Do You Like Seeing Politicians on Late Night TV?

Earlier this week CBS announced that President Barack Obama will be on The Late Show With David Letterman on Monday. In fact, the entire broadcast will be devoted to Obama's visit, which is a huge milestone. Obama was a guest several times on the program during his campaign for office, but this is the first time a current president has appeared on the show.

I get why Obama is sitting in Dave's chair, but isn't The Late Show better suited to guests like, oh, Drew Barrymore and George Clooney? Not to mention, President Bill Clinton is set to be Letterman's guest on Tuesday, so we'll have back-to-back policy talk.

Maybe it's just me, but I've always tuned into late night shows for the lighter celebrity stuff. If I want to hear about health care reform, I'll flip to MSNBC. But what's your take on this - do you like watching politicians on late night TV?

Obama's Mama Gets Her Own Feature-Length Documentary

President Obama has his own documentary coming from Edward Norton, and now Obama's mother is becoming the focus of a feature-length documentary film titled Stanley Ann Dunham: A Most Generous Spirit. The project will portray Obama's upbringing with Dunham in Indonesia and Hawaii, and will also highlight Dunham's "pioneering work in the field of Third World microfinance, which assists small entrepreneurs, mostly women, in developing countries." Executive producer Mary Aloe stated:

She gave a lot of the backbone to our current president and his compassion to the people. With these small-scale economies, she took a concept that was emerging just as women were getting their rights and got them to think outside the box. She is a fascinating woman, and she was ahead of her time.

There certainly seems to be enough fodder for a feature-length movie. Do you think you'll want to check out this documentary about Obama's mama?

President Barack Obama will address the nation tonight in his second primetime news conference, throwing the TV schedule into disarray. American Idol shifted its performance show to Wednesday, NBC moved The Biggest Loser an hour later, and several other shows have been preempted entirely. Though many of you think the networks should move over for Obama, the networks have been grumbling about the lost advertising and saying apparently the economic stimulus doesn't apply to them. As for you, I'm curious: Are you tired of the interruptions, or are you fine with the president breaking into your regularly scheduled TV?

Buzz In: Where and How Did You Watch the Inauguration?

Barack Obama was sworn in as the 44th president of the United States earlier today, and as thousands gathered in DC for the event, millions more were expected to be watching the events on television around the world.

Several cities showed the broadcast on big screens - including in New York's Times Square. It was also carried via live streaming video on CNN.com, Hulu, and many other sites.

So I'm wondering: Where and how did you watch Obama's historic inauguration? Did you pull up a Hulu stream at your desk? Gather with friends and family to watch from the couch? Meet up in a public square to watch on a big screen? TiVo it for later viewing? Watch while waiting in line at the bank, like I saw many people doing on my way to work this morning? Edward Norton Developing Barack Obama Documentary

Edward Norton and his production company are developing a documentary about Barack Obama. Directors Amy Rice and Alicia Sams have been shooting footage since 2006, before Obama's declaration of candidacy when Norton and his group of collaborators approached Obama and he welcomed the idea. They've been steadily filming ever since.

According to Variety, "Norton said the motivation behind the film was not to glorify its subject." The idea for the project came after Obama gave a speech at the 2004 Democratic National Convention, which struck him as exciting, fresh and unique. For more of these insights from Norton, read more.

We were all so struck by Barack’s speech and talked about how exciting it was to see someone from our generation, not our parents’, make his presence felt in such an inspiring way. It was akin to the way I remembered my dad describing how he felt when Kennedy gave his inauguration speech . . . It was more this generational experience, of seeing someone we felt represented us in a very unique and fresh way, and the desire to explore what would happen to the first person our age who staked a claim to national leadership.

Norton goes on to say that they already have hours of footage and plan to continue shooting through Obama's presidential run, but that "the film has to say something about politics in America, and just because you have access doesn’t mean you have insight." It's obviously not the first documentary to come out of a politician's election campaign - Alexandra Pelosi's Journeys With George is an interesting peek into the current president's 2000 campaign, for example - but I'm curious to find out what Norton and the two directors (both women, which is neat) will produce.
