Guy Pearce Has More Racy Comments About His Kate Winslet Love Scenes

Mildred Pierce's leading lady Kate Winslet snagged an Emmy for the miniseries tonight, and so did her costar Guy Pearce, who used most of his acceptance speech to gush about his love scenes with her.

Mildred Pierce's leading lady Kate Winslet snagged an Emmy for the miniseries tonight, and so did her costar Guy Pearce, who used most of his acceptance speech to gush about his love scenes with her. When he stopped by the press room, he had even more to say about his racy comments, what his wife will think, and wanting to know how he stacks up next to Leonardo DiCaprio.

  • On what his wife thinks of his speech: "I'm not sure yet. I haven't asked her. She probably thought it was funny. I'm sure she'll tell me when I get home."
  • On why the sex scenes with Winslet weren't awkward: "Look, because it was Kate, yes, we did have a good time. We had a good laugh really. They're nerve-wracking to have to do, but she made it really easy, I have to say."
  • On who gave him love scene advice: "I don't know that anyone has given me advice about love scenes. Maybe I need some, I'm not sure."
  • On whether Winslet has told him how his kissing skills compare with Leonardo DiCaprio's: "She hasn't. I keep asking her but she refuses to tell me, so there's obviously some bad news in there. She might tell me tonight if I get her drunk enough."

Kate Winslet Brings Back-to-Back Sexy Looks to the Venice Film Festival

Kate Winslet stepped out for her second day of Venice Film Festival appearances today.

Kate Winslet stepped out for her second day of Venice Film Festival appearances today. She donned black shorts and a blazer for this morning's Mildred Pierce photocall and got super sexy in a skintight white dress for the show's red carpet premiere this afternoon. Kate switched gears to her HBO miniseries after promoting her movie project Carnage at the festival yesterday. During press for the Roman Polanski-directed piece, Kate Winslet shared her experience projectile vomiting for the cameras, saying "It was hysterical." Kate's small-screen costar Evan Rachel Wood was also pulling double duty since she did press for The Ides of March with George Clooney during opening day earlier this week.

3 Reasons I'm Excited For Tonight's Premiere of Mildred Pierce

Mildred Pierce premieres tonight, and ever since the trailer premiered last September, I've been eagerly awaiting the opportunity to feast my eyes on the new miniseries.

Mildred Pierce premieres tonight, and ever since the trailer premiered last September, I've been eagerly awaiting the opportunity to feast my eyes on the new miniseries. For one, it's on HBO, which is known for its above par programming, but then you also have a cast of Oscar winners and director Todd Haynes. Simply put, it seems like a TV slam dunk. But if I had to pinpoint the reasons behind my anticipation, it really comes down to three things.

  • Kate Winslet. Who doesn't love her? Winslet plays the title character in the miniseries, which means she carries the majority of the work on her shoulders — she's reportedly in nearly every scene. But as her costars will attest, if anyone can handle the task, it's her. Winslet is an actress with such range and depth, and I can't wait to see her big screen presence on the small screen for a change.
  • The rich story. Whereas the original Mildred Pierce film with Joan Crawford added a murder to the story for a more film noir feel, this version supposedly sticks close to James M. Cain's 1941 novel. That means the story will mainly focus on Mildred and her relationship with daughter Veda (Evan Rachel Wood), so it's more about character development and the growth of Mildred as she fights the hardships of the Depression and single motherhood. That should definitely give Winslet plenty of opportunity to shine.
  • The styling! The series opens in 1931, and early critics are saying the details of the era are spot on. I can't wait to see the costume looks and hairdos they whip up for Winslet and Wood to wear. I'm sure they'll provide BellaSugar and FabSugar with plenty of inspiration.

The miniseries kicks off tonight at 9 p.m. on HBO. Are you going to tune in?

Side Tables Inspired by the Set Design of Mildred Pierce

Kate Winslet in a sexy '30s-era period drama?

Kate Winslet in a sexy '30s-era period drama? Sign me up. This Sunday, the first of the five-part miniseries Mildred Pierce debuts on HBO — I don't know about you, but I'll be glued to my set. Not only does the costume design look gorgeous, but the sets do as well.
I'm particularly loving the Moroccan-influenced side table that Veda (played by Evan Rachel Wood) is resting her ashtray and glass of tomato juice upon. Inspired, I decided to round up some tables that were similar in sensibility, but would work beautifully in a modern home. My absolute, hands-down favorite is the De La Espada Luna Tray Table ($1,300), but there are plenty of beauties to choose from. Check them out below.

Video: Kate Winslet Brings Glamour and a Positive Attitude to the Mildred Pierce Premiere!

Kate Winslet revealed her tips on how to be a great leading lady — stay positive and keep smiling!

Kate Winslet revealed her tips on how to be a great leading lady — stay positive and keep smiling! — at last night's Mildred Pierce premiere in NYC. The Oscar winner looked stunning in a Stella McCartney dress with a sheer polka dot sleeve, as she joined Evan Rachel Wood and the rest of the cast on the red carpet. Her costars had nothing but lovely things to say about the hard-working actress, but Evan also spilled about the other Hollywood big name she's working with at the moment: George Clooney!

Kate Winslet Happily Leads the Way at Her Mildred Pierce Premiere

Kate Winslet was in a half-sheer Stella McCartney number yesterday for the NYC debut of her new HBO miniseries Mildred Pierce.

Kate Winslet was in a half-sheer Stella McCartney number yesterday for the NYC debut of her new HBO miniseries Mildred Pierce. Other members of the network's family, like Boardwalk Empire's Steve Buscemi and How to Make It in America's Bryan Greenberg, came out to show their support. Kate also had her costars on hand, including her fellow Oscar-winner Melissa Leo, a fresh-from-Michigan Evan Rachel Wood, and Guy Pearce. The two Academy Award honorees worked on their small-screen project before The Fighter actress clinched her prize, and Melissa even said her expletive-laced acceptance speech was inspired by Kate!

Last night, though, there was even more love flowing from the costars to leading lady Kate as many commented on her great attitude on the New York set last year. Evan referred to Kate as "my favorite actress hands down" before revealing the nickname she's been given by her The Ides of March director George Clooney, who apparently calls her Schnoz! Kate, meanwhile, shared her secret to both doing long hours and having a sunny attitude. She said, "You just have to do it! You have to team lead and you have to just plow on through. The thing is as well, when you're playing a character who is so present on the set, everyone sort of leads by example. I knew I had to be a leader in that sense . . . it helps everybody. You all want to enjoy your work and do the best job that you can. When the leading actor is being effervescent and positive, I think it makes a big difference to the atmosphere. But I'm always like that! Or I try to be!"

Buzzworthy Preview: Kate Winslet in HBO's Mildred Pierce

Will another complicated mother-daughter relationship prove to garner more critical success for HBO?

Will another complicated mother-daughter relationship prove to garner more critical success for HBO? The network that brought us Grey Gardens (which earned Drew Barrymore a Golden Globe) is debuting a miniseries remake of the 1945 film Mildred Pierce. The series chronicles the strained ties between a single mother (Kate Winslet) and her spoiled, ambitious offspring (Evan Rachel Wood).

To say I'm excited is an understatement. It's not every day that we see acting powerhouse Winslet on the small screen, and judging by this trailer, she's delivering the same complexity and raw emotion that she brings to her films (also note the supporting cast of notables like Guy Pearce and Melissa Leo). The series won't debut until 2011, but get a peek now when you read more
