Anton Yelchin, Felicity Jones, and Drake Doremus on Like Crazy and Shooting Without a Script

Like Crazy premiered earlier this year at Sundance, and now the festival favorite is about to hit the big screen in wide release. We sat down with stars Anton Yelchin and Felicity Jones, who play a pair of young lovers struggling to keep their long distance relationship alive. They talked about what it was like working without a script (the movie is almost entirely improvised), and how they developed their onscreen chemistry. Director Drake Doremus also discussed how he chose his leads and what he makes of the film's comparisons to Blue Valentine.

George and Stacy Arrive Together For Michelle Williams's Big Hollywood Night

George Clooney had lady friend Stacy Keibler on his arm last night to attend the 15th annual Hollywood Film Awards at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. The couple are fresh off a stint in Europe, where Stacy joined George for the Paris premiere of The Ides of March and a London screening of The Descendants. She represented her favorite football team with her purple Maria Lucia Hohan gown. Stacy tweeted, "Wearing my Ravens purple to the Hollywood Film Awards. . . Will have to keep checking the score on my phone." This was another big evening for George, who accepted the Hollywood Actor Award from his Descendants costar Beau Bridges.

Many more of George's fellow actors were honored, including Michelle Williams, who looked gorgeous in a black strapless Nina Ricci number. Michelle Williams accepted the Hollywood Actress Award once the show began, and later met up with her best friend Busy Philipps. However, Michelle was solo on the red carpet, and we caught a minute with her. She flew to California from the Michigan set of Oz: The Great and Powerful, and her daughter Matilda has been there to see the filming. Michelle said of the kid-friendly picture, "This one's for Matilda." Michelle shared room on the press line with other lovely ladies like a Pucci-clad Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Emma Stone in Jonathan Saunders, and Carey Mulligan in Bottega Veneta. Fright Night: A Pump of Fresh Blood

Move over Edward Cullen - an old-school breed of vampire has returned to the big screen and his style is much more exhilarating than your PG take on bloodsucking. Rather than pine after a high school love, he’s interested in doing what vampires do best: kill. In Fright Night, Colin Farrell stars as Jerry Dandridge, a charismatic vampire who has recently moved into a suburban neighborhood in Las Vegas and begun victimizing the locals. Anton Yelchin plays Charley Brewster, a high school senior who lives next door to Jerry and suspects he might be responsible for the recent bout of disappearances in the neighborhood.

The film is a remake of a 1985 horror-comedy by the same name, and it does a great job of sinking its fangs into each genre, providing a movie that is equals parts funny and frightening. read more. Farrell nails the role of a super-seductive bloodsucker. When his eyes aren’t turned black in preparation for attack, he’s using them to flirtatiously stare at every woman on the block - the neighborhood hottie, Charley’s mom Jane (Toni Collette), and even Charley's teenage girlfriend Amy (Imogen Poots), whom Jerry unabashedly calls “ripe.” He flip flops back and forth between charmer and murderous monster, but his scenes in attack mode don’t necessarily incite huge amounts of fear. That's partly because Jerry is more of a pathological, methodical killer, who tends to lure his victims with sex appeal and relish the kill with controlled calmness. However, the special effects, which transform Farrell’s face into a terrifying creature, carrying out the task of making you jump in your seat, a feat that Jerry's hunting style lacks. Yelchin is adequate, but overshadowed by supporting cast members, like Christopher Mintz-Plasse. He plays Charley’s former nerdy best friend, and delivers some of the film’s funniest moments, including poking fun at Twilight. David Tennant also emerges as one of the funniest characters in his role as a magician whose act revolves around pretending to be a vampire slayer. With his heavy eye-liner and leather pants, he comes off as a cross between Jack Sparrow and Russell Brand, with also provides extra laughs. The intense chase and fight scenes between Charley and Jerry fulfill the horror side of things. Tension-filled exchanges, like when Jerry tries to determine if Charley knows he’s a vampire, and when Charley breaks into Jerry’s home to save a victim, had me biting my nails. Regardless of how you like your vampires, Fright Night will entertain you with a steady stream of laughs and plenty of moments that are creepy (but won't give you nightmares).

Like Crazy Trailer: Young Love Is Tough Stuff For Anton Yelchin, Felicity Jones, and Jennifer Lawrence

The first trailer for Like Crazy accurately captures the spirit of the movie: quiet, touching, bittersweet. The film stars newcomer Felicity Jones and Anton Yelchin as a pair of young lovers whose relationship is put to the test when she must return to her home in England while he stays in the States. What ensues is the trajectory of a typical long-distance relationship for twentysomethings: tearful phone calls, breakup threats, and the constant question of whether love is worth fighting for.

I fell in love with the film back at Sundance, particularly for the great performances from its leads. Jennifer Lawrence also has a small role, but really, this film is all Yelchin and Jones. Fright Night Trailer: Colin Farrell Takes a Bite Out of Teens

Colin Farrell showed up paunchy and bald in the recent Horrible Bosses trailer, but in the preview for Fright Night he's looking a whole lot better . . . even though he may be dead. In the remake of the '80s horror flick, Farrell plays a vampire named Jerry (Jerry? Not the sexiest bloodsucker name, but OK) who moves in next door to Charley (Anton Yelchin), a high school student who's too busy thinking about his girlfriend to notice that some of his classmates are disappearing.

He's forced to take notice by his friend Ed (Christopher Mintz-Plasse), and pretty soon Jerry has his teeth pointed at Charley, his girlfriend, and Charley's mom (Toni Collette). Charley then suits up as a vampire slayer to go head-to-head against Jerry and protect everyone from the new vampire in town. Fright Night is just the latest movie to capitalize on the sizzling hotness of vampires, but this actually looks like clever and cool - if anything, the Jerry/Charley showdown will be a fun fight to the finish. Sundance Snapshot: Like Crazy

I can't say I'm surprised that Like Crazy, a little love story that's both enchanting and heartbreaking (a la last year's Blue Valentine) was one of the first films to get picked up for wide release from Sundance. It's got all the makings of a festival favorite: an engaging story packed with emotion, a premise that audiences can relate to, and breakthrough performances from a pair of young actors.

Who's behind it? The film stars Anton Yelchin (Star Trek, Terminator Salvation) and British up-and-comer Felicity Jones, and was directed by Sundance vet Drake Doremus.
What's it about? Yelchin and Jones play Jacob and Anna, a couple who meets in their senior year of college and instantly develop a connection when they begin dating. Complications arise when Anna, a Brit, violates the terms of her visa and consequently has to return to England. As they step into the real world and begin their separate lives as adults, Jacob and Anna's long-distance relationship is tested as they grow apart but can't seem to shake their connection.
