Music Video: OK Go Puts Their Spin on The Muppet Show Theme Song

Jason Segel's upcoming movie The Muppets isn't just reintroducing us to some favorite childhood characters, the soundtrack is also re-imagining the puppets' old songs via current artists.

Jason Segel's upcoming movie The Muppets isn't just reintroducing us to some favorite childhood characters, the soundtrack is also re-imagining the puppets' old songs via current artists. OK Go gets the honors of covering the theme song of the beloved Muppet Show, and for their video, the band mates meet up with the Muppets for a colorful collaboration that includes references to previous OK Go videos. Most of our favorites pop up here, but it's the ending that's really fun. Watch, and then tell me how excited you are to see the movie in November.

OK Go Sends a Video Message With HTML5

OK Go's habit of creating clever music videos helped make them Internet viral video darlings, and they're certainly not going to start resting on their laurels anytime soon.

OK Go's habit of creating clever music videos helped make them Internet viral video darlings, and they're certainly not going to start resting on their laurels anytime soon. The band's new video for the song "All Is Not Lost," a collaboration with HTML5, Google Chrome, and the dance troupe Pilobolus, gives viewers a kaleidoscopic dance performance of the song in both the video and the browser if viewed in Chrome. We recommend the Chrome viewing, as you can also create a personalized message to be embedded within the video and watch how the browser adjusts itself in tune to the music.

Beyond the video's incredible choreography and technology, the band uses the theme of the song to send support to the people of Japan in the wake of this year's earthquake and tsunami. Viewing the video in Chrome is a must, but we do have the "old-fashioned" music video of human dance kaleidoscope after the break.

Fun Music Video: OK Go's "This Too Shall Pass"

Anybody who's a fan of the board game Mouse Trap and the band OK Go is so about to have the best day ever: The band has just released a music video for "This Too Shall Pass" from their album Of the Blue Colour of the Sky, and it might just be the coolest video ever.

It's a grandly fun ride, kicking off with a domino effect that triggers a contraption of golf balls, marbles, ropes and pulleys (told you it was like Mouse Trap. Or the opening scene in Pee-wee's Big Adventure). The visual good time is perfectly matched to the rich, upbeat flourish of the song, which, thanks to this quirky video, is my new favorite from the album. Stay tuned for the big finish!

What to Download: New Music Today

We've covered the most Netflix-worthy DVDs of the week, but it's also a big day for music releases.

We've covered the most Netflix-worthy DVDs of the week, but it's also a big day for music releases. Vampire Weekend's Contra officially hits stores (I'm talking "officially" — not all of those online leaks), along with OK Go's latest. I'm taking a look at both albums, but Heidi Montag's debut Superficial hits iTunes today, too.

(Don't forget to check out the Music Review Group. If you submit your own writeup, I may even feature your thoughts on the site!)

English-major rock returns: Vampire Weekend got a lot of deserved attention for its debut album two years ago, so the pressure for followup Contra to be as good is high.

"Horchata" and "California English" sound like logical progressions of the band's sound but nothing shockingly different. Those looking for a departure should queue up "Giving Up the Gun" and "I Think U R a Contra" for rare slow treats, but my prediction for the catchy standout single — the "Oxford Comma" of the group — is "Diplomat's Son."

Pop with a cool twist: You're probably most familiar with OK Go for their treadmill-happy video for "Here It Goes Again." On their latest album Of the Blue Colour of the Sky, the guys deliver a similarly upbeat feel mixed with a dash of swagger thanks to singer Damian Kulash's falsetto. Eighties electro-synth pops up a few times (I noticed it most on "End Love"), and the '60s get due recognition too with the psychedelic, trippy feel of "Back From Kathmandu." My favorite off the album, however, is "WTF?" which channels Prince. It's an absolute must.
