Movie Preview: Shrek Forever After

Hope you're not tired of the sudden influx of movie trailers lately (in the past few days we've taken a peek at Iron Man 2, The Runaways, and Alice in Wonderland), because now here's one for the fourth Shrek film.

Hope you're not tired of the sudden influx of movie trailers lately (in the past few days we've taken a peek at Iron Man 2, The Runaways, and Alice in Wonderland), because now here's one for the fourth Shrek film. In Shrek Forever After, Shrek grows tired of his quiet life with Fiona (and ogre babies!) and inadvertently signs a contract that turns his world upside down. In the alternate Far Far Away universe, Shrek's friends don't recognize him, Puss in Boots has fattened up and Fiona appears to be some kind of criminal.

Of course it's got the voices we've come to know and love along with the typical wisecracks, but I have to admit that I'm kind of relieved to hear that this will be the last chapter in the franchise. Don't get me wrong — I love that big green ogre, but I think it may be time to let the films be remembered as classics and move on to something new.

Brad and Angelina Lead the Afterparty Parade

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie let loose with the rest of the cast of Inglourious Basterds at a party after the big premiere in Cannes yesterday.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie let loose with the rest of the cast of Inglourious Basterds at a party after the big premiere in Cannes yesterday. They looked happy cozying up to each other and chatting with their fellow party-goers, like Quentin Tarantino and Emile Hirsch, though apparently there were eight bodyguards keeping a close eye on the couple at all times. Diane Kruger snuggled up with Joshua Jackson, who skipped the red carpet earlier to let his lady have the spotlight. Robin Wright Penn got down on the dance floor as the whole crew continued to enjoyed all the star-studded goodness the festival has to offer.

Jim Carrey

Cameron, Keanu, Jim and Jenny Join for a Night at the Movies

Fresh from a weekend on the set of Yes Man, Jim Carrey went out with Jenny McCarthy for AFI's Night At The Movies presented by Target in LA.

Fresh from a weekend on the set of Yes Man, Jim Carrey went out with Jenny McCarthy for AFI's Night At The Movies presented by Target in LA. They weren't the only stars out for the red carpet — Keanu Reeves kept it typically dark while Cameron Diaz had that in love smile on her face though no hot Paul by her side. Plus at the end of those long legs were some adorable polka dot shoes. The event included simultaneous screenings of 12 classic American movies with introductions from their stars — Jim went on stage to talk about Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Keanu for The Matrix, Cameron for There's Something About Mary and on and on from Dustin Hoffman to Mike Meyers. Sounds like a perfect way to take in a Wednesday night at the movies taking a walk down memory lane joined by some of the world's biggest stars.

According to The Boston Globe, there's a rumor floating around that Gisele Bundchen is being considered for the leading lady role in the next Austin Powers movie. She'd be following in the footsteps of past Austin Powers girls Elizabeth Hurley, Heather Graham and Beyonce.

Each of these ladies brought a certain something to the Austin Powers franchise, but which do you like best as Austin's female counterpart?

Movie Preview: The Love Guru With Meyers, Alba, Timberlake and More

Okay, I'm willing to give The Love Guru a huge chance based on the cast alone: Mike Meyers (natch), Romany Malco (Conrad from Weeds!), Justin Timberlake (dressed all funny and bewigged), John Oliver (hilarious British guy from The Daily Show) and Ben Kingsley (funny because of, you know, his Oscar-winning performance as Ghandi).

Oh, and Jessica Alba's in it too.

The new trailer for The Love Guru looks silly in the Austin Powers kind of way, though less charming and less humorous. Still, I have sorely missed Mike Meyers in recent years and it's oddly comforting to see him back in action. According to IMDB, Meyers plays a guru who travels to the U.S. in the hopes of breaking into the self-help business. "His first challenge: To settle the romantic troubles and subsequent professional skid of a star hockey player (Malco) whose wife left him for a rival athlete (Timberlake)." The Love Guru opens June 20. To check out the trailer and tell me what you think, read more

Halloween

Movie Preview: Halloween

It feels way early to be watching the trailer for Rob Zombie's Halloween, but there are only a few weeks left before the horror/thriller hits theaters.

It feels way early to be watching the trailer for Rob Zombie's Halloween, but there are only a few weeks left before the horror/thriller hits theaters.

Opening August 31, Halloween tells the story of Mike Meyers' break from the mental institution that has held him since the age of 10, and his bloody quest to find his little sister.

The trailer is effectively scary, though again, it's confusing to see this in the heat of the summer. You can watch the trailer and let me know what you think if you read more

Shrek the Third: Pretty Good... For a Sequel

I'd actually expected really good things from Shrek the Third, but it turns out this is a case of the funniest bits being in the trailer.

I'd actually expected really good things from Shrek the Third, but it turns out this is a case of the funniest bits being in the trailer. Sure, the movie succeeds in the way all Shrek movies do: there's plenty of kid humor (physical gags, farts, etc.) and adult humor (cultural references, puns galore, songs we recognize) all played out with colorful animated fairy tale characters. In this sense, Shrek the Third is perfectly satisfying as a family movie everyone can enjoy. But is it as good as the first Shrek movie was? Nah.

At the movie's start, Shrek and Fiona are filling in for the ailing king of Far, Far Away with the help of Puss in Boots, Donkey and Donkey's brood of half-donkeys/half-dragons. Shrek and Fiona find the job of running a kingdom not to their liking, so when the king reveals that there is another heir to the throne, Arthur (or Artie as the bullies at his high school know him), Shrek sets off to make Artie the new king. In the meantime, Prince Charming is still determined to be king and rallies all the fairy tale villains to help him storm the kingdom. This doesn't sit well with the princesses, however, who take matters into their own hands rather than waiting for their men to rescue them. That's not all there is to this movie, though, so read more
