Is Sam Flynn Modeled After John Connor?

If you're trekking out to the theater this weekend to see Tron Legacy (or maybe you already have?), you may also notice something interesting: a striking similarity between Sam Flynn and John Connor of the Terminator series (specifically Terminator 2: Judgment Day).

If you're trekking out to the theater this weekend to see Tron Legacy (or maybe you already have?), you may also notice something interesting: a striking similarity between Sam Flynn and John Connor of the Terminator series (specifically Terminator 2: Judgment Day).

As I recall, John Connor was a rebellious punk kid whose mom was locked away in a mental hospital, and acts out by hacking ATMs, speeding through the streets of LA on his dirt bike, and spends a majority of his time playing video games at the behest of his foster parents. Comparatively, Sam Flynn lost his dad at a young age (who we find out later has been locked away in a virtual world), and acts out by hacking into ENCOM's computers, speeding through the streets on his Ducati, and battles programs in virtual games inside the Grid. Although John Connor's tools seem antique now compared to Sam's slim and portable Nokia N8 ('memba that computer John used to hack into the ATM?), the themes are pretty similar. Further, although no one likes to talk about Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, you could say that Garrett Hedlund sorta looks like Nick Stahl. Yes? No?

Can you find any other similarities between Tron Legacy and Terminator, or Sam and John? Play along in the comments!

Box Office: Night at the Museum Beats Terminator!

Ben Stiller's Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian blew Terminator Salvation out of the water over Memorial Day weekend, earning an estimated $70 million.

Ben Stiller's Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian blew Terminator Salvation out of the water over Memorial Day weekend, earning an estimated $70 million.

However, despite coming in second place, McG's effort to revive the popular sci-fi franchise is still a success, earning a solid $53.8 million. That's impressive considering Terminator's less-than-glowing reviews, as well as competition in the action-adventure genre from Star Trek, which came in third place.

Angels & Demons came in at No. 4 followed by Dance Flick which debuted at No. 5.

Love It or Leave It: The Terminator Salvation Trailer

On the one hand, it's Christian Bale and it's a gritty, action-packed Terminator story.

On the one hand, it's Christian Bale and it's a gritty, action-packed Terminator story. On the other hand, for some reason I'm not all that intrigued about the movie after watching this. What do you think of the trailer for Terminator Salvation?

Common Gives Us A Reason to See Terminator 4

Well, OK, we already had one reason: Christian Bale.

Well, OK, we already had one reason: Christian Bale. But now that Common's joining the cast of the fourth Terminator installment, Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins, it's pretty much guaranteed I'll check out this movie.

According to Variety, "Story centers on John Connor (Bale), now in his 30s, who leads what is left of the human race in a battle against the machines. Common will play a freedom fighter and member of Connor's inner circle."

Oooh, "freedom fighter." Hot.

So, I know what I'm doing Memorial Day weekend, 2009. What about you?

Fergie Ferg's FuelBelt: The Terminator

Lately we've been seeing Fergie taking her runs and workouts outdoors, which is cool.

Lately we've been seeing Fergie taking her runs and workouts outdoors, which is cool. I like to see a celebrity exercising outdoors. I am chuckling about her giant headphones, but what's with that crazy belt?

Fergie is sporting a 6-Bottle Terminator FuelBelt by FuelBelt ($32.26). While she has the 6-bottle (7 oz flasks), you can get also them in 2-8 bottle sizes as well. Typically people use these sort of belts when they are training for an endurance event like a marathon. You can fill a few flasks with water and a few with gels if you want.

It doesn't really look as though Fergie is training for a marathon (maybe a walk-a-thon), but I could be wrong. She could also just be really, really thirsty. My guess, however, is that Fergie's trainer is having her wear one for added weight (similar to a weighted vest) during her walks -- This way she is killing two birds with one stone, a few added pounds and thirst quencher (or fuel boost). You can do the same, so buy it from GotBody.com.

Sequels, Part 2

Sigh. I can rant all I want, it looks like sequels are still where it's at these days.

Sigh. I can rant all I want, it looks like sequels are still where it's at these days. There was the recent rumor about a possible Austin Powers 4, then there was news of a Wall Street 2, and now the sequel party rages on:
