NBC Cancels The Event and Law & Order: Los Angeles

No sooner have we gotten the good news that Chuck and Parenthood have been renewed than we get the bad news: NBC has canceled The Event and Law & Order: Los Angeles. Both shows are in their first season and have suffered from low ratings; that said, there's a glimmer of hope for sci-fi series The Event. Apparently, there's a chance the show could get picked up by another outlet — possibly an unconventional one like Netflix — so The Event fans may not be left without answers after all.

UPDATE: Outsourced has also been canceled.

Which Endangered TV Show Would You Save?

It's a nerve-wracking time of year for TV fans, as we wait to hear news on whether our beloved series have been renewed for another season, or that other scary fate: canceled.

It's a nerve-wracking time of year for TV fans, as we wait to hear news on whether our beloved series have been renewed for another season, or that other scary fate: canceled. While we can breathe a sigh of relief for shows that were recently granted a new season (like most of the NBC comedies and Fringe), there are still a few shows that are on the bubble, meaning their survival is uncertain.

Among the series that haven't been renewed yet are my favorites Chuck, One Tree Hill, and Parenthood, and I'm getting nervous. It's looking bleak for certain shows, so I've listed out a few of the series that haven't been picked up yet so you can vote. Tell me which of these not-yet-renewed TV series you'd save if you could!

More Outsourced, The Event, Law & Order on the Way For NBC

It may be a bad year for Fall TV, but a few shows are still eking by with lackluster ratings.

It may be a bad year for Fall TV, but a few shows are still eking by with lackluster ratings. After giving the axe to Outlaw last week, NBC has put in full-season orders for The Event, Law & Order: LA, and Outsourced. I'm not surprised that the network is doing all it can to make The Event happen, and Outsourced has proved that it can hold its own among the other Thursday night comedies. Have you been watching any of these shows?

TV Show Check-In: The Event

Fall TV is off and running, so I've begun my check-ins for the new series.

Fall TV is off and running, so I've begun my check-ins for the new series. Last week I peeked in at Hellcats, and today I'm looking at NBC drama The Event.

As one of my five must-see shows, I wondered if The Event would be as compelling as Lost or 24, and so far it's doing a pretty good job. I was happy to see that big questions are already answered in the second episode (the "others" are actually aliens), and I really enjoy the format that takes us back in time to see exactly where each character was in the days leading up to the event.

Not every character's plight is equally thrilling, and I'm not sure how I feel about the aliens-among-us theme as the central conceit, but my interest is still here for now. Now it's your turn: If you're watching The Event, let me know how you're finding it, and if you're hooked yet — or why you won't continue watching.

Buzz In: What Did You Think of the New Monday Night Shows?

Like football season, Fall TV has kicked off!

Like football season, Fall TV has kicked off! The hype machines have been in full swing to promote new shows, and they got to prove themselves last night as several new series premiered, including The Event, Hawaii 5-0, Lone Star, and Chase.

I had a sneak peek at the pilots and gave you my advice — in fact, three out of the four shows I just mentioned were among my top five to watch. But now that you've had a chance to see them for yourselves, what did you think? Are you addicted to The Event yet? Have a crush on Lone Star's James Wolk or Hawaii Five-0's Alex O'Loughlin? Love the kickass heroine of Chase? I can't wait to hear your first impressions in the comments below!

TV Tonight: Fall TV Takes Off With New and Returning Shows!

Fall TV has been slowly trickling in over the past two weeks, but tonight it turns things up full blast with an onslaught of returning shows and new soon-to-be favorites!

Fall TV has been slowly trickling in over the past two weeks, but tonight it turns things up full blast with an onslaught of returning shows and new soon-to-be favorites! Let's break it down: ABC's Dancing With the Stars comes back with a fresh cast followed by Castle, NBC will reveal last season's cliffhanger (Chuck's mom!) on Chuck, and we'll see how the romance between Cuddy and House is working out on FOX's House. Plus, there's How I Met Your Mother's premiere with Rachel Bilson.

As if that wasn't enough to keep you busy, there's also added competition, as the networks unveil new programming. Three of my five Fall must sees bow this evening, including CBS's Hawaii Five-0, NBC's The Event, and FOX's Lone Star with dreamy heartthrob James Wolk. They'll be accompanied by fellow newbies Mike & Molly and Chase (featuring a brand-new kickass female character).

Whew! I know it's going to be hard to keep track of everything — especially with so many shows competing in the same time slots — so make sure to download my official TV calendar to keep it all straight (my head is practically spinning already!). What will you watch tonight?
