Stars Show Their Independent Spirit

Before the Oscars rushed in, Hollywood celebrated at the Independent Spirit Awards on Saturday night. Angelina's baby bump was the talk of the town, but Cate Blanchett was the only mommy-to-be to take home a trophy. Ellen Page also scored one of the three awards that went to Juno, and you can check out the full list of winners here. Most of you were loving Kate Beckinsale's red carpet look, but she looked pretty stone-faced inside the show, even between manjoyable Josh and Len. Spirit Awards 2008: The Ceremony

Hey, this awards ceremony looks almost as fun as the Brits! It's good to see that Rainn Wilson didn't put a serious host-face on for the Independent Spirit Awards ceremony, as you can see from these pics... Allison Janney also brought the funny, arriving on stage with dollars hanging out of her cleavage, and Javier Bardem shared a passionate embrace onstage with Julian Schnabel. Cate Blanchett dedicated her award to Heath Ledger, simply saying "This is for him."

The Independently Spirited Gather in Pre-Oscar Excitement

While the weekend's big event is just hours away, last night's Independent Spirit Awards brought out some big names and one very talked-about baby bump. You know, ICYMI, Angelina Jolie showed off that she is indeed pregnant on the arm of Brad Pitt/Robert Redford (just saying). Sienna looked very happy to be up for best leading actress, but lost to Ellen Page whose Juno also won best feature film. Check out all the winners here. Eva Mendes is apparently out of rehab and red carpet ready while, swoon, Keri and Shane are so my new favorite celebrity couple. Javier and Ellen were unintentional red carpet twinsies - who wore it better? We'll see if tonight's a repeat performance for the two Oscar nominees. A whole host of gorgeous and quirky types were out for the Independent Spirit Awards in California yesterday. At the reception for nominees a selection of the attendees had a sneak preview of Rainn Wilson's hosting skills, but this was the real deal. Brad showed up with a blooming Angelina, Ellen Page and Javier Bardem wore very similar outfits (and managed to look equally cute - who wore it better?) and all the stars and makers of this year's Indie favourites were out in force from Diablo Cody and Sienna Miller to Philip Seymour Hoffman and Julian Schnabel.

Angelina Is So Pregnant!

No more ambiguous and flowy dresses for Angelina Jolie! She may not have sold her pregnancy announcement and given the money to charity in the end, but I'm going to go ahead and say this is a confirmation. Angelina showed off that baby bump at the Independent Spirit Awards today in Santa Monica. Lots more photos from the red carpet and show coming soon, but until then - is it still too early to say congrats to the Jolie-Pitt family?

Spirit Nominees Assemble In Santa Monica

Kelly Kapowski! What a blast from the past. Actress Tiffani Thiessen was at the Spirit Award Nominees reception in Santa Monica yesterday, hosted by The Office's Rainn Wilson (aka oddball Dwight). Also in attendance were nominated directors Jason Reitman (Juno) and Tamara Jenkins (The Savages), Marisa Tomei and Patricia Clarkson. I don't know about you, but Rainn cracks me up onscreen, and I reckon he has the makings of a great host - he'll present the ceremony tomorrow.

Zach & Lisa Announce Independent Spirit Award Noms

Unlikely pair Lisa Kudrow and Zach Braff were up bright and early in LA this morning to announce the nominees for the 2008 Independent Spirit Awards. Award season is so underway. The impossibly adorable looking Juno and The Diving Bell and the Butterfly led the way with four nominations each, followed by I'm Not There with three. The best actress category is particularly exciting with both Angelina Jolie and Sienna Miller snagging nods. Check out the full list of nominees here. As for Lisa and Zach, it looks like they may have struck up a friendship while out protesting on behalf of the striking writers earlier this month.
