Box Office: No Strings Attached Scores the Number One Spot

Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher's romantic comedy No Strings Attached had no problems getting audiences to commit to seeing it — the new release won the weekend box office race, earning $20.3 million. In second place was last week's champ, Seth Rogen superhero flick The Green Hornet, with $18.1 million.

Vince Vaughn comedy The Dilemma pulled into third place with $9.7 million, followed by award season favorite The King's Speech, which made $9.1 million (perhaps folks were eager to see Colin Firth's Golden-Globe-winning performance). The Coen Bros. western True Grit completed the top five with a haul of $8 million.

Box Office: The Green Hornet Buzzes to the Top

The January box office slump persisted over the Martin Luther King weekend, with the low numbers making it the least attended MLK weekend since the mid '90s.

The January box office slump persisted over the Martin Luther King weekend, with the low numbers making it the least attended MLK weekend since the mid '90s. Those who did make it to the theater were looking for some action, because Seth Rogen's foray into superhero territory, The Green Hornet, came in first with $34 million.

The masked Rogen beat out the other new release, Vince Vaughn's comedy The Dilemma, which pulled in $17.4 million to get it into second place. In the number three was last week's winner, True Grit, which earned $11.2. Another success of the week was The King's Speech — between the wide release and awards buzz, it catapulted from the ninth to the fourth spot with $9 million, for the first time in the box office top five! And in the fifth spot was fellow award season darling Black Swan, which earned $8.1 million.

The Dilemma: A Buddy Comedy That's Kind of a Bummer

The title of The Dilemma seems apt, because the film is having a dilemma of its own: how do you make jokes about a marriage falling apart?

The title of The Dilemma seems apt, because the film is having a dilemma of its own: how do you make jokes about a marriage falling apart? The film tries to make light of what is frankly, a sad scenario, and it never really gets the balance of drama and comedy quite right.

Vince Vaughn plays Ronny Valentine, a small business owner who works on electric car motors in Chicago with his best friend from college, Nick (Kevin James). Ronny is the face of their operation, using his smooth sales techniques to wheel and deal with clients; Nick is the brains, the nerdy engineer who sees the projects through completion. They're the perfect team, and with Nick's wife Geneva (Winona Ryder) and Ronny's girlfriend Beth (Jennifer Connelly), the foursome is practically like family. But when Ronny catches Geneva playing tonsil hockey with a tattooed guy who's not, he begins to question everything: the sanctity of marriage, friendship, and most of all, to tell or not to tell?

New Dad Vince Vaughn Shares His Dilemma With Pregnant Jennifer and Father-to-Be Kevin James

It was a night of family for the stars of The Dilemma at their Chicago premiere yesterday.

It was a night of family for the stars of The Dilemma at their Chicago premiere yesterday. Jennifer Connelly, who shared about her very specific pregnancy cravings Wednesday on The Late Show, flaunted her bump in a gray Lanvin dress, while Kevin James posed with his expecting wife, Steffiana de la Cruz — the Jameses are adding to their family with their third child! Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan, while not currently expanding their clan, showed off their happy marriage with some red carpet PDA. Vince Vaughn became a father himself just last month when his wife, Kyla, delivered baby Locklyn. Kyla skipped out on the screening, but Vince looked happy to mingle with director Ron Howard, producer Brian Grazer, and costar Winona Ryder.

The Dilemma Trailer: Vince Vaughn Is in a Pickle

Back when Ron Howard's project The Dilemma was first announced, I was a little leery about how he was going to turn a subject like infidelity into a comedy.

Back when Ron Howard's project The Dilemma was first announced, I was a little leery about how he was going to turn a subject like infidelity into a comedy. Now that we've seen the trailer, the bigger question is whether or not it will actually be funny.

Vince Vaughn stars as Ronny, a guy who works at an auto design firm with his best friend, Nick (Kevin James). Both are happily attached — Ronny to his girlfriend, Beth (Jennifer Connelly), and Nick to his wife, Geneva (Winona Ryder) — but when Ronny spies Geneva kissing another dude (Channing Tatum), he can't decide whether to tell his closest bud.

Something seems off about this preview. Perhaps it's having Vaughn, Connelly, and Queen Latifah in the same film, or that the jokes aren't cracking me up like I'd hoped (having a hard time peeing just isn't that hilarious). Even so, between Vaughn's quick tongue and Howard's direction, I figure it can't be all that bad. The film hits in January, but give it a peek when you read more

Newlywed Vince Vaughn to Poke Fun at Infidelity

Vince Vaughn has signed on for a comedy about the repercussions of cheating (hopefully something that the newlywed knows nothing about!).

Vince Vaughn has signed on for a comedy about the repercussions of cheating (hopefully something that the newlywed knows nothing about!). The untitled Universal Pictures film follows a guy who discovers that his best friend's wife has a wandering eye — and how to deal with that knowledge. Ron Howard will direct, and Vaughn is set to produce alongside Howard's usual right hand, Brian Grazer.

Infidelity doesn't exactly lend itself to being laugh-out-loud funny, but the project is being touted as more in the vein of The Breakup, which obviously had a darker tone than your typical rom-com. That gives me hope for this one; plus, I put a lot of trust in Ron Howard to steer the movie and its subject matter in the right direction.

The film is supposedly set to start filming this Spring in Vaughn's hometown of Chicago, so they better get casting the leading lady (or ladies). Any ideas about which actress you'd like to see?
