Box Office: The Other Guys Are the Top Dogs

After a three-week box office reign, Inception has finally been knocked out of the top spot.

After a three-week box office reign, Inception has finally been knocked out of the top spot. It was bested by The Other Guys, which took in $35.6 million in its debut weekend. Christopher Nolan's thriller continues to earn the big bucks though, adding $18.6 million to an impressive total that's now over $230 million.

Step Up 3D settled for third place with $15.5 million, knocking Angelina Jolie's Salt to fourth with $11.1 million. Rounding out the top five was Dinner For Schmucks with $10.5 million.

Watch, Pass, or Rent: Step Up 3D

I've professed my love for dance movies many a time, and that same ardor is prompting me to confess something: I might go see Step Up 3D this weekend.

I've professed my love for dance movies many a time, and that same ardor is prompting me to confess something: I might go see Step Up 3D this weekend. I readily admit that I loved the first movie with Channing Tatum and saw the sequel, so I know that my viewership of the third flick is inevitable. I'm not going for the story; I'm going to see some kids from the wrong side of the track dance with some other kids from the right side of the track, and in 3D no less (watch the trailer if you're wondering how that's going to serve this movie).

So tell me — are you planning on catching Step Up 3D in the theater (or maybe you'd rather rent it for some fabulous future girls night)? . . . Or maybe you're planning on staying as far from this flick as possible. Give me your opinion below!

Which August Movie Release Are You Most Excited About?

It's the start of a new month, which means more movies are on the way.

It's the start of a new month, which means more movies are on the way. We have some big-name actors to watch for in the weeks ahead — including the top of the A-list, Jennifer and Julia — but which film earns your favor? Between a few rom-coms, two 3D choices, and a scary movie that's sure to scare the bejesus out of audiences (OK, or perhaps just me), there's plenty to choose from. Vote for the one that tops your list!

What to Download: New Music This Week

If today's DVD releases don't do it for you, I have some new tunes that are sure to snag your interest.

If today's DVD releases don't do it for you, I have some new tunes that are sure to snag your interest. Two are indie albums, one's a dance soundtrack, and all have songs worth downloading. Check 'em out!

Get down on it: The Step Up franchise is at it again with a new film and a mix of jams to go with it. Ignore the cheesy lyrics, because the soundtrack is really all about the dance-worthy beats. While none feel as catchy as the previous film's use of Flo Rida's "Get Low," "Freak" by Estelle and "Move (If You Wanna)" by Mims are definite standouts. If you're looking for a break from the bump and grind, try the '80s electro sound of Chromeo's "Fancy Footwork" or the Motown-esque "Beggin" by Madcon.

Surf's Up: Best Coast, an indie group from LA, is inducing some California dreamin' with their first full-length album Crazy For You. As the album's title suggests, it's mostly a collection of love songs that sound like they could be written by a smitten high schooler. Lyrics like "You drive me crazy but I love you / You make me lazy but I love you" on "Crazy For You" aren't the deepest, but it doesn't matter when the tracks are this catchy. It's the kinda album I'd like to blast with the windows rolled down on the way to the beach. Check out "Boyfriend" and "I Want To."

In Your Face! The New Step Up 3D Trailer

Embarrassing admission: I could hardly contain my excitement when I came across this trailer for Step Up 3D.

Embarrassing admission: I could hardly contain my excitement when I came across this trailer for Step Up 3D. I'm curious to see how the dancers' moves translate to 3D, but even without the effects, I'm pumped for a soundtrack of jams from one of my ultimate guilty pleasures. The only thing that could make it better: a reappearance from Channing Tatum. Check out the trailer (and watch for SYTYCD's Twitch!) when you read more
