Star Trek Into Darkness earned $70.6 million at the box office this weekend, beating the previous reigning box office champ, Iron Man 3, which earned $35.2 million. Coming in third was The Great Gatsby, which made $23.4 in its second week of release. Pain and Gain dropped to fourth, taking in just $3.1 million, while animated film The Croods stuck it out in fifth place with $2.7 million.
Iron Man 3 Crushes It With the Second-Largest Opening of All Time
Tony Stark took down more than The Mandarin this weekend: Iron Man 3 earned $175.3 million, earning the blockbuster the second-highest opening weekend of all time behind last year's The Avengers. Last week's No. 1, Pain & Gain, followed far, far behind, taking in $7.6 million. Historical baseball movie 42 stayed steady in third place, earning $6.2 million, followed by Oblivion, with $5.8 million. The Croods rounded out the top five with $4.2 million.
Box Office: Pain & Gain Shows Muscle
Michael Bay's pumped-up action movie Pain & Gain won the box office in its first weekend of release, scoring a haul of $20 million. Tom Cruise's sci-fi Oblivion held up pretty well in its second week, adding $17.4 million to its total, while Jackie Robinson biopic 42 stayed strong in third place, earning $10.7 million. New release The Big Wedding took in $7.5 million, and The Croods hung in the top five with $6.6 million. Matthew McConaughey's new film, Mud, took in $2.2 million in limited release.
Box Office: Oblivion Is Galaxies Above the Competition
Tom Cruise's futuristic new release, Oblivion, won this weekend's box office, beating expectations and earning $38.2 million. Bumped to second place was 42 with $18 million, while The Croods stayed steady in third place, adding $9.5 million to its total. Scary Movie 5 made $6.3 million, and G.I. Joe: Retaliation rounded out the top five with a $5.8 million haul.

Box Office: 42 Hits It Out of the Park
Home run! Pardon the baseball puns, but Jackie Robinson biopic 42 was No. 1 at the box office this weekend with $27.3 million. Fellow new release Scary Movie 5 came in second with $15.2 million, followed by animated family film The Croods with $13.2 million. In fourth place came action sequel G.I. Joe: Retaliation with $10.8 million, and last week's No. 1, horror remake Evil Dead, rounded out the top five with $9.5 million. Disconnect also came out this weekend in a handful of theaters, earning $124,000.

Box Office: Evil Dead Leaps Over Jurassic Park 3D
Horror reboot Evil Dead won the box office this weekend, raking in $26 million and besting G.I. Joe: Retaliation and The Croods, both of which added $21.1 million to their total. "New" release Jurassic Park 3D came in at fourth place and took in $18.3 million, a sizable amount for a rerelease. Olympus Has Fallen rounded out the top five with $10 million, while limited-release films The Company You Keep and Trance, directed by Danny Boyle, earned $146,000 in five theaters and $136,000 in four theaters respectively.

Action sequel G.I. Joe: Retaliation took over the box office in its opening weekend, raking in $41.2 million. Last week's no. 1, The Croods, came in second with $26.5 million, followed by new release Tyler Perry's Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor with $22.3 million. Olympus Has Fallen fell to fourth with $14 million, and Oz the Great and Powerful added $11.6 million to its grand total. Another new release The Host failed to crack the top five and took in a disappointing $11 million.
Box Office: The Croods Scores Big With Audiences
Animated family film The Croods won the box office this weekend, pulling in $44.7 million in its debut. Another of the week's new releases, Olympus Has Fallen, took second place with $30.5 million, followed by last week's winner, Oz the Great and Powerful, with $22 million. Halle Berry's thriller The Call took fourth with $8.7 million, while Tina Fey and Paul Rudd's romantic comedy Admission only earned $6.4 million and fifth place for its first weekend of release. Spring Breakers followed with $5 million in its nationwide opening.
Clark Duke on His Last Day at The Office and His "Bizarre" Experience on The Croods
As "Dwight Jr." on The Office, Clark Duke played the straight man to Rainn Wilson in the show's final season.
