Buzz-Worthy Video: Beck, Feist, Wilco Performing Together

Guaranteed way to make me drop everything I'm doing and press play: tell me that Beck, Feist, and Wilco are collaborating. It's true; Beck recruited the folk chanteuse, the rock band, and British singer Jamie Lidell to join him to perform a tribute to '60s musician Skip Spence.

Their cover of Spence's song, "Little Hands," was recorded in the famous Sunset Sound Studios in Hollywood in ultrahip black and white. The song is beautiful, but I'm still just beaming to see some of my favorite artists in one room together (including Jeff Tweedy's son Spencer on drums!). And Beck, you're rocking that devil's haircut.

What to Download: New Music on iTunes

Tuesdays are big in entertainment-ville: Not only do all the new DVD releases hit Netflix, but new music also pours into stores, including iTunes. So I take a spin through each week's iTunes music releases and pick out some albums and tracks worthy of a download. Here are today's selections:

Psychedelic Beck: The buzz around Beck's new album, Modern Guilt, is really, really good, and he's just the sort of artist to give voice (and music) to some of the most troubling and complex issues of our time. At first listen, I get the feeling that the state of the world has Beck sincerely concerned - and, in his view, the future ain't so bright. Tracks like "Chemtrails" and "Youthless" are heavy, but I can't stop listening. It's all very trippy and retro, and I'll probably end up downloading the whole thing.

Get the party started: Yay! Even though Abba's greatest hits are available to us at any time, I'm excited to check out the movie soundtrack for Mamma Mia! and hear all the stars sing. Definitely give a listen to Meryl Streep singing the title track, "Mamma Mia." Also, Amanda Seyfried sounds amazing on songs like "I Have a Dream." I just cannot wait for July 18!

Pretty folk songs: This Portland, Oregon duo is a sound for sore ears and a nice addition to my iTunes mix. Think Bright Eyes or the softer side of the Shins. Their album, 3 Rounds and a Sound, is lovely, and I've downloaded - and am enjoying - "The Story I Heard" and "One Red Thread."

When the greats get together: Back in January 2007, Willie Nelson and Wynton Marsalis performed together at Lincoln Center, wowing crowds with their shared love of jazz and blues. Now, you can get the performance for yourself. I'm a sucker for old standards like "Georgia on My Mind," and Willie Nelson's voice coupled with this gorgeous jazz sound is a total treat.

BuzzSugar's Must Haves for July

Well, July may not be the biggest book release time of the year (go figure), and it's a little weak on the music, too - but there are still plenty of entertainment options capturing my attention this month. My must haves include Summer escapism in an air-conditioned movie theater, an interesting read, a trip to the '60s, and one musical beacon whose new album has me excited. Song of the Day: Beck, "Forget Marie"

Though I'm not exactly a Beck fanatic, I do own all of his albums, and I appreciate the musician's expert ability to dabble in so many genres. Most recently, he's handing us an experiment in country music in the form of a cover tune: "Forget Marie," written by the recently deceased Lee Hazlewood.

Recorded in Nashville and now streaming on Beck's homepage, the ambling cowboy tune will appeal to fans of Beck ballads. The ethereal but quirky vibe reminds me a lot of his album, Mutations, which is one of my favorites. I especially like the whistling at the end. Give it a listen and tell me what you think.

Beck and Ryan Adams have designed book covers for classic books as part of a project for the Penguin publishing house, Pitchfork reports.
Katherine Heigl is starting a production company whose first project is an action-comedy, Reuters reports.
E! reports that the fourth Shrek film already has a tentative release date: May 21, 2010.
The Futon Critic has the details on how Fox is shifting its fall lineup, moving "Bones" back to Tuesdays, putting "Kitchen Nightmares" on Wednesdays, and saving "New Amsterdam" for midseason.
Gabriel Macht will star in the film adaptation of Will Eisner's comic series The Spirit, which is being written and directed by Frank Miller, Variety reports.
Thousands of classic "Siskel and Ebert" review clips are now online, writes the Hollywood Reporter.
William H. Macy will star in the TNT drama pilot "Family Man," which he also co-wrote, Zap2it reports.
Jack Black has signed on for The Lost Adventures of Stone Perlmutter Jr., a mockumentary about a bumbling traveler who believes himself to be an Indiana Jones-style adventurer.
