MTV's Teen Wolf Trailer: Abs, Angst, and Star-Crossed Lovers

We got a a very short look at MTV's Teen Wolf back in November, and it wasn't that much to sink your teeth into (heh). The full-length trailer just released this week gives you much more of the dark story (like we said back then, this ain't no Michael J. Fox comedy). High schooler Scott (Tyler Posey) gets bitten by a werewolf in the woods one night and begins to undergo physical changes far more intense than puberty. His best friend Stiles (Dylan O'Brien) knows his secret and is there for him by locking him away when the moon gets full, because Scott realizes that he's capable of killing people in his wolf form.

Stiles's other major concern is keeping Scott away from love interest Allison (Crystal Reed), because she raises his pulse, which triggers his transformation. If you know teenagers, you know that it only makes Scott want her more, and Allison's dad just happens to be a werewolf hunter by night. Forbidden teen monster-on-human love? Cue the Twilight comparisons. Still, with werewolves so hot right now (The Vampire Diaries has all but devoted its current season to them), I imagine plenty of people will want to check this out. If you're one of them, watch the full preview after the break

First Look: MTV's Teen Wolf

Twilight may be on hiatus, and zombies are invading our TV screens, but MTV is making sure you don't forget about those werewolves.

Twilight may be on hiatus, and zombies are invading our TV screens, but MTV is making sure you don't forget about those werewolves. Today brings our first look at the small screen remake of Teen Wolf, slated to premiere early next year. The story seems pretty standard: a teenage boy (Tyler Posey) wanders into a forest alone at night and emerges with a nasty gash across his stomach. He assumes it's just a typical wolf bite until his senses are heightened and he's a lot more agile out on the lacrosse field. Oh, and as always, there's a girl who can never know his secret.

Right off the bat, the series feels a lot more serious than the Michael J. Fox comedy: for starters, there aren't any chuckles to be had here. The second major difference that sets this series apart is that titular teen wolf Scott takes on more of a Lycan form than a typical wolf likeness. You can still see he's part human, and there's not nearly as much as hair. (He does go shirtless, though.)

So will I be tuning in? I'm skeptical about whether this show will be MTV's new megahit, but it certainly looks more substantial than Jersey Shore (probably not as entertaining, though). Check out the trailer for yourself when you read more

Are Werewolves the New Vampires?

Is all the excitement over Jacob Black's transformation upcoming in New Moon becoming a craze?

Is all the excitement over Jacob Black's transformation upcoming in New Moon becoming a craze? Robert Pattinson isn't the only reason to see the follow-up to Twilight, and many can't wait to see how CGI and months of Taylor Lautner's gym time will look on screen.

And that's just the beginning of werewolf entertainment. Next February, we'll meet Benicio Del Toro's The Wolf Man, as well as a rebooted Teen Wolf TV series. Teen romance novel Shiver, which also happens to be about a werewolf, is set to be adapted into a film as well.

It's clear that werewolves are starting to blow up like their vampire brethren, and maybe as people start to tire of the bloodsuckers, they'll look to the latest supernatural fad. But do you think werewolves have the same allure as vampires to carry a whole new genre? Is the idea of them as interesting — or as sexy?

Teen Wolf Gets a Remake Too

I hope you're not tired of reboots of your favorite movies, because the hits just keep on coming.

I hope you're not tired of reboots of your favorite movies, because the hits just keep on coming. MTV has ordered a pilot for a Teen Wolf TV series. Apparently, the show will be "fresh" and "very different from the original," with a vibe similar to An American Werewolf in Paris.

I could barely stomach Teen Wolf Too the first time I saw it, since I was convinced that nobody could ever take Michael J. Fox's place. (Of course, now I find it hilarious to see a young Jason Bateman as the lead). To be fair, this isn't necessarily the worst remake idea I've ever heard. The high-school setting could actually translate well to the small screen, and at least it's a break from the vampire craze. I'm just not sure MTV will do justice to the original, especially since the network hasn't exactly churned out groundbreaking scripted shows in the past. Will you tune in or would you rather keep your memories of the classic '80s film untainted?
