavor selection:

Willie’s flavor took after the Southern style peach dessert because, according to Greenwood, “Willie is a downhome Texan Americana guy.” When they floated the peach idea by Mr. Nelson, his response was appropriately laid-back: “Groovy!” he reportedly drawled.

I'm going to see Willie Nelson during his five-night stint at the Fillmore in April, and you can bet I'll be picking up a pint or two of this stuff.

Ben & Jerry Do "The Colbert Report"

I know you're all excited about the launch of Americone Dream, the new Ben & Jerry's ice cream that combines two of our favorite things: Stephen Colbert and chocolate. But while I expected the usual hilarity when Ben & Jerry's co-founders Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield appeared on "The Colbert Report" last night, the interview was even funnier that I'd anticipated.

In case you missed it, we've got a video from the segment, where Stephen introduces his newly christened ice-cream flavor. Here's a taste:

"That's right nation: Now you can join me internally as well as externally. Every delicious bite is full of crispy fudge-covered waffle cone - the only time I waffle... Look at the packaging! That picture is so hot it's amazing the stuff stays frozen."

Ice Cream Moves Colbert Closer to World Domination

You might have heard by now that "The Colbert Report" star Stephen Colbert will be getting his own ice cream, courtesy of Ben & Jerry's. Now, I'm as excited as the next girl to dip into Americone Dream (vanilla ice cream, fudge-covered waffle cone pieces, caramel, and a dash of truthiness - "the sweet taste of liberty in your mouth," says the press release). But when my girl Yum and I were chatting about this, we wondered if Colbert maybe wasn't getting a little greedy. After all, he already has a hockey team, a bald eagle, and - oh, right! - a TV show.

On the other hand, is Colbert's potential for world domination really a bad thing? If he really wants to make his mark, maybe he could try to get his name on one of these:

An endowed chair at a major university (The Stephen Colbert Professor of Patriotism Studies, perhaps?)
A federal building
A planet
An element
A disease
A wild bear refuge
