Adaptations are all the rage these days, and the upcoming big-screen version of Jonathan Tropper's novel This Is Where I Leave You is one adaptation we're eagerly anticipating, since we loved the book about a dysfunctional family begrudgingly coming together. Shawn Levy is directing, and Jason Bateman is on board to fill the shoes of main character Judd, one of four siblings who assemble to sit shiva when their father dies. If you've read the book, then you'll want to see who's playing who, so check out the casting so far.

I Am Number Four: A Silly Thrill Ride

I Am Number Four is an action-packed film with a cast of gorgeous young actors that mixes sci-fi and teen romance.

I Am Number Four is an action-packed film with a cast of gorgeous young actors that mixes sci-fi and teen romance. Alex Pettyfer stars as John Smith, an alien originally from Lorien who escaped the planet before its destruction. As one of nine Lorien refugees known as the Garde, each of the aliens is known by their number, and they can only be killed in sequence — and John is number four, hence the title.

Another, more creepy alien race called the Mogadorians seek to wipe out John's kind, tracking him and the other members of the Garde who are hiding on Earth. When a Garde member is killed by the Mogadorians, the remaining aliens receive a scar. John's only family is Lorien warrior Henri (Timothy Olyphant), who functions as John's father figure while guiding him away from harm. When John get his third scar, warning him that he's next in line to die, he and Henri pick up and move to small town Paradise, Ohio.

Though I Am Number Four gets excessive at times with nearly every element (special effects, stunts, romance), it's entertaining. And while the story is not always clear, you're never bored. To find out what else I thought of the movie, just read more

Justin Timberlake Is Well Enough to Toast True Grit With the Coens

Justin Timberlake joined Joel Coen last night for an LA screening of True Grit.

Justin Timberlake joined Joel Coen last night for an LA screening of True Grit. The western film, which hits theaters on Dec. 22, is the latest offering from Joel and his brother Ethan Coen and stars Matt Damon and Josh Brolin, who also hit the reception with his wife, Diane Lane. Matt wasn't able to turn out for the event, however, as he's filming Contagion in Illinois with his very cold costar Gwyneth Paltrow. Justin is making the social rounds during a break from work on his new movie Now, as production was halted after he sustained an injury on set. JT's evidently well enough to continue doing press for The Social Network as the cast courts some love from the Oscars and even take girlfriend Jessica Biel out for a date.

The Office: Look Good (but Not Distractingly Hot) at Work

A new guy joined Dunder Mifflin on last night's episode of The Office, and he's making everyone swoon.

A new guy joined Dunder Mifflin on last night's episode of The Office, and he's making everyone swoon. In fact, Danny Cordray, who is played by Timothy Olyphant, is so handsome, Michael thought he was a male model. I'm excited to see how Danny's going to stir things up at work. After all, he dated Pam a few years ago, and before he was hired, he used to steal clients away from Dunder. I admit, he does look pretty crushworthy, but there are many ways you can look good at the office, too! Remember, you want to look great, but not as distractingly hot as Danny is. Here are three tips you should keep in mind:

  • Stay comfortable: Wear clothing that you feel comfortable in. For example, don't wear shoes that pinch your feet or shirts so tight that you won't be able to breathe. You do not want to look like you're in pain; you want to look confident and fresh.
  • Don't overdo it: You're in the office. It's daytime. Keep those two things in mind and dress yourself appropriately. Lay off the Snooki poof and the heavy makeup.
  • Figure out the office fashion: Observe what your fellow co-workers are wearing, and follow in their footsteps. That's the easiest rule of how to dress accordingly to your company's officewear guidelines. After all, you don't want to be the one all suited up when everyone's wearing sundresses!

Watch, Pass, or Rent: The Crazies

I half-watch most horror movies, and this Friday's The Crazies looks like yet another one that I'll shield my eyes for.

I half-watch most horror movies, and this Friday's The Crazies looks like yet another one that I'll shield my eyes for. The film follows a small Iowa town which experiences a widespread plague when a toxin is released into the water supply. Its effect: turning everyone into psychopaths on murderous rampages, save for a few of its residents (namely actor Timothy Olyphant who plays the sheriff and Radha Mitchell as his wife).

Olyphant is nice to look at — I loved him in Go — but I don't know if his pretty face is enough to compensate for the heebie-jeebie factor. I mean, how am I going to withstand the movie if I can't even get past the creepy trailer?

What about you? Are you excited to go see The Crazies for a good scare? Or will you wait to watch it in the safety of your home — or not at all?

First Look: Timothy Olyphant in Lawman

If you've been looking forward to seeing Timothy Olyphant wearing a badge again ever since it was reported that he'd be starring in the new show Lawman for FX, now's the time.

If you've been looking forward to seeing Timothy Olyphant wearing a badge again ever since it was reported that he'd be starring in the new show Lawman for FX, now's the time. In this first clip released from the show, which will begin airing sometime in 2010, Olyphant pretty much acts like exactly the badass I was hoping he would be.

Lawman is based on an Elmore Leonard short story and stars Olyphant as US Marshal Raylan Givens, who returns to his Kentucky hometown to — apparently — put the smack down on modern-day skinheads and others who cross him. Writer Graham Yost once said this character seemed "like he was born 100 years too late," and I believe it: his whole look and attitude seem like something from an earlier time. Actually, it reminds me a little of No Country for Old Men in that way. Want to check out the scene for yourself? Just read more

Timothy Olyphant Sidles Up to FX Pilot

Timothy Olyphant is staying in business with FX.

Timothy Olyphant is staying in business with FX. Just a few weeks after we saw the end to his arc on Damages, Olyphant has been cast as the lead in a new pilot based on an Elmore Leonard short story.

In the as-yet-untitled pilot, based on the story "Fire in the Hole," Olyphant will play U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens, who returns to his Kentucky hometown. Here's how the show's writer, Graham Yost, described the character:

He has a certain jaggedness, but he also loves his job. He is like an anachronism: He wears a hat, cowboy boots and a holster on his hip. It's a little bit like he was born 100 years too late.

Maybe Olyphant will channel a character from earlier in his career (and roughly a century older): Sheriff Seth Bullock from HBO's Deadwood, the outlaw series set in the 1870s.

I wonder if this means the end for Olyphant's Wes on Damages, but I'll also be curious to see him hold down a show as the lead. What do you make of this news?
