Dark Knight Wins Box Office for the Fourth Week in a Row!

Interestingly, neither a BFF movie nor a stoner action-comedy could dethrone The Dark Knight in its fourth weekend.

Interestingly, neither a BFF movie nor a stoner action-comedy could dethrone The Dark Knight in its fourth weekend. Having already surpassed the $400 million mark in domestic ticket sales, the superhero movie pulled in another $26 million over the weekend.

According to Variety, the movie has now taken the place of Shrek 2 to "become the third highest domestic grosser of all time with a cume of $441.5 million. It’s expected to beat Star Wars in the next week before finally settling at No. 2."

Pineapple Express came in second place with $22.4 million (however, it has earned a total of $40.4 million since it opened last Wednesday), followed by The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor in third, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 in fourth, and Step Brothers in fifth place.

What do you think? Will The Dark Knight score five weeks in a row at No. 1?

Box Office: The Batman Still On Top

For the third weekend in a row, The Dark Knight was No.

For the third weekend in a row, The Dark Knight was No. 1 at the box office, narrowly beating The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor for the top spot. The Mummy earned about $42.5 million while The Dark Knight earned $43.8 million. Thanks to this win, The Dark Knight has just about crossed the $400 million line in domestic ticket sales.

Variety notes that most box office watchers had predicted this would be the weekend Batman would lose his crown, but I'm not all that surprised. The third addition to the silly action-adventure Mummy franchise failed to meet even the lowest critical expectations earning far worse reviews than the two before it.

Somewhat hilariously, Brendan Fraser now has two movies in the top five box office earners this week, as the 3-D adventure Journey to the Center of the Earth is holding strong at No. 5. So that would make him. . . a fairly hot box office commodity. Wow.

Elsewhere in the top five, Step Brothers came in third place and Mamma Mia! took fourth.

Will Mummies Bump Batman From the No. 1 Box Office Spot?

Though it may not be a cinematic masterpiece, the third Mummy movie is a fairly lighthearted summertime action flick that most of the family can see, and will probably do pretty well at the box office this weekend.

Though it may not be a cinematic masterpiece, the third Mummy movie is a fairly lighthearted summertime action flick that most of the family can see, and will probably do pretty well at the box office this weekend. But will it be able to break The Dark Knight's reign as No. 1 movie?

According to Variety, "Box office observers believe director Rob Cohen's Dragon Emperor has a good shot at coming in No. 1," even though "Dark Knight remains a juggernaut as it heads into its third session."

Which film do you think will take the box office crown this weekend?

A Chat With My Boyfriend About The Mummy

Full disclosure: I've never paid too-too much attention to these Mummy movies starring Brendan Fraser, but I know they're meant to be fun action-adventures that we shouldn't take too seriously.

Full disclosure: I've never paid too-too much attention to these Mummy movies starring Brendan Fraser, but I know they're meant to be fun action-adventures that we shouldn't take too seriously. For this third installment, I thought it would be a good idea to take my manfriend along with me to see The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. Sometimes instead of spending brain power on a review of a movie like this, it's more helpful to just talk it out with someone who's more likely than I am to passingly enjoy this kind of Summer action flick.

But as generous as my boyfriend can be about action movies and CGI, even he wasn't swayed by the "charms" of Brendan Fraser, and came away feeling like the movie's kind of a mess. I don't want to give away too much of our conversation before the break, other than the big takeaway: he really likes the Yetis, and I don't think he'd object if the fourth movie were to star them instead of the humans.

The Third Mummy Movie: Cheesy-Fun, or Just Cheesy?

If I'm being honest with myself (and you all), this new teaser trailer for The Mummy: The Tomb of the Dragon Emperor made me laugh out loud several times.

If I'm being honest with myself (and you all), this new teaser trailer for The Mummy: The Tomb of the Dragon Emperor made me laugh out loud several times. Now, whether it's supposed to be this funny, I'm not sure, but I just find it so silly I can't help giggling. Thus, maybe this movie will be just a goofy, fun time in the theater — especially with some of the neat effects. Or maybe it'll be eye-rollingly ridiculous.

What say you?
