Watch R. Kelly Make a Surprise Coachella Appearance With Phoenix

One of the biggest Coachella rumors making the rounds at the festival this weekend was that Phoenix would welcome a special musical guest to the stage during their Saturday night set — but no one guessed it would be R. Kelly. The band is releasing their album Bankrupt! this month, their first since 2009's Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix. The buzz around the festival grounds was that Daft Punk might be making a surprise appearance during Phoenix's show. Daft Punk is also on the verge of releasing a long-awaited album, and the groups have surprised fans before, playing during the encore of Phoenix's Oct. 20, 2010, Madison Square Garden show.

However, after Phoenix's set ended around 12:30 a.m., the stage went dim for a couple of minutes before Kelly's voice soared out into the night and fans started rushing the stage. Kelly and Phoenix front man Thomas Mars joined forces for a spirited duet, blending "Ignition (Remix)" with the music from Phoenix's track "1901." The performance wasn't the only collaboration in the desert yesterday. Solange Knowles also took the stage to sing with The XX. To watch the Phoenix and Kelly performance, just keep reading.

New Music: Phoenix's "Love Like a Sunset, Part 3"

French alt rockers Phoenix released one of my favorite albums of last year (and yours too), the Grammy-winning Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix.

French alt rockers Phoenix released one of my favorite albums of last year (and yours too), the Grammy-winning Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix. Though there's no new album on the horizon just yet, the fans among us get to hear a previously unreleased track today. "Love Like a Sunset, Part 3" is a smooth, techno-y affair, with lead singer Thomas Mars withholding his vocals until the four-minute mark of the five-minute song. If you're a Phoenix fan, you'll appreciate the between-album goody from the band. Hear the song when you read more

That's a wrap, folks!
Coachella 2010 Performances from Sunday's Shows, Including Phoenix and Gorillaz

That's a wrap, folks! Coachella ended its run with a bang on Sunday with big-name acts like Phoenix and Gorillaz. I'm still coming off my high from a whirlwind weekend, where I not only saw people like Jay-Z (and Beyonce!) perform live, but I also got a chance to meet several celebrity fans, like Rachel Bilson and Katy Perry — and frankly, I'm exhausted. So without much further ado, let's recap five of the big acts from Day 3! (And don't forget to check out my recaps from the other two days of the festival.)

What Is the Best Indie Album of 2009?

Some of these gifted artists may be bigger than what you consider "indie," but they all captured the spirit of the genre in '09.

Some of these gifted artists may be bigger than what you consider "indie," but they all captured the spirit of the genre in '09. It's hard to pinpoint why they're just so cool, but they make it seem effortless. Personally speaking, I've been listening to Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix by Phoenix and It's Blitz! by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs on a repeat loop, but there were plenty of other albums to choose from. Which one is your favorite?

FABTV: Phoenix, "Lisztomania" (SF Brat Pack Mash Up)

I feel a smile coming on .

I feel a smile coming on . . . this brand spanking new Phoenix video was filmed in my hometown, San Francisco, over the past couple Sundays. It's fresher than fresh. The kids are local talent, and one of my friends is even one of the danceaholics in it — hi Trish! (She's the vibrant redhead with the cool printed tee). It's so spirited. The dance moves may look familiar — an ode to one of the best scenes in The Breakfast Club. And the shots of neon garb hone in on the awesome '80s vibe. Smile on.
