New Music: Robert Smith Covers "Very Good Advice" For Alice

Getting excited for next month's release of Alice in Wonderland?

Getting excited for next month's release of Alice in Wonderland? The soundtrack, Almost Alice, comes out March 2, and today we get to hear one of the tracks. The Cure frontman Robert Smith covers the song "Very Good Advice" from the original Disney cartoon (here's the animated version).

A trippy complement to the movie, I think Smith's voice is a good fit for the film that lots of you said you were excited to see this year. Random thought: Smith looks a little like Tim Burton, no?

Pay-What-You-Want For Albums: Great Idea or "Idiotic"?

Remember back when Radiohead allowed listeners to pay whatever they wanted for the In Rainbows album?

Remember back when Radiohead allowed listeners to pay whatever they wanted for the In Rainbows album? That was pretty cool, right? Well, Robert Smith of the Cure disagrees. He told the following to Music Radar:

You can't allow other people to put a price on what you do, otherwise you don't consider what you do to have any value at all and that's nonsense. If I put a value on my music and no one's prepared to pay that, then more fool me, but the idea that the value is created by the consumer is an idiot plan, it can't work.

What do you think of this? Is the pay-what-you-want tactic foolish? Or a cool idea?

Halloween

FABTV: The Cure "Lullaby"

No video beats Michael Jackson's Thriller when it comes to Halloween time, and time in general — it is an eternal masterpiece.

No video beats Michael Jackson's Thriller when it comes to Halloween time, and time in general — it is an eternal masterpiece. But I did my best to dig up another spooky vid. Spooky bands . . . hmmm, The Cure! No one is the goth master like Robert Smith and his teased black hair, chalky skin, and trembling voice. This is my favorite Cure song, though I kinda hate the video — it has a spider theme and I hate spiders. So I apologize if you do too and are watching this with a Halloween hangover. Alas, it's an ill song, where Smith gets invaded by an elusive Spiderman character. Cobwebs and creepy crawlers abound — hope you had a Fab Halloween!

Can Robert Smith Cure Ashlee Simpson's Lack of Talent?

Just the other day, I was wondering, "What have The Cure been up to lately?"

Just the other day, I was wondering, "What have The Cure been up to lately?" I would have never in a million years guessed that the answer would be: working with Ashlee Simpson. But it sounds like that's what Cure frontman Robert Smith is up to.

According to info that EW.com gleaned at South by Southwest, Smith is one of an infinite number of collaborators helping Ashlee on her next album. Oh, Robert, say it ain't so! I know you might be a little bit bonkers, and I respect that, but I trusted that you knew the difference between good music and a punk pop wannabee. Right? Right?!?

Pitchfork is speculating that this might be an April Fool's joke, but oddly, Smith seems to be something of an Ashlee fan. He reportedly came to see her onstage in Chicago, prompting her to say she'd love to work with him. What, Ashlee, after getting all blond and girly you want to do the "punk" thing again? Good luck.

Unsurprisingly, Smith is one of many collaborators rumored to be working on Simpson's next album. Daddy Joe says she's also tapping Chad Hugo of The Neptunes, Timbaland, John Legend, and Keane's Tim Rice-Oxley.

Ashlee Simpson

Ashlee & the Cure

Ashlee is taking after her sister by wearing the latest and greatest trends of the season.

Ashlee is taking after her sister by wearing the latest and greatest trends of the season. Most recently she is sporting the hot Tom Ford sunglasses with her brand new LV bag. I love Louis but this bag has a bit too much going on for me. Ashlee is pairing a black T with wearing Chuck Taylors as if she is heading back to her punker days. Could it be because she wants to work with The Cure's lead singer, Robert Smith? Here's more:

Simpson, who plays ROXIE HART in the West End show, was thrilled when her idol came to watch her in the musical and admits she can envisage them making beautiful music together. She says, "Robert Smith from the Cure came to my last show in London, and I don't know if I was more excited about him or that it was the last show! "To work with Robert Smith would be an honour."

Well it's good to know that Ashlee hasn't completely lost her edge. For more pics of an almost edgy Ashlee just read more
