The Sundance Movies We Can't Wait to See

The Sundance Film Festival kicks off this week, and we're headed to Park City, UT, to check out the festival's newest crop of indie movies. This year's slate is packed with plenty of star power, including Kristen Stewart as a soldier and Ryan Reynolds as a guy who can talk to his pets. Here's a list of the movies we're most excited to see at Sundance this year.

Listen Up Philip

Listen Up Philip

Remember when Jason Schwartzman played a struggling novelist in NYC on Bored to Death? Well, in this movie, he's playing another writer in New York, facing his share of personal problems. No word yet on whether or not this character moonlights as a detective.

They Came Together

They Came Together

Seeing Amy Poehler and Paul Rudd together is nothing new, especially if you're a fan of Parks and Recreation or Wet Hot American Summer, but I'm still looking forward to seeing them pair up in this new comedy — especially since it comes from Wet Hot mastermind David Wain, and it's a spoof on romantic comedies.

The Voices

The Voices

The Voices definitely sounds out there — Ryan Reynolds plays a factory worker who sets off on an adventure with his talking pets — but I'm willing to check out any project that has Reynolds breaking away from his standard sarcastic characters.

Camp X-Ray

Camp X-Ray

Kristen Stewart is still in the midst of carving out her career post-Twilight, and her role in Camp X-Ray — as a soldier who is stationed at Guantanamo Bay — should be an interesting departure for her.

Happy Christmas

Happy Christmas

I'm not usually one for watching holiday movies outside of December, but I'll make an exception when the cast includes Lena Dunham, Anna Kendrick, and a cute baby.

Laggies

Laggies

Director Lynn Shelton has brought us Sundance favorites like Your Sister's Sister and Touchy Feely, and this year she's debuting her newest, Laggies. Keira Knightley plays a woman who just won't grow up (even after her boyfriend proposes) — which is something a lot of us can relate to.

Life After Beth

Life After Beth

Dane DeHaan has impressed with his roles in The Place Beyond the Pines and Chronicle, but we've yet to see him tackle comedy. That's about to change with Life After Beth, which costars Aubrey Plaza as his girlfriend-turned-zombie. Hey, it worked for Warm Bodies.

Infinitely Polar Bear

Infinitely Polar Bear

It wouldn't be Sundance without at least one tearjerker about a dysfunctional family, and Infinitely Polar Bear fits that bill. Mark Ruffalo plays a manic-depressive dad who tries to reconnect with his wife (Zoe Saldana) and two daughters.

Wish I Was Here

Wish I Was Here

Zach Braff's latest directorial project already has a lot of buzz behind it, thanks to the Kickstarter campaign that got it going, so I'm looking forward to seeing if it was worth the crowdsourcing.
