Wall Street Money Never Sleeps

No surprises here: moviegoers headed to theaters this weekend to see firsthand whether or not The Social Network is all its cracked up to be. The film took the top spot at the box office, pulling in $23 million in its opening weekend. Behind it was Legend of the Guardians, which actually climbed one spot since last week with $10.8 million, knocking previous champ Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps down to third with $10.1 million.

Right on Wall Street's heels with $10 million was The Town, while Easy A settled into fifth place with $7 million.

Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps lived up to its title at the box office this weekend, taking first place with $19 million. Another newcomer took second place, as animated flick Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole finished with $16.3 million. It narrowly edged out last week's champ, The Town, which took in $16 million in its sophomore weekend.

Emma Stone's Easy A fell to fourth with $10.7 million, while Kristen Bell's You Again debuted in fifth with $8.3 million. Now, the real question is how things will shake up next week with the release of the much buzzed about The Social Network.

As the economy begins to collapse, Gekko collides with Jacob Moore (Shia LaBeouf), an eager Wall Street wunderkind who is engaged to Gekko's estranged daughter Winnie (Carey Mulligan). Gekko takes notice of Jacob's naivete, and uses it to his advantage as a means to repair his relationship with Winnie and get himself back on top. Shia LaBeouf and Carey Mulligan both suited up this morning to ring the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange with their Money Never Sleeps costar Josh Brolin. Carey's been busy doing double promotional duty, after surprising fans last week at screenings of her other new movie Never Let Me Go. Shia, meanwhile, is in the Big Apple during another break from shooting Transformers 3. Carey and Shia's press responsibilities give the real-life couple a chance to spend time together. They spoke recently about the fun of working together, but we shouldn't get our hopes up about seeing PDA on the red carpet at tonight's premiere.
