I like to tell job-seekers that launching a serious job search is a move that sets ripples in motion. Once you begin talking with employers about potential opportunities, they can grow and spread in unpredictable ways. And sometimes that ripple effect results in multiple job offers presented to you at the same time.

As flattering as it sounds to be recruited by more than one employer, it can also be a nerve-wracking experience. Nothing makes an applicant second-guess themselves more than a competing offer situation. Using a sample job search scenario, here are some helpful recommendations on how to keep the irons in the fire during the interview process with several companies without getting burned.

You’ve been chatting with Company A so long that you and the front-desk receptionist are now on a first name basis. You’ve got a strong feeling that a job offer is within your grasp, but you have yet to receive it. In the meantime, a headhunter calls to tell you about a must-hire-now position at Company B. You figure, “I’ll go on the interview - why not?” You’re pleasantly surprised to find that the new company loves your resume and professional experience and seems very interested - and you really like them, too.

Miramax Adds More Streaming Video Options to Facebook

Good news for those wishing to stream movies online: Hollywood movie studio Miramax joins the streaming media crowd with the launch of a Facebook app called Miramax eXperience. For $3, rent any of the available movies, like Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill (in addition to previously mentioned Doctor Who episodes) for commercial free viewing on Facebook, iPad, and GoogleTV.

Miramax's foray into Facebook video streaming is just one addition to the many streaming options consumers can choose from for their entertainment needs, including the following:

Netflix - With access via gaming consoles, TVs, iPhones, and Android smartphones in addition to computers, the popular classic doesn't seem to be going anywhere despite the competition and controversial new pricing structure.
Hulu Plus - The $8 monthly subscription fee for Hulu Plus allows access to the most current episodes of TV shows and has an even larger catalog of movies available than its free Hulu counterpart. Available via iOS, Android, select gaming consoles, Samsung TVs, and computer systems.
VUDU by Walmart - The service is accessible through the VUDU page on Walmart's website or from VUDU-enabled devices like certain HDTVs, Blu-ray players, or PlayStation 3. Customers do not sign up for a subscription, but rather pay per film viewing. Rentals begin at $3, with new releases starting at $4 and higher for HD-quality streams; many movies can be purchased for unlimited viewing for $15.
Blockbuster Total Access - Pricing models give customers the option to rent DVDs for home delivery with a subscription plan for $10 or $15, choose to rent DVD without subscriptions, or stream films online on demand.

The Vampire Diaries Creator Kevin Williamson Says It May Not Be OK For Elena to Love Both Damon and Stefan

The Vampire Diaries stars dished a lot on their characters and where season three will take them at their Comic-Con panel, but no one knows what's next for the supernatural series better than the creator himself, Kevin Williamson. The show's writer and producer sat down for a chat, and he revealed what's going to happen with the Damon/Elena/Stefan love triangle, why he decided to kill off Aunt Jenna, and more.

When we pick up, what will happen between Damon and Elena?
Kevin Williamson: Stefan has taken off with Klaus for a greater agenda: Klaus is up to something. And that's sort of the first chapter of our story and what that entails. It'll sort of be Damon and Elena's search for Stefan and how their relationship changes. At the end of season two, Katherine uttered that one line: "It's OK to love both of them," and we'll sort of watch that play out. And what does that mean? It meant one thing for Katherine; what's it going to be for Elena? Because you can love someone brotherly, you can love someone like a friend, and I just think [regarding] romantic love, it may not be OK to love both of them.

I think that's the journey. She's on a big journey, because yes, 100 percent yes, she's attracted to this man [Damon]. Yes, she's in love with Stefan; it's the epic love that's never going to change. So she's going to be torn. It's so tragic, these characters. And Damon is like this reluctant character who doesn't want to be the hero, it's not his role in life, he's not good at it. Elena's going to be there pushing him on to be the hero, but his nature is to kill people, so it's going to be interesting.

Water For Elephants' Donna Scott on Kissing Robert Pattinson's "Luscious Lips," Reese's Circus Skills, and Big Top Burlesque!

Donna Scott has a role millions of women would kill for in Water For Elephants. As bawdy burlesque dancer Barbara, she initiates Robert Pattinson's character into the circus - sexually! We chatted with the mother of two and wife of director Tony Scott this weekend, just before she headed out to the theater to see the movie for the first time. She talked about shooting under the big top with Robert and Reese Witherspoon, how Rob's family helps him handle his unprecedented fame, and filming her slightly awkward sexy scene with him! She also told us about training with a tassel-twirling expert for her risqué role, and what happened when a trio of zebras got loose on set and sent her, Reese, Rob, and Christoph Waltz ducking for cover.

Tell us a little bit about your character, Barbara.
She's a sideshow coochie dancer, a burlesque dancer, definitely targeted to the male audience going to the circus in the 1930s. There was one part [of the circus] that was for the family, and the other was the sideshow.

Was Rob nervous for your kissing scene?
Just a little bit. It’s really funny, because Rob is so...Rob. And even though he’s a huge heartthrob movie star, he’s so genuine. I figured since he was a megastar that he’d be like, 'Yeah, ok,' and I saw that because I’m older and lived a lot more life, I was comfortable being way more forward than he was. So, I definitely was aware that it was genuine, and that when I would move in to kiss him, he’d be like 'Whoa!' He was genuinely shy and it was all fantastic. How we prepared was just stepping into it and doing it. [He played] naïve and deflowered!

How does Rob rate as a leading man and kisser?
Rob, on a scale of one to ten, is a ten. He’s got luscious lips, and he’s so sweet, and he’s a tender person.

Reese told a story about Rob running scared from the zebras on set. Is that true?
After Reese had injured her ankle and when Rosie ran off, we were shooting this scene where it was just Reese, myself, Christoph, and Rob, and there were three zebras staked right near us. They’re very high strung, and they were going crazy and pulling up the stakes. Rob went running away and Reese grabbed Christoph and put him in front of her as a human body shield, and she was like; 'Oh my god, I don’t know what I just did!' And I was behind one of the support poles, and it happened so fast, it was really funny. But Rob was running away because he was supposed to be leaving to do something in the scene, so I think he didn’t want to break character. He felt so bad. He was like, 'Everyone is going to think I ran away because I was scared!'

read more Did you get to watch Reese perform with the elephant? Yes. It was amazing, when she was in the center ring we were all there watching, and I got to watch her as she went on top of Tai. What an amazing experience. Rob actually has to cross-dress for a particularly funny scene in the movie. How did he handle that? I think he was genuinely really shy about coming out of that trunk. It was pretty funny for him to come crawling out with all of us eating our breakfast. And no one had seen him in his outfit, because his double was in there the whole time they were setting up. So when he came out of the trunk all the response to him was genuine. I think his response was genuine, too. He was really embarrassed! Was there a lot of fandemonium near the set for Rob? Every day. It was insane to me, because where we were shooting was so remote. We were an hour and a half outside of LA in these huge orange groves, and we’d be shooting nights, and when I’d leave work 4:00, 5:00, 6:00 in the morning there would be unbelievable amount of women in a ditch across the shooting area waiting for Rob. They didn’t leave. I was blown away. I’ve never seen that level commitment from fans until I saw all that. How does he deal with that remarkable level of attention? It’s remarkable how he deals with it. He deals with it immensely well, and I also think he can’t believe what’s going on. I think he stays really grounded, and I think he views it from a point of view of, 'Is this really happening in my life?' And all of the craziness around him and Kristen, I think they navigate it immensely well in how he handles situations. He’s so close to his family and they’re so grounded, his mom and his dad and his sisters, so I think that helps him. And the maturity. He's very well educated and very well read, but it’s lovely that he can be that mature. How did you prepare for the role? I’m a level four pole dancer at Sheila Kelley’s S Factor, and then I took burlesque classes. The choreographer, Tracy Phillips, is a dancer, and I had a private tassel-twirling instructor that came to my house to give me tassel-twirling lessons. I took it very seriously!" Did you get to keep your burlesque gear and tassels from the set? No, I didn’t, and it didn’t even dawn on me to keep them! The thing is, Penny Star Jr., when she taught me to twirl the tassels, she said there’s a trick to how they need to be built so they swing properly with centrifugal force. Penny Star built two pairs for me and sent them to the costume designer. It's still a secret. What's next for you now that you're getting back into acting? It was so fun to do a movie like this, completely removed and on my own. My desire is to really get back into my career because I’ve been raising my children for 11 years. We have twin boys. It was the first time I’ve gone and done a red carpet when it was not affiliated with Tony and it was a different ball of wax.

Why Are There More Boys Than Girls in India?

With new census data, India is once again under scrutiny for its unbalanced sex ratio. There are 914 girls for every 1,000 boys (under age 6), the lowest girl to boy ratio since 1947. This is a startling statistic when you consider the global average is 1,050 girls for every 1,000 boys, and there are countries like Latvia with a shortage of men. One way India has tried to remedy this is with stricter enforcement on abortions of female fetuses - according to a 2006 study there are an estimated half a million female fetuses aborted each year - but it doesn't seem to have made a dent in the stats.

If you're wondering why there are more boys than girls in India, it comes down to some of these reasons:

Married Indian women are pressured to produce male heirs.
Men are viewed as the breadwinners and family leaders.
Girls require pricey dowries to be married (and most likely an extravagant wedding).
Cheap and easily accessible ultrasounds make finding out the sex of the fetus easy, leading to abortions of females.
Some wealthy Indians believe their status gives them the right to choose the sex of their children.

This cultural mindset, devaluing human life based on sex, has led to Indian girls being neglected and even killed. And with the help of modern technology, it's a scary path for the country. This may be a wake-up call for government officials to get more involved, but I really think unless there are some drastic changes within the culture, and possibly a rethinking of traditions like dowries, I don't know if a shift is possible.
