This year's Emmys were among the lowest-rated in history, and ever since Sunday night, industry types have been trying to figure out what went wrong. Was it the five reality hosts? The low-rated nature of many of the winners and nominees?

At this year's Emmys, the shows that got many of the biggest awards aren't exactly winners in the ratings. Taken all together, Mad Men, Breaking Bad, In Treatment, and Damages would probably pull in only about five to six million viewers per week!
Maybe that will change now, though, as the awards bring the shows more recognition and exposure.

I'm still feeling the afterglow today from my time in the Emmy press room, where so many happy stars came to talk about their big awards. There are a bunch of tidbits I didn't get to share with you live, so to see what Bryan Cranston, Paul Giamatti, and Laura Linney had to say, read on!
- Bryan Cranston was maybe the happiest guy on Earth when he came back to the press room, clutching his Emmy in one hand and the envelope with his name on it in the other.

Some things at Sunday's Emmy Awards were pretty expected: 30 Rock making a big dent in the comedy categories, Mad Men winning for Outstanding Drama Series, etc. But there were also a few jaw-dropping moments along the way. What did you think was most surprising?

I was right where all the action was at the Emmys last night, and it was totally exciting to be in the press room, chatting with the winners and watching the ceremony. Yet, as fun as that experience was, I felt like this year they somehow sucked a lot of the fun and energy from the show. At times I almost (almost) found myself wishing for Ryan Seacrest's Tudors costume of yore.

Well, if we've learned anything from this year's list of Emmy award winners it's that the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences loves the smart sarcasm (30 Rock) and the historical dramas (John Adams and Mad Men). Those three series pretty much dominate the list of winners, though there's also clearly some love for Damages, In Treatment and the TV movie Recount.
Not a win in sight this year for either Grey's Anatomy or Ugly Betty.

The cast of Mad Men was completely delightful in the Emmy press room, where they were celebrating their Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series — the first basic cable series to win that award. Several cast members sipped champagne, and Jon Hamm and Elisabeth Moss snapped iPhone pictures of each other.
Series creator Matthew Weiner called the win gratifying for a show that "resonates with the human condition," and he said it was something of a victory for every writer who's ever toiled away on a TV script at a library or a Starbucks.
