Don't be fooled by the intro for The New Pornographers' latest music video: it's not really a trailer for a terrible-looking comedy called Expectant Dads, starring Paul Rudd and Bill Hader. The funny fake-out is the lead-in for for "Moves," which itself plays out like a short film, following the genesis of the band in a satirized, Behind the Music-style story. Keep your eyes peeled for cameos by Donald Glover, Horatio Sanz, and John Hodgman, as well as fellow musicians like Ted Leo. And if you're really dying to know more about that Paul Rudd/Bill Hader movie that will never be? There's a website.

6 Months, 6 Favorites: The Best of 2010 (So Far)
It's July! That means we're halfway through 2010 and, therefore, halfway through the movies, TV, and music that the year has to offer. I've been reminiscing to sift through my favorites so far, and though it wasn't easy, I've come up with my top six. That's two albums, two films, and two new shows that caught my attention (one for each month!). Take a look and tell me what's been an entertainment highpoint for you this year.
The New Pornographers Twirl Umbrellas in Their New Video
Ready for a most delightful afternoon break? Watch The New Pornographers' music video for "The Crash Years." Not only is the whistle-heavy song one of my favorites from the new album, the accompanying visual is fun and whimsical.

What to Download: New Music Today
Just call this Super Tuesday: along with the week's DVD releases, we have three standout albums hitting shelves — two of which were among my picks for May! I was pumped to get my hands on them, so now's your turn to give a listen. (And don't forget to check out the Music Review Group. If you submit a writeup, I may even feature your thoughts on the site!)
No apology necessary: Indie collective Broken Social Scene release their first album since 2005 with Forgiveness Rock Record. Despite large numbers (seven core members total), Forgiveness keeps cohesive, even when the songs are purposely derailing at high speeds, as on the frenzied "Chase Scene." Things slow on "All to All" where Lisa Lobsinger lays vocals over bubbling electro-pop and on the ballad "Sweetest Kill." For giggles, try "Texico Bitches" or "Me and My Hand," a love song dedicated to your, um, hand.
Delightful camaraderie: I've been dying to check out the New Pornographers' latest Together, ever since the single "Your Hands (Together)" and its fun accompanying video first caught my attention. It's still my favorite on the album, but I'm also loving the more pared-down "Valkyrie in the Roller Disco" with its subtle maraca shaking and "We End Up Together," a building group number which finishes out the album with a chorus of la-la-las. BYOT (bring your own tambourine).

Spring Music Preview: Buzz Picks
It may not seem like it yet, but Spring is right around the corner, as are all the warmth and flowers that come with it. Even if your location is being stingy with the sunshine, you can get it another way: new music! The next few months hold a ton of fresh new albums, and I've gone through them and picked out the ones I'm most excited for — and hope you will be too.
New Music: The New Pornographers "Your Hands (Together)"
Get your early listen of The New Pornographers latest! The band just released the first track off their upcoming album Together, out May 4. Filled with heavy drumming and a dose of tambourine, "Your Hands (Together)" is sunny, party-ready pop that feels like an upbeat call to arms. It's classic Pornographers — and it's only upping my anticipation for the rest of the album (which reportedly features guest turns from other indie darlings, like Beirut's Zach Condon and St. Vincent's Annie Clark).
Needless to say, I'm digging it, so props to Neko Case, A.C. Newman, and the rest of the gang for creating such a fun track. Check it out — and clap along! — when you read more
