Celebrity Sighting Opportunities at the NYC Marathon

While my main focus will be on American Olympian Shalane Flanagan in tomorrow's New York City Marathon, I'll also be keeping an eye on the celeb entrants. (They're running for charity, after all!) Anthony Edwards Makes His Return to TV

If you are fan of Anthony Edwards, get excited. The actor is returning to TV in a new five-hour NBC television special. You may have even heard of the much-anticipated program - it's a little something called the New York City Marathon.

Watch this hilarious video as Edwards describes how he's been preparing for his next acting role as "a runner." And make sure to hold out until the three-minute mark where he talks about some of his favorite runners, "Run-DMC, Forrest Gump . . ."

Movie Preview: Uma Thurman in Motherhood

I first heard about Motherhood during the Sundance Film Festival, but now there's a full-length trailer to see. Not unlike the classic Parenthood, the film focuses on the frustrating, messy (and often comical) side of being a parent - except this time it's all about the matriarch. Sure, Anthony Edwards (Goose!) is there as the somewhat clueless husband, but the focus is on Eliza Welsh's (Uma Thurman) life as the seemingly last stay-at-home mom in the world. As she suffers the scrutiny of everyone from playground moms to snarky cashiers, frazzled Eliza finally finds time for herself by writing for a parenting magazine. The movie looks like it might have a few funny moments, but it also looks pretty touchy-feely. To check out the preview and let me know what you think,

Buzz In: What Dead or Long-Gone Characters Should Return?

Tonight, Dr. Mark Greene returns to County General for a very special episode of ER. Once ER's leading man, Anthony Edwards left the show in 2002 to pursue other opportunities but was persuaded to come back in this final season to help the show bid farewell. Dr. Greene (thankfully) won't be returning as a ghost, instead appearing in a flashback for Dr. Cate Banfield (Angela Bassett).

Greene's reappearance - and the frequent gossip about whether George Clooney will also return to the show - has gotten me thinking about other dead (or merely long-gone) characters I'd love to see return to TV shows currently on the air. Grey's Anatomy certainly hasn't been stingy with bringing back Denny Duquette, but I wouldn't cry about a repeat appearance from Dylan the bomb guy. What about you?

Noah Wyle Says Clooney's Coming Back to ER

George Clooney has been shooting down rumors of a return to ER for a few months now, but now he has former costar Noah Wyle to thank for bringing them up again.

In next week's issue of TV Guide, Wyle tells columnist Will Keck that "From what I heard, George said, 'absolutely,' schedule permitting," about returning to the show. That's totally opposite from everything we've heard from Clooney's camp till now, though the producers have said they hoped he would return.

The group of returning cast members keeps on growing: Eriq LaSalle (Peter Benton) will meet up with Wyle's John Carter for an episode that will air in the Spring: "As a result of [Carter’s] once near-fatal stabbing, which led to my subsequent drug addiction, I come back from Africa requiring additional medical treatment for my one remaining kidney. I’m embarrassed to get treatment at County General, so I go up to Northwestern to get my dialysis up there, and that’s where Dr. Benton spies my name on a patient list and comes to pay me a visit," Wyle told TV Guide. LaSalle is also directing an episode of the series.

Meanwhile, Anthony Edwards returns as Mark Greene in a flashback for the Nov. 13 episode, and Laura Innes, Paul McCrane, and Alex Kingston are also on the list of returning actors. Clooney and Julianna Margulies are among the only ex-County General folks who have yet to confirm a return, so tell me: Is it time they give in and agree to give us a glimpse into Doug and Carol's life?

Once Upon a Time Stars Dish About Their Hopes For Season Two

ABC's hit show Once Upon a Time has been renewed for a second season of fairy-tale fun, and no one is more excited than the cast. We caught up with some of the stars of the show at ABC's Upfronts party in New York City and chatted about who they'd be excited to see on the show, and what upcoming ABC shows they're adding to their DVRs.

BuzzSugar: Where do you hope your character goes next season?

Josh Dallas (Prince Charming / David): I just hope it gets more and more complex and intricate. I hope they give more of the backstory of Charming and who he is. We still don’t know his real name. We don’t know the whole story with him and his mother and his father. I think what’s great is that we’re going to be able to go back and look at all the characters that we’ve already established and dig deeper and deeper into them, and also have new people from the fairy-tale world.

Buzz: Which characters from the fairy-tale world would you like to see introduced?

Ginnifer Goodwin (Snow White / Mary Margaret): Oh, I’d love to meet Ariel, Rapunzel, Sleeping Beauty - her job might be a little boring though.

JD: I would love to see Jack and the Beanstalk. I would love to see Ariel, The Little Mermaid, there are so many!

Lana Parilla (The Queen / Regina): There have been rumors about a mermaid appearance so I’m sad that I won’t be playing it. Every little girl’s dream is to play a mermaid. I had all my cousins convinced I was a mermaid when I was little, I was a better swimmer and they couldn’t go as far as I could out in the ocean.

ABC Pilots: Get the Scoop on the Network's New Shows

Upfronts are in full swing, and it's time to get acquainted with the new series that'll be hitting the small screen in Fall 2012. ABC has revealed the shows it's ordered after announcing which shows it's canceling, and we've got the info on the pilots right here.

COMEDIES

Malibu Country: Reba McEntire plays a woman who moves with her kids from Nashville to Malibu to live with her mother (Lily Tomlin) after her husband cheats on her.
How to Live With Your Parents for the Rest of Your Life: Sarah Chalke stars as a recently divorced woman who has to move in with her eccentric parents, played by Brad Garrett and Elizabeth Perkins.
Family Tools: A man (Kyle Bornheimer) puts his life on hold to take over the family handyman business from his father, played by J.K. Simmons.
Neighbors: A family, which includes Jami Gertz, moves into a gated community and discovers that it's full of aliens disguised as humans.

DRAMAS

666 Park Ave.: Dave Annable and Rachael Taylor play a couple who notice supernatural occurrences in the New York City apartment building they've been hired to manage.
Last Resort: The crew of a nuclear submarine (played by the likes of Scott Speedman and Andre Braugher) has to escape to a NATO outpost after they ignore an order to fire nuclear missiles.
Zero Hour: Anthony Edwards stars as a longtime editor of a magazine that disproves conspiracies when he's pulled into one.
Red Widow: The widow (Radha Mitchell) of a murdered criminal has to take over his place to save her family.
Nashville: This family soap follows two country stars, played by Connie Britton and Hayden Panettiere, one who's at the top of her career and another whose star is just rising.
Mistresses: Alyssa Milano stars in this drama about the love lives of four women, which also costars Lost's Yunjin Kim.

Buzz Time Machine: Tom Cruise Sings in Top Gun

I Think I Love You's Allison Pearson on Robert Pattinson's Teen Idol Status and Having SJP Star in Her Movie

Allison Pearson is a well-known columnist in the UK thanks to her frequent musings on politics, celebrities, and royals, and she's found additional success in her side career as a novelist. Her first book, I Don't Know How She Does It, is being made into a movie starring Sarah Jessica Parker, and her second was just published in the US. I Think I Love You is Allison's fictional story of Petra, a die-hard Welsh fan of David Cassidy in the '60s. The book, in two parts, focuses on Petra's worship of the teen heartthrob from afar during her adolescent years, and later when her path finally crosses David's as an adult. The subject of idolization certainly is one that girls today can relate to thanks to Twilight and Bieber fever. Allison was in NYC recently on a press tour that included a stop by The Today Show, and I was able to chat with her about modern idols like Robert Pattinson, the life of a writer, meeting SJP, and being married to New Yorker film critic Anthony Lane. Here's more:

TrèsSugar: How did you know the story of a teenage David Cassidy fan was the story you needed to write about as a second novel?
Allison Pearson: I didn't want to write another book because I was completely exhausted having written the first one and I'd done a lot of publicity for it. But I was in Norway with a group of women from the publisher and some journalists, and they said, "You have to write another book." And I said, "No way!" And then they said, "Well what would you write about if you were ever to write it?" . . . All the women around the table were chat, chat, chatting about Donny Osmond, this person, that person, and there was one woman who didn't say anything. The Norway women said David Cassidy was huge in Norway, which I didn't know. We were all chatting, and the woman who stayed very silent, I was thinking she thought we were all ridiculous. Then she looked at me and said, "But he was mine." And I thought, OK! That's it! You have to write it.
TS: It's about such a specific time in girls' lives.
AP: You don't want the boy to get out of the poster on the bedroom wall and come down, really. It's about being in love with someone who will never hurt you because you'll never meet them . . . It's quite a brief period - about a year or so. My daughter, who's quite a huge Robert Pattinson fan, would still claim to be. You know in Twilight, you've got camp Jacob and camp Edward. One of her very good friends admitted that she quite liked Taylor Lautner - the treachery! It's like she's defected from East Germany or something!
TS: Sounds like she's a saboteur!
AP: There's also that funny thing where they don't know if they're in love with the actor or the character. So she was team Edward, but then there was Rob . . . My husband [Anthony Lane], who writes about film for The New Yorker, said, "But he's not a good actor!" She's like, "Daddy, how can you say that!?"

TS: Has writing this book taught you anything about the nature of fandom? Like that it's a real essential part of growing up?
AP: Yeah, I think it is. It's obviously an important transition phase, but I think it also has this quite terrifying side. To be Leonardo DiCaprio or David Cassidy, to have these people moving toward you like you're lunch, that must be pretty terrifying . . . some of the forces at work in those little girls are not that great. It's demonic really.
TS: What's your take on modern teen idols like Robert Pattinson and Justin Bieber?
AP: My law of teen idols is that all other teen idols apart from your own are ridiculous. You can't see what's so good at all. I think mine was perfect, so . . . I think it's very extreme. They're very androgynous. They're very nonthreatening. If you look at Justin Bieber or Zac Efron in a certain light - Zac Efron looks quite like a young Cassidy. A very sweet face, a certain kind of not masculine not threatening. They're all like that.
TS: The hair seems to be a consistent theme!
AP: Yes, more feminine. Cause Cassidy had beautiful hair.
TS: And moving on to the women they date . . . that must be hard for them!
AP: Everyone hates the girls who they go out with . . . so poor Susan Dey of The Partridge Family, who's absolutely lovely, but everyone just hated her . . . I was out for lunch years ago with my editor, who's a very senior female editor in Britain, and I mentioned Susan Dey, and she said, "Bitch." And I thought all these years later . . . Like Kristen Stewart, exactly. For ages, people will say, "He's not going out with her. He isn't!" Yeah right! Or they pretend. A lot of people are told to pretend.
TS: Switching gears, how did the whole movie project of I Don't Know How She Does It with Sarah Jessica Parker come together?
AP: We were very lucky that they got Aline Brosh-McKenna, who wrote The Devil Wears Prada, to do the screenplay. So that was great. She believes in it passionately - I mean she loves it, she loved the book. I think she really has played a huge role in getting it going . . . And Sarah Jessica Parker agreed to do it. I mean, there is a great deal of affection for her, isn't there? People really love her. And they got this terrific cast together, with Pierce Brosnan!
TS: How was it meeting SJP?
AP: She was lovely! She is a working mom herself, with the girls and the boy. She knows all about that. She's very gracious, and she said, "I know my life's very fortunate and I can work different hours around the children . . . I have huge admiration for working mothers."
TS: And now, being married to another writer, The New Yorker's Anthony Lane, is that helpful to the writing process?
AP: Oh yes, he is just the most fabulous writer. I'm in awe of his skills really. It can be great, but when you're both on deadline it can be not so great. So there's the bit that, yes, we understand the pressure, but there's a little bit of, "Who's writing around here anyway?"
