Ugly Betty Rundown: Episode 23, "Curveball," and Episode 24, "The Fall Issue"

Well, friends, this week concludes Ugly Betty's run on Thursday nights.

Well, friends, this week concludes Ugly Betty's run on Thursday nights. The show brought out loads of stars for its third season finale, but then a lot of things happened and then unhappened and then rehappened again, and I'm wondering this morning if we actually needed two whole hours of that.

Betty has the job! Betty doesn't have the job. Betty's promoted! Betty isn't promoted. Betty's in love! Betty isn't in love. Betty's sort of in love? And then there's the ever-present threat of Molly dying hanging over everything, and even though it's predictable and slightly manipulative, I still cried. Let's get to chatting — just read more

Ugly Betty Rundown: Episode 22, "In the Stars"

This week's episode of Ugly Betty is packed with proposals and marriage talk and even an honest-to-goodness wedding.

This week's episode of Ugly Betty is packed with proposals and marriage talk and even an honest-to-goodness wedding. But who's getting married? It's pretty easy to figure out — but fun to watch nonetheless.

I've often wondered how someone as ambitious as Betty could remain an assistant at Mode for so long. The crappy economy offers the writers a fairly reasonable way to keep her stagnated in her career a little while longer, and this episode fleshes that out a bit. Finally, Matt and Betty have yet another fight, making me think this romance is clearly destined for failure. Let's chat about it, just read more

Ugly Betty Rundown: Episode 21, "The Born Identity"

I wasn't prepared for this week's emotional ending to Ugly Betty.

I wasn't prepared for this week's emotional ending to Ugly Betty. We knew that Ashley Jensen, who plays Christina, would be moving on, but it was still sad to watch Betty say goodbye to her friend. First, though, the show had to remind us that Christina and Betty are BFFs, especially since Betty has been spending so much time with her new boyfriend and Amanda.

Betty is there for Christina after Wilhelmina bans her from seeing the baby, but their friendship is pushed to the limit with a certain twist that brings up the age-old dilemma: do you stick by your friend when she's accidentally dragged you into a high-profile illegal affair? Ugly Betty Rundown: Episode 20, "Rabbit Test"

This week's Ugly Betty is a little bit late to the Easter party, but no matter.

This week's Ugly Betty is a little bit late to the Easter party, but no matter. It's still lots of fun — what with Daniel in a neon pink bunny suit and all. Financially speaking, things at Mode are looking quite grim, and Daniel is forced to put his dignity aside to save the company.

Whose evil idea is it to make Daniel hop for his supper (supper, in this case, being millions of dollars invested into Meade family magazines)? Let's just say Betty's boyfriend's mother is just the tip of the iceberg in that messed-up rich family. Meanwhile, it's brought to Wilhelmina's attention that her child looks nothing like her. Dun-dun-dun!

Can Daniel save the company? Is Willi really the mother of one of the heirs to the Meade fortune? Let's chat about the return of Betty — just read more

Ugly Betty Rundown: Episode 19, "The Sex Issue"

The promo for this week's episode of Ugly Betty made it look like Betty's wealthy Prince Charming is potentially a cheating player.

The promo for this week's episode of Ugly Betty made it look like Betty's wealthy Prince Charming is potentially a cheating player. This wouldn't be too hard to believe because of all the weird lying Matt does.

Well, it turns out that he is, in fact, hiding something from her that's a little more uncomfortable than it is scandalous. Also, Marc and Amanda give Betty an amazingly weird and fun tutorial on seduction.

Meanwhile, Hilda and Archie give their relationship a go and Daniel learns about metaphors! Let's get chatting, just read more

Ugly Betty Rundown: Episode 18, "A Mother of a Problem"

This week's Ugly Betty comes with a super-special treat: Christine Baranski!

This week's Ugly Betty comes with a super-special treat: Christine Baranski! Honestly, once Baranski's involved with something I'm hard-pressed to be very critical of it. She is pitch-perfect as Betty's new boyfriend's upper-crust snob of a mother who disapproves of our young heroine. As usual, Betty is desperate to please, but winning over Matt's mom looks like it's going to be an uphill battle.

Meanwhile, Hilda reluctantly accepts love into her life post married dude, Daniel wants to fight Molly's cancer, and Wilhelmina faces losing her daily champagne and caviar snack in the wake of the financial crisis plaguing Mode. Fun episode, so let's talk about it! Just read more

Ugly Betty Rundown: Episode 17, "Sugar Daddy"

This week's episode of Ugly Betty is ripped from the super-crazy-depressing recession headlines that have been ruining all of our days for months now.

This week's episode of Ugly Betty is ripped from the super-crazy-depressing recession headlines that have been ruining all of our days for months now. I guess I'm not surprised the gloomy financial news finally seeped into my Thursday night television lineup but I'm not totally happy about it.

Thankfully, there was also a story woven in there about people down on their luck (surprise! The Suarez family) miraculously coming out on top, plus some smooshy relationship stuff to boot. So all in all pretty solid episode in terms of not boring me. Ready to chat about it? Just read more

Ugly Betty Rundown: Episode 16, "Things Fall Apart"

So, wow. This week's episode of Ugly Betty is filled with intrigue, mystery, work dilemmas for Betty and Marc, and even love!

So, wow. This week's episode of Ugly Betty is filled with intrigue, mystery, work dilemmas for Betty and Marc, and even love! It's also awfully intense and pretty sad by the end.

It's a decent followup to last week's amazing runway birth (I mean, it's not like anything was going to top that). It's especially dramatic where the Daniel/Molly and Willi/Connor relationships are concerned, because I've been feeling for a while now that they need to be more than just lovey-dovey . All in all, it's a satisfying hour of TV. So let's talk about it! Just read more

Ugly Betty Rundown: Episode 15, "There's No Place Like Mode"

I've never had much inclination to attend a show at Fashion Week in New York (I leave that up to my best buds Fab and Bella), but if all fashion shows were like the one on this week's Ugly Betty, I'd fight for a front-row seat each and every time.

I've never had much inclination to attend a show at Fashion Week in New York (I leave that up to my best buds Fab and Bella), but if all fashion shows were like the one on this week's Ugly Betty, I'd fight for a front-row seat each and every time. Between one of my favorite scripted-drama scenes of the year so far in terms of sheer pageantry and a nonannoying Betty and a nonannoying Betty's family — people, I think Ugly Betty's got its groove back! At least for the moment. So let's chat about it before someone (probably Molly) makes us all feel weird about the show again. Just read more

Ugly Betty Rundown: Episode 14, "The Courtship of Betty's Father"

Hey, Ugly Betty fans!

Hey, Ugly Betty fans! This week's episode featured a good dose of Claire Meade, which I always enjoy since it inevitably leads to a lot of jokes about murder and pill popping. The matriarch copes with her upcoming 60th birthday with a little retail therapy — except she skips the paying part. Another highly inevitable plot twist develops, too, having to do with Ignacio's pretty nurse. Also, Betty is unable to learn how to work a giant, ancient video camera! Ready to chat? Just read more
