Oh, the Cuteness: Feist on Sesame Street

"One two three four, monsters walking across the floor. I love counting, counting to the number four. . . Whoaaaa-uh-oh, we're counting to four!" I honestly don't believe it gets any cuter than those lyrics that Feist changed ever so slightly from her big hit song "1 2 3 4" for her appearance on Sesame Street.

It's such a natural fit seeing the talented singer strolling along that famous childhood street with muppets bouncing along with her, equally excited about counting to four. And so, Sesame Street just gets that much more awesome.

This video is pure joy. It also reminded me that counting actually is fun, and that there was a time when figuring out math problems using my fingers didn't make me look like an idiot.

How Do You Feel About Songs in Commercials?

Feist's "1 2 3 4" has been one of my favorites from The Reminder since the album was first released, but now I'm growing a little tired of it. Why? Oh, that iPod Nano commercial I see every time I turn on the television. Commercials have made previous favorites a little annoying too - it was an AT&T commercial that finally put me over the edge on Peter Bjorn & John's "Young Folks."

But not everyone feels the way I do. Last week, Yahoo reported that searches on the song and on Feist had jumped hugely since the commercial started to air and people wanted to know more about the mesmerizing song. So I'm wondering: How do you feel about songs in commercials? Do you ever discover new music that way, or do the constant airings of the tunes just grate on your nerves?

Monday's "Late Show with David Letterman" turned into a veritable convention of indie rockers when the musical guests took the stage. Feist dropped by the show to perform "1 2 3 4" from The Reminder, and she brought with her a full backing chorus - including AC Newman of The New Pornographers and members of Grizzly Bear, Broken Social Scene, The National and Mates of State.

As if it wasn't enough just to see them all sharing the stage, they also dressed in matching white outfits with sparkly armbands. Can you even handle the cuteness? To watch the performance, read more

Song of the Day: Feist, "1,2,3,4"

Ever since Feist released her debut album, Let It Die, in 2004, I've had her pegged as the next crossover indie-rock darling. And if a profile in Sunday's New York Times is an indication, my prediction may finally be coming true.

This song "1,2,3,4" - off Feist's new album, The Reminder, due May 1 - is by far the catchiest, most mainstream offering I've heard from the Canadian singer. I love the lush, full sound, and I think Feist has matured quite a bit since her last effort. Listen and tell me what you think when you read more
