Showtime Axes United States of Tara, Renews Nurse Jackie

Well, this is a bit surprising: Showtime is pulling the plug on United States of Tara.

Well, this is a bit surprising: Showtime is pulling the plug on United States of Tara. The third season of the Toni Collette comedy, which is currently airing on the network, will be its last. Meanwhile, Nurse Jackie has been renewed for a fourth season, along with freshman series The Borgias. United States of Tara earned good ratings and critical acclaim out of the gate (not to mention award season love), but audiences have been dropping off since season two. Will you miss Tara and her wacky slew of personalities?

What Is the Best Cable TV Comedy of 2010?

Major networks are always churning out sitcoms, but sometimes you have to dig a little deeper to get to the really funny stuff.

Major networks are always churning out sitcoms, but sometimes you have to dig a little deeper to get to the really funny stuff. Let's face it: on cable, writers are able to get away with more indecency and dark humor (prime example: It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia). These series definitely pushed the proverbial envelope this year and had us laughing hard. Which is your 2010 favorite?

On Tuesday, the third annual Showtime House opened its doors in Manhattan, showcasing high design and cutting-edge interiors inspired by the network's original series Californication, Dexter, Nurse Jackie, United States of Tara, Weeds, The Big C, and The Borgias. It's open to the public on Saturdays 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Oct. 27. Tickets are $15 and all proceeds benefit Harlem Children's Zone.

I got in touch with the stellar group of interior designers and architects responsible for this year's inspired interiors and asked them each a couple questions about how their rooms came together. Check out this slideshow to read the designers' responses and get a peek at all of the fabulous rooms!

Which Show Should Win the Emmy For Best Comedy Series?

I'm all geared up for the Emmys on Sunday, and you guys seem like you are too, making great predictions for the winners in my Emmy breakdowns and on my ballot (fill it out now for a chance to win an iPad!).

I'm all geared up for the Emmys on Sunday, and you guys seem like you are too, making great predictions for the winners in my Emmy breakdowns and on my ballot (fill it out now for a chance to win an iPad!). The last category that I want your input on is best comedy.

Will it be a newcomer, like Glee, Modern Family, or Nurse Jackie? Reigning champ 30 Rock could bring it home a fourth time, while The Office hasn't once since 2006, and Curb Your Enthusiasm has been up six times for the honor but has never taken it home. Who do you want to win best comedy on Emmy night? Leave your vote (and comment explaining why) below!

TV Tonight: Nurse Jackie and United States of Tara Return

It's sure to be a night of ladies behaving badly: Showtime's Nurse Jackie and The United States of Tara are back tonight for their respective second season premieres.

It's sure to be a night of ladies behaving badly: Showtime's Nurse Jackie and The United States of Tara are back tonight for their respective second season premieres. Jackie Peyton, R.N. will deal with the fact she learned at the end of last season — that her husband has become friends with the guy she's seeing on the side. Oof. What I'm looking forward to most, though, is Peter Facinelli as the arrogant Doctor Cooper.

Meanwhile, over in Tara's neck of the woods, we can look forward to the exciting things that star Toni Collette and write Diablo Cody mentioned at the Winter TCA: more love interests, steaminess, and a new alter for Tara named Shoshanna. I can't wait to see how she's integrated to the complicated show, which Collette won an Emmy for this past September.
