The Avengers

For the first time, Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans), The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) come together when Thor's madman brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston) threatens to bring wide destruction to Earth. You don't need to be a comic book fan to enjoy Joss Whedon's adaptation, which is packed with action and humor. Damsels in Distress

Greta Gerwig leads the cast in this enjoyable comedy from director Whit Stillman. Violet (Gerwig) and her two friends have a habit of helping — or at least trying to help — lost souls on their college campus. When they come across Lily (Analeigh Tipton), they feel compelled to take her under their protective wing. Extras include commentary with Stillman and cast, outtakes, deleted scenes, a behind-the-scenes featurette and an interview with Stillman and the main cast.

Families headed to the theater this weekend instead of the zoo, helping launch Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted to the number one spot at the box office with $60.4 million. Coming up behind the animated flick was Ridley Scott's Prometheus, which earned $50 million and was also in its first weekend. Snow White and the Huntsman dropped to third place with $23 million, followed by Men in Black 3, which took in $13.5 million. Finally, The Avengers hung in the top five with $10.8 million.

Snow White and the Huntsman topped the box office this weekend, opening with $56.3 million. Last week's number one flick, Men in Black 3, dropped to second place with $29.3 million, followed by The Avengers with $20.2 million. Battleship came in fourth with $4.8 million, and The Dictator rounded out the top five with $4.7 million.

Raking in $55 million this weekend, Men in Black 3 managed to finally bring down box office behemoth The Avengers, which took second place with $37 million. Battleship came in third with $10.8 million in its second week in theaters, followed by The Dictator, which earned $9.6 million. The newly released Chernobyl Diaries came in fifth with $8 million.

For the third week in a row, The Avengers has taken the top spot at the box office. The Marvel superhero flick earned $55.1 million this weekend, bringing its total gross to an impressive $457 million. New releases Battleship and The Dictator trailed behind, with $25.3 million and $17.4 million, respectively. Johnny Depp's vampire revival Dark Shadows came in fourth in its second week in theaters, taking in $12.8, and the Jennifer Lopez ensemble comedy What to Expect When You're Expecting rounded out the top five with $10.5 million in its first weekend.
