Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides premieres today, and this time around the pirates must face some sexy, sexy mermaids. In order to capture the mystical spirit of these mythical creatures, makeup artists used DuWop to bring out their ethereal good looks. Find out how they did it now.

Since it's May, I've kicked off my Summer movie preview series. After talking about the comedies, it's time to focus on what are usually the biggest blockbusters of the season: the action films. From superheroes to sci-fi to fantasy, I have the scoop on the action movies that you'll most want to check out in the next couple of months.
When we got to to see the first trailer for the fourth Pirates of the Caribbean film, On Stranger Tides, it felt like there was a little bit of the franchise's magic missing. Now we have trailer number two, and it's a bit more exciting than the first.
As expected, it has more of Johnny Depp's one-liners as Captain Jack Sparrow, along with some sexy sparring with costar Penelope Cruz. More importantly, we also get to see a bit more of the mermaid factor, and why they're such a big part of this sequel. One is needed to help the Captain Jack and his rival Blackbeard (Ian McShane) to get to The Fountain of Youth — the thin but interesting objective of the movie. If you love Johnny Depp, bright colors, and dream of vacations in warm climates, then shiver me timbers; you'll certainly love what OPI is releasing next. For Spring 2011 comes the brand's Brights Collection, featuring six limited-edition shades ($8) — and one trendy silver shatter — inspired by Depp's upcoming flick, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. "With shades ranging from sage and lavender to khaki gray and pastel pink, these colors are evocative of a warm, tropical setting, with a classic nautical influence," said OPI's Suzi Weiss-Fischmann. 2011 is now in full swing, and I'm already thinking ahead to all the movies that will be hitting theaters throughout the next 12 months. I've already given you my list of must sees, and I couldn't help but notice how many of those films are part of a bigger franchise. In fact, the 2011 film slate is peppered with a ton of sequels (not to mention franchise-starters like The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. From blockbusters like Twilight and Harry Potter to animated films to horror movies, check out some of 2011's most anticipated sequels, and tell me which ones you're excited about.
I can't put my finger on it, but it feels like something is missing from the trailer for Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. Don't get me wrong: I'm happy to see Johnny Depp back in his signature eyeliner to play Jack Sparrow (excuse me, that's Captain Jack Sparrow), but it doesn't look like there's a ton of magic in the fourth installment of the franchise. Jack embarks on yet another epic journey, this time without his sidekick Will (Orlando Bloom) and Will's sharp-tongued lady love (Keira Knightley). In their place, we have Sparrow's ex/possibly current love interest, Angelica (Penelope Cruz) and Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush), as Jack sets out to discover the fountain of youth.
Sure there are some familiar new faces (not to mention the introduction of some seductive mermaids), but even the preview's epic music isn't stirring new feelings of anticipation in my blood. Maybe I've still got a bad taste in my mouth from At World's End, but I was hoping for the latest installment to feel more fresh. Don't let that stop you from checking it out for yourself though. Well, yo ho ho, what have we here? It's the first photos from Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides! After giving us just a small taste of what's to come in the new Pirates saga at Comic-Con this year, Disney has finally released official pics from the film. In the stills, we get a closer peek at Jack Sparrow's newest companion, Angelica (Penelope Cruz), but it looks like Sparrow's up to his regular antics as well (jumping on carriages, being dragged by authorities — you know, the usual). Disney's Comic-Con panel wasn't just about Tron: Legacy. We also got a taste of what's to come in the next installment of Pirates of the Caribbean. In a cute teaser, Johnny Depp gives us a little pep talk in his full Jack Sparrow glory, promising "zombies, cutthroats, mermaids, and Penelope Cruz." It turns into a rant about Bloody Marys, but it's cute enough to give me hope that Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides could help me forget about At World's End.

>> Earlier this year, Gemma Ward was said to be considering studying theater at Yale, and it seems the career direction was right, if not the venue: Ward has reportedly been cast in the upcoming fourth installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean series: On Stranger Tides.
The film, which is set to hit theaters on May 20, 2011, stars Johnny Depp, Penelope Cruz, and Geoffrey Rush, and is set to begin filming in Hawaii this week. Ward has a small speaking part as a mermaid and won't shoot her scenes until August. Australia's The Daily Telegraph cites a friend saying: "Gemma's focus is definitely on acting. She's spent the past year studying the craft full time in New York." And Frockwriter confirmed with "an extremely well-placed business associate" that Ward has definitely signed on for a role in the film.
