Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides

Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) returns for another adventure at sea in the fourth installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. This time around, Jack is dragged aboard Blackbeard's ship by his former flame, Angelica (Penelope Cruz), and forced to set out with the crew on a quest for the fountain of youth. Despite the onscreen chemistry between Depp and Cruz, the movie drags on with too many action scenes. DVD extras include a blooper reel and audio commentary by director Rob Marshall.

Bad Teacher

Cameron Diaz heads to the classroom as Elizabeth, a foul-mouthed middle school teacher whose main concern is saving up enough money to get a boob job, so that she can lure a new sugar daddy. She eventually sets her eyes on fellow teacher Scott (Justin Timberlake), overlooking the advances of a gym teacher played by Jason Segel. While it's refreshing to see Diaz take on a bad-girl role, the movie's plot is weak and the film is ultimately forgettable. The extras on the DVD include two featurettes and an interactive yearbook.

As expected, Transformers: Dark of the Moon dominated the Fourth of July Weekend, taking in a whopping $97.4 million to secure first place (the film has grossed over $162 million since opening last Wednesday). It didn't just win the crown though; the movie also set a new record for the biggest Fourth of July weekend opening ever, and the biggest opening of 2011.

Last week's champ, Cars 2, settled for a distant second with $25.1 million, while Bad Teacher dipped to third place, taking in $14.1 million. Tom Hanks's romantic comedy Larry Crowne made its debut in fourth with $13 million, followed by new teen flick Monte Carlo, which rounded out the top five with $7.6 million.

Leighton Meester and Selena Gomez Get Dressed Up to Promote Monte Carlo

Leighton Meester and Selena Gomez arrived separately for the Monte Carlo press junket in NYC today, and their costar Katie Cassidy was also on hand at the Ritz Carlton hotel.

Leighton Meester and Selena Gomez arrived separately for the Monte Carlo press junket in NYC today, and their costar Katie Cassidy was also on hand at the Ritz Carlton hotel. Selena and Katie already started promoting the project at last week's Monte Carlo premiere, though Leighton couldn't join them on the red carpet since she was busy filming I Hate You, Dad in Boston. The girls did have the support of Andie MacDowell as well as Selena's boyfriend, Justin Bieber, however. It's been a big week for Selena since her album When the Sun Goes Down was released on Tuesday and Monte Carlo hits theaters tomorrow. Leighton has also been juggling her acting and singing careers, and she recently played a sold-out show in LA.

Justin Bieber Steps Out to Support Girlfriend Selena Gomez at Her Monte Carlo Premiere

Selena Gomez had a special guest, boyfriend Justin Bieber, along for a red carpet screening of her new movie Monte Carlo in NYC last night.

Selena Gomez had a special guest, boyfriend Justin Bieber, along for a red carpet screening of her new movie Monte Carlo in NYC last night. The hot young couple didn't pose together on the red carpet, though Justin did admire Selena and her costars in the poster as he headed in to watch her latest big-screen venture. Selena sported a pretty blue gown for the event, and she met up with costar Katie Cassidy and Andie MacDowell for a few photos. Justin and Selena have managed to find time together despite their crazy schedules. Selena has both Monte Carlo and her new album, When the Sun Goes Down, coming out next week. Selena's career demands were partially responsible for her brief hospitalization earlier in the month, but she still has a big smile on her face whenever she steps out to greet her fans. Justin had his own crazy day in Manhattan yesterday, when things got a little too intense at his fragrance launch. Justin Bieber's bodyguards had a misunderstanding with a plain clothed cop. Thankfully, it all ended up OK, and the teen heartthrob was looking typically stylish while out to cheer on his real-life leading lady Selena.

Monte Carlo Trailer: Selena Gomez and Leighton Meester's European Vacation

Ready for some movie-inspired vacation envy?

Ready for some movie-inspired vacation envy? The trailer for Monte Carlo, with its views of Paris and the titular destination, might induce it. Selena Gomez plays Grace, a high school girl who just wants to get away to France with her BFFs Meg and Emma (Leighton Meester and Katie Cassidy). The trip isn't all they dreamed, until they run into rich girl Cordelia, who happens to be the spitting image of Grace. In the grand tradition of dual roles and movie switcheroos, Grace and Cordelia trade places so that the girls can have the glam vacation they wanted and Cordelia can let her hair down as a regular girl. The usual hijinks ensue, which of course includes some cute boys (e.g., Cory Monteith and his single line). Watch the cute if cheesy preview when you read more

Selena Gomez, Katie Cassidy, and Leighton Meester Kick Off Summer With Bikini Time on the Beach!

The girls of Monte Carlo broke out their swimsuits today to continue filming in Monaco.

The girls of Monte Carlo broke out their swimsuits today to continue filming in Monaco. Selena Gomez was in a blue bikini, while Katie Cassidy lounged in a printed number. Leighton Meester was the sole actress to venture out in a one-piece, still showing more skin than during her recent possibly romantic stroll in Paris. The trio headed to the sea after time in the French capital working on the movie with Glee's Cory Monteith. The girls are staying busy with their Summer project, but their hours in front of the camera still look like a suspiciously good time.

Cory Monteith and Katie Cassidy Make Big-Screen Moves

Cory Monteith and Katie Cassidy are kind of on opposite sides of the TV success spectrum right now — Monteith has the super-anticipated Spring premiere of Glee coming up next week, while Cassidy's Melrose Place is teetering on the brink of cancellation.

Cory Monteith and Katie Cassidy are kind of on opposite sides of the TV success spectrum right now — Monteith has the super-anticipated Spring premiere of Glee coming up next week, while Cassidy's Melrose Place is teetering on the brink of cancellation. But the movie world is another story: both actors are set to star alongside Selena Gomez and Leighton Meester in the upcoming film Monte Carlo.

The movie centers on Gomez as she flies to Monte Carlo for a charity auction after being mistaken for a socialite and gets into a pickle when a million-dollar necklace is stolen. Cassidy plays her friend, and Monteith plays Cassidy's boyfriend. The film doesn't exactly sound like a future Oscar winner, but I'm still happy to see both actors — whom I love in their respective shows — picking up new parts. Here's hoping they won't be totally typecast.

Do You Prefer to See Nicole Kidman in Comedies or Dramas?

The recent news about Nicole Kidman's romantic comedy Monte Carlo got me thinking about her range in past movies.

The recent news about Nicole Kidman's romantic comedy Monte Carlo got me thinking about her range in past movies. I'm curious to see her try another romantic comedy, though I've often loved her most in dramatic movies. Do you think she should stick to comedy or drama?
