Unstoppable

An expert engineer (Denzel Washington) and a rookie conductor (Chris Pine) band together to stop a runaway train carrying dangerous explosive materials in this Oscar-nominated action flick. Even though the plot is simplistic, the non-stop pace will keep you hooked from beginning to end. The extras on the DVD include a director's commentary track and a featurette on the script development.

You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger

Josh Brolin stars as Roy, a writer whose career and marriage to his wife Sally (Naomi Watts) have both gone downhill. To combat his boredom, he stares out the window at his gorgeous neighbor (Freida Pinto), while Sally forms a crush her boss (Antonio Banderas). Even though it's not Woody Allen's best, the film still has a few charming moments.

Box Office: The Dawn Treader Sails Into First Place

The Chronicles of Narnia may not have the same box office power as the Harry Potter franchise, but an unimpressive $24.5 million was still enough for The Voyage of the Dawn Treader to take the crown.

The Chronicles of Narnia may not have the same box office power as the Harry Potter franchise, but an unimpressive $24.5 million was still enough for The Voyage of the Dawn Treader to take the crown. Bad reviews for The Tourist put a damper on the power of Jolie and Depp, as their film debuted in second with $17 million. Tangled slid to third place with $14.6 million, pushing Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part I down to fourth with $8.5 million. Fifth place went to Unstoppable with $3.7 million.

Black Swan continued to pick up momentum in limited release, taking in $3.3 million across only 90 screens for sixth place. The film is expected to pick up even more steam when it goes wide on Dec. 22.

Box Office: Tangled Brushes Past Harry Potter

Rapunzel's hair really must be magical: Disney's Tangled came in first at the box office this weekend with $21.5 million, toppling the two-week champ, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part I.

Rapunzel's hair really must be magical: Disney's Tangled came in first at the box office this weekend with $21.5 million, toppling the two-week champ, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part I. It was a close battle last week between the two films, but Tangled was the victor this week, beating Harry Potter's $16.7 million haul.

In third place, we have a tie: Christina Aguilera's musical Burlesque rivaled the Denzel Washington action flick Unstoppable, which each pulled in $6.1 million. And rounding out the top five is the pharmaceutical-fueled romantic comedy Love and Other Drugs, which made $5.7 million.

Box Office: Harry Potter Is Deathly Competition

We all saw this one coming, but Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part I tore up the box office in its debut weekend, taking in a staggering $125.1 million.

We all saw this one coming, but Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part I tore up the box office in its debut weekend, taking in a staggering $125.1 million. Those numbers earned the film the sixth-highest opening weekend of all time, and was the best debut for the franchise to date. Last week's champ, Megamind, settled for a distant second place with $16.1 million.

Unstoppable took third with $13.1 million, followed by Due Date with $9.1 million. Rounding out the top five was newbie The Next Three Days, which clocked in at $6.7 million. With a holiday weekend on the horizon, I'm expecting Potter to add to its impressive tally — what will you be seeing over the Thanksgiving break?

Box Office: Megamind Stops Unstoppable

Despite some competition from a bunch of new releases, kiddie flick Megamind retained the top slot at the box office, taking in $30 million across its sophomore weekend.

Despite some competition from a bunch of new releases, kiddie flick Megamind retained the top slot at the box office, taking in $30 million across its sophomore weekend. Second place went to newbie Unstoppable, which garnered $23.5 million.

Due Date slipped to third with $15.5 million, while new movies Skyline and Morning Glory rounded out the top five with $11.6 million and $9.6 million respectively. Don't expect Megamind to get too comfortable at the top though — Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part I comes storming in this weekend.

Unstoppable: Entertainment at High Speeds

Full disclosure: I went into Unstoppable expecting to be bored.

Full disclosure: I went into Unstoppable expecting to be bored. How could a film about a train possibly keep me entertained for more than twenty minutes? But the movie is like watching a car chase on TV (and I mean that in the best possible way). There's not a ton of plot (it really is just a runaway train), and it doesn't dwell on character development — but you'll still get sucked into the nonstop action.

Chris Pine stars as Will, a railroad newbie assigned to work under the watch of veteran engineer Frank (Denzel Washington). It's their first day on the job together, and a challenging one at that. The fiasco begins when two dim-witted railroad employees working at a local outpost accidentally let one of the cargo-carrying locomotives get away from them. It's a classic scenario of whatever can go wrong, will go wrong, but that's not the case with the movie itself. In fact, the movie gets a lot right. To find out what I mean, read more
