What to Rent: New DVDs This Week

Garry Marshall's latest ensemble comedy features a whole bushel of A-listers. Everyone from Ashton Kutcher to Robert De Niro makes an appearance in the flick that features stories of people experiencing New Year's Eve in New York City. The movie also stars Glee's Lea Michele as an aspiring singer, Michelle Pfeiffer as a woman on a mission to cross items off her bucket list, Zac Efron as the bike messenger who helps her, Katherine Heigl as Jon Bon Jovi's super angry ex-girlfriend, and many others. Though the film isn't the best in the genre, it's fun to see all the stars assembled and matched-up together. Extras include director's commentary, a gag reel, and deleted scenes.

Haywire

Real-life mixed martial arts fighter Gina Carano stars as Mallory Kane, a skilled black ops soldier on a mission for revenge after she is betrayed. Director Steven Soderbergh wrote the story around Carano after seeing her in a match, which means her butt-kicking skills are the focus of this action thriller. Also showcased? Antonio Banderas, amazing chase sequences, Channing Tatum, and lots and lots of hand-to-hand combat. Extras include a featuring looking at "the men of Haywire" and Gina Carano's training for the movie.

Abbie Cornish and James D'Arcy star in W.E., a historical romance directed and cowritten by Madonna. Cornish plays a modern woman obsessed with learning about the decades-old love affair between King Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson (Andrea Riseborough), the woman he gave up the throne to be with. The film won accolades for its style, even landing an Oscar nomination for achievement in costume design. DVD extras include a making-of piece featuring Madonna.

Alice Eve on the Dirty Business of Being Buried Alive in The Raven

Alice Eve takes on the role of Edgar Allen Poe's love interest, Emily Hamilton, in the chilling new thriller The Raven. Playing a damsel in distress came with quite a few challenges for the actress, from heavy dresses and corsets to being buried alive, and we sat down her at a recent press day to hear all about them. While chatting about her character's dramatic circumstances, Alice even mentioned a real fear of hers that was brought to the surface while filming. Running résumé: At her first Olympic appearance in Beijing in 2008, elite distance runner Kara Goucher competed in the 5,000-meter and 10,000-meter events for Team USA, taking ninth and 10th place, respectively. That same year, Goucher's record-breaking debut marathon earned her third place in the New York City race and the first spot on the podium for an American woman in more than a decade. After a year off from competition to celebrate the birth of her son (she ran up to and including the day he was born), Goucher is back in fighting shape and headed to London. There, she'll get a second shot at bronze, silver, glory, and gold.

Jewelry Brings Adriana Lima, Cate Blanchett, and Ewan McGregor Together in Geneva

Adriana Lima, Cate Blanchett, and Ewan McGregor were drawn to Geneva yesterday for the SIHH High Jewellery Fair. After browsing the watches and gems on display in the afternoon, the trio dressed up for the night's IWC Schaffhausen "Top Gun" gala. Adriana was decked out in Rene Caovilla shoes and a tight white dress that was met with approval from the guys - Ewan checked out Adriana, and was hilariously caught in the act! Adriana was happy to make the rounds with other stars like British actress Rosamund Pike, who will star opposite Tom Cruise in his upcoming One Shot. Also there was Brazilian author Paulo Coelho; Adriana tweeted about being particularly excited to meet him.

The Swiss trip comes just after an exciting week in LA for Ewan. He attended Sunday's Golden Globes, and was spotted making the afterparty rounds with wife Eve Mavrakis following the show. Ewan also attended last Wednesday's People's Choice Awards and did a great deal of press for his movie Haywire, which is out Friday. Ewan dished on the all-out fight scenes in the new Steven Soderbergh movie when we caught up with him at the junket one week ago.
