The majority of you are following this year's World Series, but even if you're not a baseball fanatic, you can still appreciate this week's special Hot Buzz Time Machine. In honor of America's favorite pastime, may I present this classic Tom Hanks scene from A League of Their Own. Hanks plays Jimmy Dugan, manager of the female baseball team the Rockford Peaches. When his player Evelyn starts sobbing on the film, Jimmy isn't exactly sympathetic. Watch the scene that spawned one of film's most memorable lines!

Get Motivated: Remembering Pitcher Dottie Collins

A League of Their Own always makes me teary-eyed. Not only is it a funny, bittersweet, and touching sports movie, but the true story behind it - of the short-lived All-American Girls Professional Baseball League - is incredibly inspirational. Even watching the fictional movie, I'm always moved by the idea of so many talented female athletes playing together and capturing the nation's imagination during a difficult time.

I got all teary again this weekend, when I read that AAGPBL pitcher Dottie Collins recently passed away at age 84. Not only was Collins an incredible ballplayer (in 1948, she even pitched until she was four months pregnant!) but she was also instrumental in creating the Baseball Hall of Fame's exhibit on the women's professional league. The Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y., had been considering an exhibition on women and baseball during the mid-1980s, but, as Ted Spencer, its chief curator, recalled in an interview, it had little material to display until Collins approached him. “When I connected with Dottie, the ball started to roll,” Spencer said. “If it wasn’t for her, I don’t know where it would have gone.” In 1987, Collins helped form an association of former players in the All-American league. She drew on her contacts to provide the Hall of Fame with memorabilia from the league, spurring creation of its Women in Baseball exhibit in 1988. Now an enlarged, permanent collection, the exhibit inspired the 1992 Hollywood movie A League of Their Own, a reprise of women’s pro baseball during World War II.

Cool, right? I guess we have Collins to thank both for pioneering women's professional sports and for making sure the AAGPBL wasn't lost to history. One of my favorite scenes in A League of Their Own is actually when all the women reunite at the Hall of Fame exhibit dedicated to them. Movie Night: The Material Girl Turns 50!

Madonna turning 50 is practically a holiday around here at Sugar HQ. I know one mega-fan here in the office who couldn't be more excited about the Queen of Pop's birthday. While many appreciate Madge's tremendous impact on popular music, I am equally appreciative of some of her movie roles. You'd think that Madonna's off-screen persona might overwhelm her characters onscreen, but that hasn't really been the case. I consider her a capable and engaging actress, and I've picked out a few of my favorite titles in her filmography. So, happy birthday Madonna - this Movie Night's for you!

Dick Tracy
I love that Netflix describes Madonna's character in this awesome '90s movie as the "seductive and sultry torch singer Breathless Mahoney." Dick Tracy was pretty much panned by critics, despite its star-studded cast. Regardless, the visual setting is vibrant, the costumes are neato, and to this day I still watch Madonna's performance of "Sooner or Later" and want to be her for Halloween.

A League of Their Own Even though Madonna was a big star by the time she did this movie, she humbly fit herself into the ensemble cast, and her character is a huge part of what makes this Penny Marshall classic so great. Her dynamic with Rosie O'Donnell's character is so perfectly rendered, the two of them endeared themselves to me when I saw this movie for the first time. Aw, how can you resist A League of Their Own? Desperately Seeking Susan How fun is it to re-experience the '80s Madonna in all her dark-roots glory? Sure, you can pop in some of her greatest hits, but there is nothing like seeing her on your TV screen. A bored housewife (Rosanna Arquette) becomes infatuated with Susan (Madonna) through the classified ads (remember those?) in this 1985 classic. And who wouldn't get obsessed? Susan is a free-spirited Holly Golightly-type but with a lot more lace. As the screwball comedic plot twists ensue, you're reminded why Madonna became one of the world's biggest stars. Honoring Some of Our Favorite Geeks For Black History Month

We may have Valentine's Day on the brain, but February also marks an important time of the year - Black History Month. In honor of Black History Month, let's take a look at some of our favorite geeks, both past and present. Everyone on this list has made vast contributions to furthering tech as we know it.

Dwayne McDuffie - The recently passed McDuffie wrote comic books for both Marvel and DC (including Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight, the Fantastic Four and the Justice League of America) before founding his own company, Milestone Media, which helped pioneer the use of multicultural characters as its heroes.
Mark Dean - Nerd alert! Without Dean, there may not have been a PC - he holds three of IBM's original nine PC patents, leading the teams that developed the ISA bus and the first one-gigahertz chip.
Mae Carol Jemison - It doesn't get much geekier than space travel; Jemison was the first black woman to travel in space.
Philip Emeagwali - We can all blame Emeagwali for our Internet addiction. He developed the fastest supercomputer software in the world. His IQ is too high to be measured by conventional standards, and he's won a Gordon Bell Prize, which is like the Nobel Prize for computer science.

George Clooney Gets Dirty, Dapper to Reveal His Best Pranks in LA Times Magazine

George Clooney was happy to try on both goofy and handsome looks for the Oscars issue of the LA Times Magazine with Viola Davis on the cover, which is out on Sunday. The accompanying article is focused on George the prankster and chronicles everything from friends who have been on the receiving end of his famous cons to what he's careful about when choosing his targets. George recently said he's planning a prank on Brad Pitt that may "end his career." George and Brad are up against each other in the best actor category at the Academy Awards, though when it comes to practical jokes Mr. Clooney is in a league of his own. George revealed his best one ever, which involves a cat litter box, and a time when he backed off something he'd been working on for years. Here are highlights:

Clooney on his pranks: "Humor only gets me in trouble when I forget that any joke I make will be heard by a lot of people and can be hurtful to someone if I’m not careful. I’m just screwing around...but you realize as you get home that it’s something that would hurt someone’s feelings, and maybe it’s not needed. You have to consider that a little more."
Jerry Weintraub on one prank from Ocean's Eleven days: "I had a gold silk shirt-a very expensive gold silk shirt-Clooney hated. Once at the Bellagio when we were doing Ocean’s, I was having drinks with the guys, and Clooney sneaked into my closet and stole the shirt. That September, for my birthday, I received a big box wrapped with ribbon-and in it was my gold shirt. On the back, Clooney had drawn a picture in black marker of a giant penis, and he’d had everyone who participated in a charity golf tournament for prostate cancer in Las Vegas sign it, too. There were 30 signatures-Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Don Cheadle, Wayne Gretzky..."
Julianna Margulies on an ER era prank with an unnamed man: "He asked George, 'Does my pasta smell funny?' and then pushed the plate into his face. Clooney took it all in stride, but he waited until the guy’s last day [on the production] and placed a license plate frame on his car that said, 'Honk if you like p--y.' The guy thought every-one was honking and waving goodbye to him. [George] was the master-and he had the patience of a Buddhist monk. He can create a joke that will take eight years [to pull off]."

Ask Savvy: How Do I Ask About Work Hours in an Interview?

This reader posted in our anonymous Savvy Confessions group wondering how to bring up work hours in a job interview. Do you have any advice for her?

I know that we shouldn't mention work hours in an interview, but it's really important to me as a new mom. I would ideally like regular 9 to 5 hours. Previously, I was in finance so I used to work from 9 to 8. I'm looking for a finance-related job, but I'm more concerned about the work hours rather than the pay. I think I have a pretty robust resume. I graduated from an ivy league university and worked at one of the big banks as an investment banker. I'm not looking to climb the corporate ladder, but I'm more dedicated toward spending time with my new daughter.

Do you think it's OK for me to ask about work hours in an interview as a new mom? Is there any way of bringing up the issue in a tasteful way?

Keep Getting Raises Long After the Dreaded 37

Apparently some things don’t improve with age.

According to a study by Payscale.com, women tend to top out their compensation at age 37, while men keep getting raises until age 45. Even more infuriating, while men’s salaries in the study rose to an average of $95,000, women’s plateaued at just $61,000.

The good-ish news? There is one swath of women who outearn men: Single women under 30 who live in large cities tend to make more than their male peers, but after this brief halcyon period (which doesn’t apply in rural areas or to women with children anyway), we tend to lose ground.

Experts point to two key causes: family obligations and the fact that women tend not to pursue fair compensation as aggressively as men. But it doesn’t have to be this way.
