Seeking a Friend For the End of the World Trailer: Steve Carell Finds Keira Knightley

In Seeking a Friend For the End of the World, Steve Carell plays Dodge, a man facing the reality that an asteroid is about the destroy the earth and he, along with everyone else, has to figure out what to do with the last three weeks of his life. For people like Patton Oswalt's character, it's sleeping with as man people as possible, but for regretful Dodge, it's love. When he meets his pixie-ish neighbor, played by Keira Knightley, she takes it upon herself to help Dodge find the girl that got away, if he helps her see her family before the world ends.

The trailer is very funny, considering its bleak subject matter (I giggled at Melanie Lynskey's character wearing all the clothes she never had a chance to wear), and Carell is the perfect leading man for the dark comedy. I'm especially curious to see what his chemistry with Knightley is like, and even though the title and what we see in the trailer implies it's just a friendship, it seems like something romantic must come up — the world is ending, after all. Keira Knightley had the company of her boyfriend, James Righton, yesterday between scenes on the LA set of Seeking a Friend For the End of the World. James and Keira hit craft services with her costar Steve Carell, and the trio were spotted laughing as they headed back to their trailers. Klaxons musician James has been a constant presence by Keira's side during the West Coast shoot. She's been able to spend her time off with him too, and they went on a scenic walk through Venice Beach two weeks ago. James will have to leave California, though, in order to perform with his band Saturday in Germany at the Southside Festival in Neuhausen. They then have dates in Russia and France before heading home to England for mid-August's Relentless Boardmasters show in Cornwall.

Keira Knightley was in LA yesterday shooting Seeking a Friend at the End of the World with her costar Steve Carell, but she also had the company of her new guy, James Righton, between takes. James was spotted grabbing lunch with Keira and hanging out by her trailer on the Malibu set. Keira Knightley and James Righton were first spotted together in April, when they enjoyed a Spring day together in London. The pair got together after Keira's friend, Alexa Chung, introduced them — Alexa's boyfriend, Alex Turner, is in the band the Arctic Monkeys, and is friends with the guys in James's group The Klaxons. Keira's working with Steve in California after a stint in England, where she starred in The Children's Hour in the West End and serving as a bridesmaid in her brother's Glasgow wedding last month.

Steve Carell and Keira Knightley teamed up on the set of Seeking a Friend for the End of the World today in LA. The dark comedy, which also costars Adam Brody and is being directed by his girlfriend, Lorene Scafaria, just started filming this week. Keira headed back to the states to get to work on the new project after playing bridesmaid in her brother Caleb's wedding late last month in Glasgow. She parted ways with her longtime real-life love, Rupert Friend, late last year but has a new leading man on screen in Steve. The movie features their characters as a star-crossed couple who find each other on the verge of the apocalypse. Steve recently exited The Office and also has Crazy Stupid Love coming out this Summer. Seeking a Friend for the End of the World also marks Keira's return to film following a stint on stage in London in The Children's Hour, a play that costarred Elisabeth Moss. The Coco Mademoiselle spokesmodel focused on that production and her role as the face of Chanel's perfumes for much of the year before signing on to star opposite funnyman Steve.
