One Shot

Tom Cruise was back to work yesterday on the Pittsburgh set of his latest film One Shot. The actor took a break from shooting over the weekend and spent a relaxing day with Katie Holmes and Suri at an ice skating rink. Katie and Suri reunited with Tom on location following her recent promotional duties in NYC and LA on behalf of her Jack and Jill.

Tom has his own soon-to-be released holiday movie heading to the big screen. He stars in next month's Mission Impossible — Ghost Protocol, which is getting a big promotional push from the film's studio, Paramount, over the Thanksgiving holiday. You'll be able to check out Tom and his costars, Simon Pegg, and Jeremy Renner, in 30 second and 60 second TV commercials during select NHL games on Thursday. Fans around the globe can see Tom in action when the entire Mission Impossible movie catalogue is available to rent for $2.99 per-film through Facebook.

Tom Cruise logged a late one on the Pittsburgh set of One Shot last night. He's working on the big screen adaptation of the popular Jack Reacher novels, written by Lee Childs, alongside his British leading lady Rosamund Pike. There has been a great deal of controversy over Tom being cast as Jack due to the height difference between the actor and the character. Tom Cruise is sensitive about the criticism, and recently said in a magazine, "I'm very sensitive to it. This is Lee's book and Lee's character. Him giving me his blessing is what made me do it. If he hadn't then I wouldn't have done it."

Another of Tom's anticipated action projects is Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol, which is out around the holiday season on Dec. 21. The new MI4 trailer shows Tom in all his movie star glory, doing crazy stunts in his last outing as Ethan Hunt.

Yesterday Katie and Suri visited Tom, who was all smiles upon their arrival. Tom's roles have taken the threesome around the globe for the last year. His next project, an untitled movie based on a graphic novel, pairs Tom with The Help's Jessica Chastain. Production for Tom and Jessica is schedule to start later this year, which means a busy rest of 2011 for Tom with Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol arriving in theaters Dec. 21.

Suri Cruise held on to Katie Holmes's hand today as the pair visited Tom Cruise on the Pittsburgh set of his latest movie, One Shot. Suri toted her purse and a baby doll as she and Katie stopped by to see Tom, who seemed in good spirits during his workday. Tom has been driving around in both police cars and sports cars as he shoots the action movie, while the girls keep busy exploring Pittsburgh's museums and shops. Tom's dancing, rather than his driving, skills are currently making headlines. A video featuring Tom in a wedding dance-off is out, and in the clip, Tom busts out his best version of the Worm! The moment was captured on camera at a wedding in Palm Springs last weekend, before he, Katie, and Suri headed back to PA. The three will likely be back on the West Coast together in the coming months, however, as he promotes December's Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol. The latest installment in the franchise took Tom around the world last Fall and Winter, shooting primarily in Prague and Vancouver, and Katie and Suri often traveled with him as he reprised his role as Ethan Hunt.

He got started on the movie Wednesday after popping up in NYC with a new look at the beginning of the week. Tom cut his hair for the role of an ex-Army cop investigating a sniper shooting. Filming in Pennsylvania means he'll spend some time away from wife Katie Holmes, who has been hanging out in LA; though, the duo seems to make their busy schedules work. Katie and Suri visited Tom in Miami while he was shooting Rock of Ages recently, and the girls also traveled to Canada during production on Mission Impossible 4. Katie and Suri weren't the only ones showing love for Tom on MI4. Director Brad Bird says Tom ruined him for other actors, since Mr. Cruise was all about doing his own stunts as Ethan Hunt.

Katie Holmes flashed a smile yesterday when she left the Maxfield shop in LA. She was chatting on the phone as well, possibly with her husband Tom Cruise who's across the country in Pittsburgh at the moment. Tom's in Pennsylvania getting to work on his new film One Shot. The movie, in which Tom plays the character Jack Reacher from Lee Childs's popular book series, may be the first in a new franchise. The picture already seems to include some of Tom's patented stunt work, as he was behind the wheel of a vintage car yesterday. Many fans of the books were upset that Tom, who's under six feet tall, was playing the supposedly massive character of Jack. Lee Childs recently defended Tom, saying, "I wasn't surprised [by Cruise's casting] because this was on the cards for a very long time. . . . We've been dealing with his people for six years. Obviously, Tom Cruise doesn't match the physical description of Reacher in the books, but the movie is not going to match the book anyway. More than that though, which actor does match Reacher physically? What people forget is that Tom Cruise is quite possibly the best actor of his generation."

Tom plays an ex-Army cop who is sent to investigate a sniper shooting in the heartland and lopped off his previously lengthy locks to ready for the role. Before getting to work on the action film in Pennsylvania, Tom spent several months down south in Florida, where he was playing a musician in Rock of Ages. Tom let his hair go long while he was busy portraying the tattooed singer. His wife, Katie Holmes, gave his edgier look her stamp of approval at the time. Katie and Suri visited Miami several times to catch up with Tom during the shoot, and the family took advantage of his recent break between projects to hang out at their homes in LA and NYC.
