Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum have proved to be a formidable comedic duo at the box office, as 21 Jump Street debuted at No. 1 with $35 million — that's Tatum's second number-one movie of 2012 (the first was The Vow). The Lorax slid to second with $22.8 million, while John Carter clung to third with $13.5 million. Project X trailed in fourth with $4 million, and A Thousand Years finished off the top five with $3.7 million. Will Ferrell's Casa de mi Padre opened in ninth with $2.2 million in limited release.

In third place was Project X with $11.6 million, followed by the new horror release Silent House with $7,010,000 million. Nipping at its heels for the fourth spot was Act of Valor, with $7 million. New release A Thousand Words only reached sixth place with $6.4 million, while indie Friends With Kids opened at $2.2 million.

Family flicks proved to be lucrative once again at the box office, as The Lorax took in $70.7 million in its opening weekend. Not only is that the biggest debut from a Dr. Seuss film, but it's also the biggest opening weekend of 2012 so far. Trailing in second was Project X, which opened with $20.7 million. In third place was Act of Valor, which fell from the top spot and earned $13.7 million, followed by Safe House with $7.2 million. Tyler Perry's Good Deeds completed the top five with $7 million.
