From Nap Time to Me Time: How Supermom Niki Taylor Does It All

With two little ones in the house, supermodel and mother Niki Taylor looks just as good — if not better — than in her days gracing the covers of Sports Illustrated and Vogue.

With two little ones in the house, supermodel and mother Niki Taylor looks just as good — if not better — than in her days gracing the covers of Sports Illustrated and Vogue. A mother of four — twins Jake and Hunter, 18; Ciel, 3; and Rex, 11 months — Niki still manages to balance a healthy, busy lifestyle and take the time to chat with us! Among her secrets: a go-to breakfast shake, a few beauty standbys, and some much-deserved mama time. Today, as a model and mother, Niki is helping women get healthy and live in the moment. Here, she tells us exactly how she does it!

LilSugar: As a mom, how has your fitness routine changed?
Niki Taylor: Well, since I don’t have a lot of time, I wake up an hour before my kids. I find that's the only time I can grab a workout — usually a walk or a run. I have a treadmill, but if it's nice outside in Nashville, I prefer to do my workout there. When I get home, I like to have my Optimal Solutions protein shake. It's really simple: a chocolate mix mixed with skim milk, and a cup of coffee. And then I get ready for the rest of my day!

LS: Speaking of healthy meals, what is your go-to, kid-friendly dinner on busy days?
NT: If we're going to have a really busy day, I have a crockpot day. I actually use the crock-pot pretty much every night. I have a recipe book I pull from, but you can make it pretty much as hearty and as healthy as you want.

LS: How do you like to unwind at the end of a long week?
NT: On Sundays everyone takes off. We like to go to church, come home, have a nice lunch, and hopefully everyone takes a nap: my 3-year-old and the baby. Then we [she and husband Burney Lamar] try to catch up on shows we've recorded through out week: Revenge, Nashville, and anything on the ID Channel!

Niki Taylor on Personal Style, Modeling, and the Most Important Thing You Can Do

Niki Taylor landed her first cover — on Seventeen, when she was just 14. For much of the '90s, Niki Taylor was always in a magazine, from Vogue to Sports Illustrated. However, she endured personal tragedy when her sister Krissy died suddenly in 1995 at the age of 17, and in 2001 Niki was in a severe car accident that left the supermodel in a coma for six weeks. If you didn't know, yesterday was World Blood Donor Day, but Niki Taylor would be the first to tell you that everyday should be blood donor day. Today, the mother of three, who is pregnant with her fourth child, talks about her supermodel years, her personal style, and why you should sport a zebra print bandage.

FabSugar: What were some of your favorite experiences in modeling?
Niki Taylor: I have gotten to travel all over the world and meet so many wonderful and interesting people. I think what has been most powerful for me though, is that modeling and being in the public eye has allowed me to give back through initiatives like the Nexcare give program with the American Red Cross.
FS: Why blood?
NT: After receiving 100 units of donor blood after a life-threatening car accident in 2001, the importance of donating blood became so real and so significant for me. This year, Nexcare is handing out free give bandages, and they are extra chic with fashion-inspired designs that show how helping save a life is always in style. As a supporter of blood donation and a lover of fashion, I think the bandages are a perfect way to encourage people to get out there and donate.

Niki Taylor Discusses Motherhood and Her Fourth Pregnancy

As a child of the '80s, my teen (and preteen) years were spent flipping through magazines with Niki Taylor on the cover.

As a child of the '80s, my teen (and preteen) years were spent flipping through magazines with Niki Taylor on the cover. I can still envision the Seventeen cover with the teen model sharing the page with her beautiful sister. Today, the 36-year-old model and Celebrity Apprentice contestant is expecting her fourth child and speaking out about the importance of donating blood to the American Red Cross. FabSugar recently spoke with Niki and asked her about motherhood and staying stylish while pregnant.

LilSugar: Now that you’re expecting your fourth child, can you share any style secrets on how you stay fit and looking so gorgeous?
Niki Taylor: I’m a naturally outdoorsy person and love to be fit and active, so I definitely try to maintain that during pregnancy. I do indulge in cravings though — you have to!

LS: What’s the thing you worry about most as a mother?
NT: I think it’s almost a universal bond between mothers that we just want our kids to be happy and healthy. It’s hard as a mother not worry about every decision you make when it comes to your children, but at some point you have to let go a little bit and have faith that you've given them the guidance and tools they need to do what makes them happy.

LS: With your work and three kids, soon to be four, how do you find balance, and how do you decompress?
NT: All of our schedules are so busy, so we work really hard to set aside specific time to spend together as a family and just enjoy each other’s company. I also can’t overemphasize the importance of date night! My husband and I cherish our time together, even if it’s just a lunch alone together in the middle of the week to reconnect and decompress.
