End of Watch

Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Peña are partners in this gritty, realistic police thriller from Training Day screenwriter David Ayer. Set on the dangerous streets of Los Angeles, the movie follows the officers on their daily rounds as they become immersed in the center of a deadly drug ring. Gyllenhaal and Peña are both excellent in the film, and though their performances are worth seeing, the faint of heart (and those who get queasy with handheld camera footage) might want to avoid this raw drama. The DVD includes deleted scenes, director commentary, and several featurettes.

The Paperboy

Director Lee Daniels adapted this mystery novel for the big screen, with star power from Nicole Kidman, Zac Efron, Matthew McConaughey, and John Cusack. Investigative reporter Ward (McConaughey) enlists the help of his brother Jack (Efron) to prove a death-row inmate (Cusack) has been falsely accused of murdering the local sheriff. Kidman picked up SAG and Golden Globe nominations for her sultry performance as the woman in love with the inmate. A featurette, interviews, and the theatrical trailer come with the DVD.

John Krasinski plays a married man on the edge of an affair with a young artist (Olivia Thirlby) in Nobody Walks, opening this week. Fellow new releases include Alex Cross, otherwise known as the movie that Matthew Fox got scary muscular for. On the lighter side, you'll finally get a chance to see John Hawkes's amazing performance as a man who employs a sex therapist (Helen Hunt) to help him overcome his unique restraints in The Sessions. The LA premiere of Nobody Walks brought out a star-studded crowd last night, including the film's writer Lena Dunham and star Olivia Thirlby. Malin Akerman, wearing Hugo Boss, also joined Nicky Hilton and Isabel Lucas. Malin, who's expecting her first child with husband of five years Roberto Zincone, posed for photographers before heading inside the screening. Malin announced that she's expecting late last week, and didn't waste much time before celebrating at Saturday's Environmental Media Awards alongside Ian Somerhalder, Jessica Alba, and Emily VanCamp.

The debut went on without the film's leading man John Krasinski, who was spotted in London over the weekend attending his sister-in-law Felicty Blunt's wedding to Stanley Tucci.

Nobody Walks Trailer: John Krasinski Has a Wandering Eye

Infidelity is at the center of the trailer for Nobody Walks, an indie drama cowritten by Ry Russo-Young and Lena Dunham.

Infidelity is at the center of the trailer for Nobody Walks, an indie drama cowritten by Ry Russo-Young and Lena Dunham. In the film, John Krasinski and Rosemarie DeWitt play Peter and Julie, a married couple who are each tempted by other people. For Peter, the object of his extramarital admiration is Martine (Olivia Thirlby), a young filmmaker who's staying with Peter and his family while he helps her with a project. The free-spirited artist isn't the only threat to Peter's marriage; his wife, Julie, is a therapist who may be getting too close to a patient (Justin Kirk), and it's unclear whether Peter and Julie's relationship will be able to survive.

It's a little disconcerting seeing Krasinski as a man on the verge of an affair, but I do like seeing him out of The Office and involved in a drama. On the same note, I'm also curious to check out another project from Dunham after enjoying the first season of Girls so much, especially since this seems more mature. Nobody Walks premiered at this year's Sundance Film Festival, but you can check it out yourself on Oct. 12 and watch the trailer after the jump.

John Krasinski Goes Indie For Nobody Walks

Jim Halpert is lining up his next vacation from The Office: John Krasinski is in talks to star in Nobody Walks, an indie drama written by Lena Dunham.

Jim Halpert is lining up his next vacation from The Office: John Krasinski is in talks to star in Nobody Walks, an indie drama written by Lena Dunham. The film focuses on a family and young artist who disrupts their lives after her weekend stay turns permanent. Rosemarie DeWitt and Olivia Thirlby are also on board; though, there's no confirmation on who's playing whom, my guess is Krasinski and DeWitt lead the family with Thirlby as the artist.

Lately, Krasinski's movie career seems to be taking a direction toward bigger studio films, like next month's Something Borrowed, but I'm eager to see him back in an indie, since I loved him in Away We Go.
