4 Things I Want to See in the Snow White and the Huntsman Sequel

Snow White and the Huntsman just came out last week, but a sequel is already in the works, with Kristen Stewart and Chris Hemsworth reprising their titular roles. Since the action-heavy fairy-tale flick has a rather open ending (in one aspect, anyway), sequel news isn't surprising, but I do have a few ideas for what I'm hoping to see in a follow-up (warning: spoilers ahead).

  1. A love story. It's frustrating that Snow White doesn't choose between her two very good-looking suitors at the end of the film, so I'm assuming that the sequel will address this, and perhaps let it be the focus. I think it's pretty obvious that she belongs with the huntsman rather than William (Sam Claflin), the boy she's known since childhood, and I really want to see a good, hot kiss — and more romantic action in general — between Stewart and Hemsworth.
  2. Better character development. There's so much going on in Snow White and the Huntsman that some elements suffer, like fleshing out the characters. We learn a lot about Queen Ravenna, but for the most part, the other characters aren't as dimensional. I'd love to find out more about the huntsman's past and see more of Snow White's personality.
  3. A more glamorous Snow White. Snow White spends most of the film grimy, covered in dirt, and mostly in only one outfit (the horror!). After she overthrows the queen, we finally see a cleaned-up, gorgeous Snow White as she claims her rightful place on the throne. I'm hoping the sequel lets Stewart play dress-up in as many opulent looks as Charlize Theron's Queen Ravenna this time, so we can see Stewart looking regal in some awesome costumes.
  4. A more consistent tone. Snow White and the Huntsman is a pretty dark take on the classic story, but there are times when things suddenly get light — and downright weird, thanks to things like forest fairies. I'd like to see fewer effects used for the sake of using effects in favor of some consistency from the director.

We're excited to bring you the best fashion finds, shopping stories, and style news from one of our favorite sites, Fashionista. Today, they're giving us the inside scoop on Charlize Theron's Snow White costumes.

Making clothes fashioned from animal skin is nothing new. But making clothes out of insect skin (the technical term would be exoskeletons)? That's not as common. So we were intrigued to learn that this couture turquoise chiffon gown created for Charlize Theron's evil Queen Ravena in Snow White and the Huntsman features ornate dung beetle detailing. You read that right: Dung beetles.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, costume designer Colleen Atwood was just trolling around Thailand searching for inspiration and "unique materials" when she came across mounds of the discarded iridescent shells at a flea market. Atwood, who won her last Oscar for her Alice in Wonderland costumes, told the Washington Post that it took 50 workers to sew literally thousands of beetle wings to the gown, which, in the end, only gets a few seconds of dimly-lit screen time.

Learn Kristen Stewart's Skin-as-Pure-as-Snow Makeup Trick

Sharon Martin, head makeup artist for Snow White and the Huntsman, had little time to do touch-ups on set.

Sharon Martin, head makeup artist for Snow White and the Huntsman, had little time to do touch-ups on set. And even though cheek stains are known for being long-lasting to begin with, Martin knew she had to make actress Kristen Stewart's flushed-from-within glow last and last. To do this, she applied Benefit's The Porefessional ($29) as a base. Not only did this simple step make Kristen's stain virtually budge-proof, but it also helped her makeup withstand some of the more action-intensive scenes. As for that "lips red as blood and hair black as ebony" thing, all that takes is a trip to the makeup aisle and hair salon, respectively.

Disney Princess It Girl: Snow White's Pop Culture Evolution

We've all got fairy tales on the brain, as the very first Disney princess, Snow White, is having her moment in the sun.

We've all got fairy tales on the brain, as the very first Disney princess, Snow White, is having her moment in the sun. This year we've got not just one but two star-studded movies about Snow White, her evil stepmother, and those seven mining dwarfs. First up was the Lily Collins-Julia Roberts version Mirror Mirror, and starting today Kristen Stewart will take on the role in Snow White and the Huntsman.

While the flicks differ in many ways, they both portray the heroine as more of a modern woman who doesn't need a Prince Charming to sweep her off her feet. This is a far cry from the Disney version we're all familiar with, but Snow White has taken on many different forms since being brought to the masses by the Brothers Grimm in their 1812 German fairy tale Schneewittchen und die sieben Zwerge (Snow White and the Seven Dwarves). Find out more about the inspiration for their tale and how Snow White has been portrayed in literature, art, film, and TV over the years.
