We sat down with several of the show's stars at a recent press event in LA to uncover some of the secrets. Keegan Allen broke down his sudden switch to playing a villain, Shay Mitchell talked about fans' reactions, and Troian Bellisario spilled which of the four girls is most like her PLL character. Pretty Little Liars: Why You Shouldn't Be Surprised Toby Is on the A Team

A couple of the Pretty Little Liars, Troian Bellisario and Shay Mitchell, came to the TCA today with a notable member of the A team - Keegan Allen, who plays Toby - and Toby's A affiliation was the hot topic of the panel. The actors and executive producers addressed the bombshell of the current season and what the repercussions will be, but most importantly, one of the showrunners told us why Toby's being on the A team shouldn't have been such a shock. Read on for that and other fun tidbits from the Pretty Little Liars panel.

Don't worry, you weren't the only one who was shocked about the revelation that Toby is part of the A team, but executive producer Oliver Goldstick says it shouldn't have been so surprising. Goldstick said he had to remind the actors that Toby's "had an ax to grind" since season one, and that he still had a lot of anger toward the girls. "His darkness isn't coming out of nowhere," he said, and this is like coming full circle for the character.
Now that we know Toby's secret, exec producer Marlene King says Toby's relationship with Spencer will be a core storyline of the season. "It's a mind-blowing storyline we had a lot of fun with," she said. And Allen agreed, saying, "You will watch it and be so shocked and surprised." Not just in regard to his relationship with Spencer but also the other girls. Indeed; Troian Bellisario said that "Toby means so much to Spencer; he truly is the love of her life at this point." But it'll be hard for Emily too. Shay Mitchell added that "it will be harder for Emily because they have had that special connection" since season one.
Now that a supposedly good character has been revealed as being part of the A team, could any of the core liars be in on it, too? The actors would definitely like to be. Bellisario said, "We've all been kind of begging that since season one. . . . It's so much fun to be the villain, especially on our show, because there are so many directions they think of." Mitchell is also on board and has started "coming up with reasons for why they could be on the A team."
There are some fun film homages coming up, and King said that she directed an upcoming Misery-themed episode, while the season finale will pay homage to North by Northwest - another Hitchcock reference, if you're keeping score.

Pretty Little Liars' Janel Parrish Talks Must-Have Pieces For Any Fan

What's not to love about the trendy cute styles of the Pretty Little Liars cast? Whether you're clean and classic like Spencer, a risk-taker like Aria, sporty like Emily, or all about designer duds like Hanna, it's easy to see why loyal fans tune in each week to get a glimpse of their latest cool-girl fashions. Recently we chatted with actress Janel Parrish, who plays Mona, one of A's most stylish minions. Find out what she had to say about her personal and onscreen style, wardrobe fittings, and how to get the PLL look at home.

CelebStyle: How would you describe your personal style and how does it differ from Mona's look?
Janel Parrish: I would describe my style as funky chic. Not quite as glam as Mona. Mona is always super done up with tall heels and plenty of colorful accessories. I tend to be a little more grungy chic.

CS: Who is the show's wardrobe stylist and what does the wardrobe room look like?
JP: Our amazing stylist is Mandi Line. When you walk in the room, all you see are rows and rows of amazing clothes. We are so fortunate that our work is to play dress up all day. My favorite part of the day is seeing what Mandi has pulled. And since each of our characters have such unique style, she has her job cut out for her. I think without her even telling us we can predict which rack is for which character.

CS: How does a wardrobe fitting for the show go from start to finish?
JP: It's too fun. You feel like a doll. You just stand there and watch Mandi dress you up. She pulls the best outfits and dresses you in them, then decides how she wants to accessorize or tailor it so it fits just right. We start with going through the entire rack pulling looks we think work best. That narrows it down a bit. We then try things on. It is always best to use stuff that doesn’t need a ton of alterations. From there we edit down even more and take photos so we can coordinate all the characters in each scene so we don’t clash with each other. Once the outfit is selected it is time to accessorize.

CS: If a fan wanted to get the Pretty Little Liars look, what essential pieces would they need to buy?
JP: Definitely some killer heels, lots of jewelry, and a curling iron! If they start with some basics and play them up with accessories they will have a lot more to work with.

CS: Any funny wardrobe stories you can share from the set?
JP: There was definitely some tripping going on in the fashion show episode!

Pretty Little Liars' Janel Parrish Shares Details on the "Intense" Season Ahead For "A" and the Liars

Janel Parrish's Pretty Little Liars character Mona was finally unveiled as "A" on last season's final episode, and we recently sat down with the actress at PopSugar Studios in LA to talk about what's ahead this season now that the secret's out. Mona's big reveal was a long-awaited one for fans, and Janel told us the news was as much of a surprise to the cast as it was for the audience! She also said the show will pick up six months in the future, with Mona still locked up in a sanitarium, and that we can expect to see plenty of new connections made between characters we didn't even realize knew each other. Pretty Little Liars comes back for a third season on Tuesday, and we'll find out what happens in the aftermath of the big reveal of the villain "A."
