Live Action Barbie Movie in the Works - Who Should Play Her?

We were just talking about the trend of board games getting made into movies, and now comes word that the holy grail of childhood toys, Barbie, is also getting a film deal.

Universal Pictures is teaming up with Mattel to develop a family film based on the doll, but here's the kicker: it's going to be live-action. That means two Hollywood types are going to be playing the famous blonde with impossibly high arches and her anatomically challenged boyfriend, Ken.

Let's talk casting. I'm sure a bunch of celeb mommies will be lining up to take on the part - what mom wouldn't want to play a role that's guaranteed to be a huge hit with her kids? - and I'm curious to see just which lady lands the lead. Until then, let's have some fun and try a few guesses of our own. Who would you choose to portray Barbie and Ken in the new movie?

Mattel Plans More Toy-Inspired Movies

The Transformers movie clearly turned out to be massively successful for the Hasbro toy company, and talk of a sequel swiftly followed the first movie's release. Then a G.I. Joe movie went into development, followed by a deal with Universal to make at least four movies based on Hasbro products, including Ouija, Candyland and Battleship, among others.

Not to be outdone, rival toy company Mattel got to work on a live-action "300-style" He-Man movie (with rumors of Brad Pitt taking the main role) and now there are a few more toy-inspired projects on the way. Apparently the company hopes to make an action film based on Hot Wheels, and at long last, Barbie will get her very own live-action feature film (though, as we all know, it's not exactly easy to find real women with the Barbie doll's measurements, or those who walk only on their tiptoes).

Obviously these projects are done with the intention of selling more toys, but do you think there's anything cool or interesting about them? And what kind of character will Barbie be?

Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz Are Living a Nightmare in the Dream House Trailer

Don't let the sweet title fool you: Dream House is a far cry from a movie about Barbie's pink mansion. From the moment the trailer begins, we're bombarded with tons of standard horror movie fare: innocent little kids laughing, creepy piano music playing in the background, and a general feeling that something is amiss in a family's beautiful new home. Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz play Will and Libby, who move their adorable daughters into a house that starts creeping them out before they've even unpacked their boxes. After a little digging around, Will learns that a family was killed there, and only the father survived. Things get even more intense when it turns out that Will is the same man who lost his family, and he's only recently been released from psychiatric care.

The trailer immediately had me thinking of movies like The Others, Shutter Island, and The Amityville Horror, but the twist here is that it seems that Will didn't actually commit any crimes. Though the preview made my skin crawl, it looks like as much of a mystery as a horror flick. Plus, this is the movie that brought now-married Craig and Weisz together, so I'm interested to see if their chemistry will be reflected in their performances. Watch the trailer when you

Mila Kunis Lands on the Cover of W in Feathers and a Bra

Mila Kunis strikes a sultry pose for the March cover of W Magazine. Inside the Spring Fashion Issue, which is on newstands Feb. 25, Mila lounges in lace and ruffles in a spread shot by Craig McDean. The Black Swan actress, who is also currently featured in LA Times Magazine, opened up to Lynn Hirschberg about training for the film, her acting career, and her beauty. Mila says she wasn't raised to think she was pretty, but the world seems to disagree since the guys voted her most desirable dream date in TrèsSugar's Valentine's Day survey with AskMen.com. Here's more:

On her looks: "I was never raised to think that I was pretty. It's not that I was raised to think I was unattractive, but it was just never something that was pointed out to me by my family. They would point out personality traits-'Our daughter is really quirky'-versus what I look like, because inevitably, looks go, so it makes no difference."
On her acting start: "I started acting when I was nine as a hobby because it was fun, and it allowed me to get out of school. The first thing I did was a Barbie commercial, and I got to keep the Barbie. That's all a kid wants."
On watching herself dance in Black Swan: "Before I started, I couldn't even lift my arm properly. I literally had no posture, so, yeah, the first time I saw the movie, my jaw dropped. I was like, Oh, my God-I don't suck. And it's great that the performance has been captured on film, because I will never put on those pointe shoes again."

Penelope Stunning in Skintight Stella With Johnny by Her Side For Cannes Pirates Photo Call

Penelope Cruz looked phenomenal in her curve-hugging Stella McCartney dress and Johnny Depp was dapper in white at this afternoon's Cannes Film Festival Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides photo call ahead of tonight's big premiere. The two posed for cameras alongside their costars, including cute newcomer Sam Claflin, as they headed in to take questions at a press conference. The two kept things light answering their questions, with Johnny joking that he's "scared" of critics and the only reviews he pays attention to are his kids' - they've given this one raves. "My family have seen more of my movies than I have. In fact, a lot more, including this one," Johnny said, "So they go and see the movies, and basically, I can tell by their reaction if I did all right or not. So I'm very lucky in that way. They seem to enjoy them so far. I haven't been fired by my kids."

He also revealed that his little ones are where he tests his material: "They've been angels through this process, because I started out secretly testing characters on them to see how the reactions would be. When my daughter was little, we'd be playing Barbies, and I'd start doing these voices. Finally, she just said, 'Stop.'"

In the movie, the characters are looking for the fountain of eternal youth, but in real life the stunning 37-year-old Penelope isn't afraid to age. She spoke about people's obsession with staying young: "Birthdays are always something to celebrate. I'm looking forward to every step of the way. Maybe because I'm from Spain, that's looked at in a different way there than, for example, a place like Los Angeles . . . There are a lot of things that I keep from my roots and that's one of them, the way we look at that. I never want to be afraid of that. Change is good."

The two were soon off to make a costume change before this evening's red-carpet gala, which is just the latest on an international press tour that has already included stops in Russia and London.
