TV Tonight: America's Best Dance Crew

As one dance show ends, another begins. America's Best Dance Crew kicks off its fourth season tonight, on its new night and new 9 p.m. slot. This show's a very different beast from SYTYCD, but I love its energy, and checking out Lil Mama's nutty outfits is a definite benefit.

Last season, the show broadened its horizons by featuring cloggers for the first time, and it looks like we'll be seeing lots of different spins on dance this season, too. One crew fuses hip-hop and country music; another practices "Vogue" - which is, yes, the style in the Madonna video of the same name. Backstage at the So You Think You Can Dance finale, judge Shane Sparks talked up this season's "incredible" talent. They'd just recently taped the episode we'll see tonight, and he gave me a few names to look out for, picking out We Are Heroes and Massive Monkeys as crews to watch out for. TV Tonight: The America's Best Dance Crew Finale

So, who's it gonna be: Quest Crew or Beat Freaks? The third season of MTV's America's Best Dance Crew comes to a close tonight, and one thing's for sure: A deserving crew will be going home with the title.

Unlike last season, when my enthusiasm kind of waned after my favorite crew was eliminated, this season's ABDC has held my attention all the way through. It helped that I had a pre-set favorite in Quest Crew, which features Hok and Dominic from So You Think You Can Dance. But Beat Freaks, those awesome ladies who can throw down with the best of them, have been growing on me all season, and I think I'd love to see them take the title tonight.

Voting is closed, but if you want to see the performances that will determine the winner, you can check out the last episode online. In the meantime, I'm gearing up for tonight's finale, which will include performances from some favorite crews of the past - including some special teams put together just for tonight. Anyone else watching? And which crew do you think should win?

In a TV world increasingly filled with dance shows, there will always be a soft spot in my heart for MTV's America's Best Dance Crew. The show, which pits crews from around the country against each other, starts its third season on MTV tonight.

This time around, So You Think You Can Dance fans might want to take note, because a few of the show's most popular alumni will be back on TV. Hok and Dominic from season three are two members of Quest, one of the nine crews to be competing for this year's title. And longtime ABDC fans are also getting a treat in the first episode, when Rainen Paguio of the JabbaWockeeZ turns up as a guest judge.

TV Tonight: America's Best Dance Crew

Man, I would be so much more excited about tonight's showdown on America's Best Dance Crew if Fanny Pak were still in the competition. I admit I was somewhat of an erratic viewer of ABDC this Summer, but week in and week out, the thing that kept me coming back (or at least watching the old episodes I'd TiVo'd) was the Pak. And yet somehow, my favorite crew headed home last week, a combination of viewer votes and tough judging. Sigh.

Still, I'm trying to get myself pumped up for tonight's final battle between SoReal Cru and Super Cr3w (the winner will be revealed next week). On paper, this would seem like SoReal's competition to lose: They've never once appeared in the bottom two, even though the judges haven't always been on their side. But I like Super Cr3w, a group of b-boys who've shown their versatility. And I'm glad that being down to two crews - and getting rid of the insanely long pauses before eliminations - will mean a lot more dancing in this showdown.

TV Today: America's Best Dance Crew

With one Summer dance show - So You Think You Can Dance - having just selected its finalists earlier this week, let's turn our attention to another that's just getting its casting off the ground: MTV's America's Best Dance Crew.

The show is now in its second season, kicking off today with a casting special at 2 p.m. EDT and PDT. Maybe it's just because there are naturally so many more people performing in a dance crew, but this show seems to have a special kind of energy that none of the other dance shows can match.

The show will regularly air on Thursdays at 10, but today's special is a good chance to get a look at the crews that will be contending for the title.
