The Campaign

Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis square off as a couple of dim-witted candidates in the political ring in The Campaign. Cam Brady (Ferrell) is set for another term as a congressman, but he gets some unexpected competition when small-town guy Marty Huggins (Galifianakis) is persuaded to run against him — but soon gets in over his head. Over-the-top hijinks abound when the two set out on the campaign trail. Though the leads are great performers independently, this movie doesn't quite live up to its comedic potential. The DVD comes with a gag reel, deleted scenes, and an improvisation roll.

Safety Not Guaranteed

A pair of journalists (Aubrey Plaza and Jake Johnson) investigate an ad in the newspaper seeking a companion for time travel. They discover the man on the other end of it, a strange and paranoid supermarket clerk (Mark Duplass) who is genuinely hoping to find someone to travel with. Though the journalists begin with skepticism, their opinions change as they observe the man. Plaza balances her trademark sardonic wit with endearing sensitivity, while Johnson gives a sophisticated performance as well. Extras include two featurettes about the making of the movie.

The Expendables 2 Stays Fierce at Number One at the Box Office

For the second week in a row, The Expendables 2 claimed the top spot at the box office, earning $13.5 million.

For the second week in a row, The Expendables 2 claimed the top spot at the box office, earning $13.5 million. In fact, all of last week's top four remained in their spots from last week: The Bourne Legacy took in $9.3 million, ParaNorman earned $8.6 million, The Campaign came in fourth place at $7.4 million, and The Dark Knight Rises sneaked back into the top five with $7.1 million. Surprisingly, none of this week's new releases (including Premium Rush, with $6.3 million, and Hit and Run, with $4.7 million) cracked the top five.

Sexy Movie Politicians Win Our Vote!

Today The Campaign hits theaters, starring Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis as political candidates going head to head in a ruthless bid for Congress.

Today The Campaign hits theaters, starring Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis as political candidates going head to head in a ruthless bid for Congress. While there's something attractive about a guy who can make you laugh, these funnymen follow in the very fine footsteps of some other actors who've played elected officials on film. George Clooney, Robert Redford, and Harrison Ford are just a handful of the sexiest presidents, governors, and senators to hit the big screen. Ahead of the real presidential elections this year, let's ogle some onscreen political eye candy now!

The Campaign: A Sloppy Race

Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis are two of the funniest comic actors in the game, and pitting them against each other as political candidates in The Campaign seems like a stroke of genius.

Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis are two of the funniest comic actors in the game, and pitting them against each other as political candidates in The Campaign seems like a stroke of genius. The two men should be at their best, challenging each other as comedic actors in a parallel to their characters' onscreen sparring. Unfortunately, neither actor wins this race, because the script is mediocre at best and wastes the talent of its leads.

Ferrell stars as Cam Brady, the incumbent US congressman of North Carolina, who's set for another term — until the diabolical Motch Brothers (Dan Aykroyd and John Lithgow), a pair of greasy entrepreneurs, get involved. They want to put a new candidate in office for their own selfish purposes: they need a pawn who will support laws that will allow them to do shady business. They set their sights on simple, small-town Marty Huggins (Galifianakis), and groom him with the help of a conniving campaign adviser (Dylan McDermott). The political plot is about as stimulating on screen as it sounds on paper, so it's up to the jokes to make the movie entertaining. Sadly, the humor is as dumb as Cam's nonsensical stump speeches. To find out what else I thought of The Campaign, just keep reading.

The Campaign Trailer: Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis Are Bumbling Rival Politicians

The trailer for The Campaign couldn't come at a better time, what with our country's own presidential election on the horizon.

The trailer for The Campaign couldn't come at a better time, what with our country's own presidential election on the horizon. Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis star as Cam Brady and Marty Huggins, a pair of politicians who are racing against each other for a seat in the US House of Representatives. Their rivalry isn't their only problem — both politicians are pretty dense and prone to saying silly things out on the campaign trail, like Brady's grammatically incorrect statements and Huggins's call to get rid of daylight savings time because he hates it when it gets dark early.

The preview, which is in the format of dueling campaign ads, isn't as gut busting as I was expecting for a Ferrell/Galifianakis movie, but I did laugh at a few of their antics. Plus, I'm hoping that there are more funny bits in the movie itself. The film comes out Aug. 10, and you can watch the trailer after the jump.
