Date Night

In this action romantic comedy, Tina Fey and Steve Carell play a bored married couple who get caught in a mix-up and end up on the run from a couple of thugs in New York City. The two stars are as perfect together as you'd think, and I was laughing out loud at their antics more often than not. The action sequences get a little tiresome, but the humor is worth the trip with Carell and Fey, not to mention the hilarious cameos from Mark Wahlberg and James Franco. DVD extras include a blooper reel, three dating PSAs from Carell and Fey, and director featurettes with Shawn Levy.

The Joneses

David Duchovny and Demi Moore star as Steve and Kate Jones, a couple whose house, clothes, and kids are as good-looking as they are. Here's the catch: they're actually salespeople paid to create the illusion of a perfect life and plug products to their envious friends and neighbors. Things start to get messy when Steve develops feelings for Kate and his morals get in the way of his work life. I thought the film was very entertaining, thanks to Duchovny's endearing performance. Though the social commentary gets to be a bit much, it makes for the perfect rental. DVD extras include deleted scenes.

The Joneses: Duchovny Has Me Sold

Let's face the facts: David Duchovny is irresistible.

Let's face the facts: David Duchovny is irresistible. From The X-Files to Californication, the man has charisma to spare, which is why he seamlessly steps into the shoes of salesman Steve in The Joneses. But Steve is not your smarmy, run-of-the-mill clerk wearing a cheesy smile at a car dealership — at least not anymore.

Along with his "wife," Kate (Demi Moore), and teenage "kids," Jenn (Amber Heard) and Mick (Ben Hollingsworth), Steve poses as the patriarch whom all yuppies envy. He makes a living convincing his peers to buy the material objects that put his life together so perfectly — from his hot Audi to his golf clubs to his lawn mower. The same goes for the rest of the family — each member has been handpicked, armed with loads of designer goods, and trained to sell, sell, sell.

Though the foursome is annoyingly flawless on the surface, there's a lot more than meets the eye. Each member comes equipped with his/her own emotional baggage, causing the facade to slowly fall apart. To see what I mean, just read more

I'm Asking: Who's Your Mr. and Mrs. Jones?

These days we hear more about Keeping Up With the Kardashians than keeping up with the Joneses, but the idea of coveting thy neighbor's life never completely fades.

These days we hear more about Keeping Up With the Kardashians than keeping up with the Joneses, but the idea of coveting thy neighbor's life never completely fades.

In The Joneses, which is released today, we get a cheeky commentary about our culture's consumer habits. I've yet to see the movie, but the preview got me thinking about my life, career, and finance models. While I've had the same nuclear group of friends for more than a decade, our lives have diverged drastically in the last decade as our careers and relationships have grown and changed. I look up to them, but because I know the details of lives, I appreciate them instead of envying them. If I'm being honest, I get green with envy when I compare my life to my cousin's because we were born weeks apart. Whose life do you look up to or lust after?

Demi Has Ashton, Rumer, and Maybe Babies to Keep Up With

Demi Moore picked a pink Marchesa gown to join Ashton Kutcher and daughter Rumer at the LA premiere of her new movie The Joneses last night. Rumer stayed close to her boyfriend Micah Alberti throughout the evening, while Demi stopped to pose with her costar David Duchovny. Ashton, of course, kept his many fans updated throughout the evening by Twittering about Rumer and broadcasting to Ustream. In the run-up to her movie's release, Demi has been doing her fair share of press. One interview in particular has caused controversy, after she admitted to Elle UK that she has had plastic surgery and also would consider having babies with Ashton.

Ashton is no stranger to Ustream, and I like the app because it allows you to create your own live broadcast on the fly — like I did during my Black Eyed Peas backstage tour. If you have an iPhone and want to create your own broadcasts on the go, you can download the Ustream Live Broadcaster app for free on iTunes and get to it! Another cool feature — you can set up your Ustream account to tweet whenever you go live so your followers can get in on the action and see their @reply tweets to you right on the recorder screen.

Movie Preview: Demi Moore, David Duchovny in The Joneses

You know the old belief about the Joneses: everyone is trying to keep up with them.

You know the old belief about the Joneses: everyone is trying to keep up with them. In the movie The Joneses, that's exactly what's going on around this picture perfect family, led by gorgeous parents Kate and Steve (Demi Moore and David Duchovny). Their kids, played by Amber Heard and Ben Hollingsworth, are just as good-looking and popular. Aren't they just too perfect?

The facade is just that, and the trailer quickly reveals that the Joneses are not really a family — they've been planted in the community to sell their lifestyle. I do mean sell: their bodies and homes are full of product placement (sneakers, jewelry, electronics, clothing, cosmetics) designed to be pushed on their friends and neighbors who are jealous of their seeming refinement. Like anything too shiny, though, things start to fall apart as Steve begins to question his job and have real feelings for Kate. The premise is definitely intriguing, and the preview makes it seem like a smart commentary on our consumer culture. Not to mention that I can't help finding Duchovny irresistible after all these years, and I'd totally buy him falling for Demi Moore (it's a nice change from the PYTs he seduces on Californication).
