Les Misérables

Director Tom Hooper adapted the legendary musical into this Oscar-nominated big-screen version, starring Hugh Jackman as Jean Valjean, a former prisoner who flees lifelong nemesis Javert (Russell Crowe) and finds redemption in 17th-century France. The movie is almost entirely sung, which doesn't always work, but it's a triumph when it does. Case in point: Anne Hathaway's performance of "I Dreamed a Dream" as Fantine, the role that won her an Oscar. A commentary track and a few behind-the-scenes featurettes are included on the DVD.

Zero Dark Thirty

Jessica Chastain stars in this true-life thriller as Maya, the woman who leads a decade-long hunt for Osama bin Laden. Kathryn Bigelow directed the harrowing drama, which also stars Chris Pratt and Joel Edgerton as members of the SEAL Team 6 who found bin Laden. Chastain delivers a great performance (which earned her an Oscar nomination), but the controversial torture scenes can be tough to watch. DVD extras include a few making-of featurettes.

This Is 40: Comedy at Its Most Painful

This Is 40, Judd Apatow's latest directorial effort, warns audiences about the dangers of blinking, meaning if you close your eyes you risk waking up decades later, wondering how you got to be so darn old.

This Is 40, Judd Apatow's latest directorial effort, warns audiences about the dangers of blinking, meaning if you close your eyes you risk waking up decades later, wondering how you got to be so darn old. In a more literal sense, I did blink while watching the film. In fact, I full-on closed my eyes at the sight of Paul Rudd spread eagle with nothing but a strategically place hand mirror covering his man parts; I cringed while Pete (Rudd) and his wife, Debbie (Leslie Mann), screamed at each other for the umpteenth time; I yawned, I scoffed, but as with most of Apatow's projects, I also laughed and related to the conflicted characters.

This movie is billed as the "sort-of sequel" to Knocked Up, but it's more like a spin-off, centering completely on Pete and Debbie's clan five years later. The kids (played by Apatow and Mann's real-life children, Maude and Iris Apatow), are growing up and acting out — if watching unhealthy amounts of Lost qualifies as acting out — and the whole family is hitting a palpable rough patch. The film's unflinching honesty about shifting family dynamics is one of its strengths, but it's also undoubtedly uncomfortable to watch as resentment curdles and touches every aspect of the characters' lives. To find out what else I thought, just keep reading.

Judd Apatow Jokes: Directing Wife to Kiss Paul Rudd Was "Disgusting"

It was a family affair on the set of director Judd Apatow's new movie, This Is 40, as his two daughters and wife, Leslie Mann, star in the film, out today.

It was a family affair on the set of director Judd Apatow's new movie, This Is 40, as his two daughters and wife, Leslie Mann, star in the film, out today. But actor Paul Rudd took Judd's place as the husband and dad in the movie, which put Judd in a potentially awkward situation: directing his wife to kiss another man. Chelsea Handler got Judd to discuss the subject with humor last night on Chelsea Lately, along with how it didn't take much to get his daughters to actually have an argument on camera. Watch now.

Judd Apatow on Why He Didn't Mind Directing His Wife's Love Scenes

Judd Apatow mined the ups and downs of his own marriage to his wife — and leading lady — Leslie Mann for This Is 40, which hits theaters on Friday. However, when we sat down with Judd at a recent press day for the movie, he told us Leslie was even more willing to put the personal details of their lives on the big screen than he was. Judd also weighed in on the difficulty of orchestrating his wife's love scenes opposite Paul Rudd. See what he said about their on-set dynamic, as well as his daughters Iris and Maude's acting talents, in our interview.

Exclusive: Behind the Scenes With This Is 40's Funniest Comedic Tot

For Judd Apatow, going to work can be a family affair.

For Judd Apatow, going to work can be a family affair. Not only does his wife, Leslie Mann, star along with Paul Rudd in This Is 40 (the upcoming spin-off of Knocked Up), their two daughters, Maude, 14, and Iris, 10, reprise their roles as Debbie and Pete's daughters throughout the film. While the girls' scenes are filled with typical sisterly arguing and teenage indifference toward their parents, outtakes prove that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree when it comes to comedy. Iris can riff with the best of them, making for some funny behind-the-scenes moments. Check out our exclusive clip of some on-set tomfoolery that didn't quite make it into the flick.

Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann reprise their Knocked Up roles as Pete and Debbie in the upcoming This Is 40.

Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann reprise their Knocked Up roles as Pete and Debbie in the upcoming This Is 40. We recently caught up with the costars to ask them about revisiting the onscreen couple and what they mined from their own marriages as they developed the script with Leslie's husband, Judd Apatow. Of course, we also had to ask them about a particularly funny scene their characters share while under the influence. Check out our chat before This Is 40 arrives in theaters beginning Dec. 21.

Megan Fox, Paul Rudd, and the Apatow-Mann Clan Debut This Is 40

Paul Rudd, Leslie Mann, and Megan Fox celebrated the premiere of their new movie, This Is 40, in LA last night.

Paul Rudd, Leslie Mann, and Megan Fox celebrated the premiere of their new movie, This Is 40, in LA last night. Megan, wearing Roland Mouret, and Paul were joined by their costar Leslie, in a Vionnet dress, and her family. Leslie's husband, Judd Apatow, directed the film, and their two daughters, Maude Apatow and Iris Apatow, play Leslie and Paul's children in the movie, which is loosely billed as a sequel to 2007's Knocked Up. Jason Segel, who is also in the film, attended the premiere but without girlfriend Michelle Williams by his side. Lena Dunham dropped by the event to show some support for Judd, an executive producer on her show, Girls. Lena was spotted goofing around with friend Aubrey Plaza on the red carpet.

This has been a busy few months for Megan since she gave birth to her first child, Noah, on Sept. 27. Megan said that becoming a mom has changed her attitude towards her work. According to Megan, "It changes your perspective about being overly sexual in a film when you have a baby."

Megan Fox Shows Off Her Postbaby Physique at a Special Screening

Megan Fox attended a screening of This Is 40 at the Writers' Guild Theater in Beverly Hills last night.

Megan Fox attended a screening of This Is 40 at the Writers' Guild Theater in Beverly Hills last night. Sporting a pair of Christian Louboutins, a midnight-blue Lisa Ho blazer, and skinny jeans, Megan Fox showed off her fit postbaby body. Back in September, Megan gave birth to her first son, Noah, but she and her husband, Brian Austin Green, managed to keep it quiet until mid-October. Brian credited Reese Witherspoon with helping them keep the news a secret. During a chat with Ryan Seacrest earlier this month, Brian said Reese attracted most of the media attention when she gave birth to son Tennessee Toth around the same time.

Megan put her parenting duties on hold to spend the night out with her This Is 40 castmates at yesterday's screening. The Knocked Up spin-off brings back Leslie Mann, Paul Rudd, and Jason Segel. Megan joins the cast as Leslie's character's young, hot employee in the film, which hits theaters Dec. 21.
