Sundance Snapshot: Bachelorette

There was more than one wedding-themed movie at Sundance this year, and Bachelorette was one of the most buzzed-about. The comedy features a ton of familiar faces, but serves up something a little different from what we've seen in the genre before.

Who's behind it? Kirsten Dunst, Adam Scott, Lizzy Caplan, Isla Fisher, and James Marsden lead the funny cast. First-time director Leslye Headland also penned the script.
What's it about? A group of high school BFFs reunite for the wedding of their friend Becky (Rebel Wilson). There's uptight, prissy Regan (Dunst), who begrudgingly accepts her role as maid of honor despite her bitterness that her less-attractive friend is getting married before her; cynical Gena (Caplan), who's determined to confront her high school ex (Scott) at the wedding; and ditsy Katie (Fisher), who is actually depressed beneath her bubbly exterior.
What did I think? Comparisons to Bridesmaids are inevitable, but the movies really are quite different. For starters, Bachelorette is darker, edgier, and has a lot less slapstick (think coke binges instead of food poisoning). Some of the more dramatic undercurrents go a bit too far, particularly Katie's downward spiral through the course of the night, which don't exactly jive with some of the cheesier, warm-and-fuzzy scenes. Though it's a bit uneven, the stellar cast makes the film entertaining, even if it's not worth a standing ovation.

Friends With Kids Trailer: Jon Hamm, Maya Rudolph, and More Take Friends With Benefits to New Heights

If you loved seeing Jon Hamm and Kristen Wiig as friends with benefits in Bridesmaids, then you'll definitely want to see them together again as newlyweds in the trailer for Friends With Kids. They're not the titular parents though; that would be Adam Scott and Jennifer Westfeldt (who also wrote and directed the film), as a pair of platonic friends who decide to have a baby together without being in a relationship (a "50 percent commitment," if you will.) Naturally, their circle of friends (which also includes Maya Rudolph and fellow Bridesmaids star Chris O'Dowd) don't exactly understand their progressive situation.

The preview didn't have me laughing out loud, but you'll never hear me complaining about seeing Adam Scott in a leading role, or revisiting so many of the amazing cast members from Bridesmaids. I'm even looking forward to seeing Megan Fox in something a little more toned-down, as a love interest for Adam Scott. The movie hits theaters in March, but get a peek at the trailer when you

Rashida, Elizabeth, and Zooey Toast Idiot Brother Paul Rudd at Their LA Premiere

Paul Rudd had some of Hollywood's funniest ladies on his arm last night at the LA premiere of Our Idiot Brother, which is out on Aug. 26. He posed with costars Rashida Jones, Elizabeth Banks, in Prada, and Moschino-clad Zooey Deschanel on the red carpet, which also hosted comedic stars like Busy Philipps, who was fresh off a day of zip-lining on the Cougar Town set, and Jack McBrayer. Adam Scott is another member of the movie's funny cast, and his Parks and Recreation costars like Amy Poehler and Aubrey Plaza came out to support both him and Rashida. Elizabeth was excited to see her fellow leading ladies, tweeting before she left home that she was going to "chest bump [Zooey] and then compliment her on her dress." Zooey, meanwhile, wrote that she was "so excited" for the event to start. Following the screening, the gang and their guests moved on to the afterparty at the Mondrian hotel. Paul recently teamed up with producer Harvey Weinstein for a Funny or Die spoof about their marketing plan, and the two men were able to catch up inside the hotel.

Amy Poehler dressed up in green last night to attend a panel for her show Parks and Recreation at LA's Paley Center For Media. Rashida is back in California after a quick press tour in NYC to chat about life at the fictional Pawnee Parks Department with her fellow EW cover stars like Aziz Ansari, Nick Offerman, and Aubrey Plaza, who just nabbed another comedy role opposite Andy Samberg and Bill Hader. The gang revealed that Rob Lowe isn't going anywhere just yet despite rumors of him replacing Charlie Sheen on Two and a Half Men, and Adam Scott, who joined the show at the same time, will likely stick around too. Amy had a few words to say about the burgeoning romance between Adam's character Ben and her Leslie. Amy commented, "They're very evenly matched. Leslie's like a single mother and Pawnee is her kid. And if Ben starts to like my kid. . . I'll have sex with him." Aziz, meanwhile, shared about his ideal guest star: Usher. He said, "I secretly want Usher to play my brother. . . [with his entrance having him] drop down from the ceiling."

Though they may not be on the A-list just yet, in 2010 they turned in charming, memorable performances on TV and in film.
