What to Rent: New DVDs This Week

Due Date Robert Downey Jr. and Zach Galifiankis pair up for this comedy about a tightly wound father-to-be (Downey) who is forced to take a road trip with an eccentric schlub (Galifiankis) in order to make it home in time for the birth of his child.

Due Date

Robert Downey Jr. and Zach Galifiankis pair up for this comedy about a tightly wound father-to-be (Downey) who is forced to take a road trip with an eccentric schlub (Galifiankis) in order to make it home in time for the birth of his child. Naturally, the trip is thwarted by one disaster after another. The film isn't quite as funny as director Todd Phillips's The Hangover, but Downey has some hilarious moments and even manages to outshine Galifiankis and his usual routine. DVD bonus features include deleted scenes and a gag reel.

Megamind

Will Ferrell headlines this animated flick about alien super villain Megamind, while Brad Pitt voices his charming nemesis, Metro Man. When Megamind defeats his rival once and for all, he struggles to find purpose in a life where there's no good guy to battle. Tina Fey and Jonah Hill round out the star-studded cast as a reporter/love interest for Megamind and her camera man. The film didn't stand out among 2010 greats like Toy Story 3, but Megamind is just the ticket if you're looking for a fun family film. Bonus features include deleted scenes, filmmaker commentary, and games.

Brad Pitt Wears Leather Pants to Match Angelina's Velvet at Paris Megamind Premiere

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie stuck with all black but mixed up materials for this evening's Paris premiere of Megamind.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie stuck with all black but mixed up materials for this evening's Paris premiere of Megamind. He stars in the animated movie and took a risk with black leather cargo pants while her top sparkled under a velvet pantsuit. Perhaps we spoke too soon being thankful for Brad's clean-shaven face as he was once again sporting a full goatee and longer hair. They looked ready for Winter on the red carpet and shared public PDA after bundling their whole family up to celebrate Pax's birthday yesterday with a hot air balloon ride and nighttime cruise on the Seine. Pax actually turns seven today and the Jolie-Pitt crew is all in France for Brad's screening today and Angelina's The Tourist press junket over the next few days.

Box Office: Harry Potter Is Deathly Competition

We all saw this one coming, but Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part I tore up the box office in its debut weekend, taking in a staggering $125.1 million. Those numbers earned the film the sixth-highest opening weekend of all time, and was the best debut for the franchise to date. Last week's champ, Megamind, settled for a distant second place with $16.1 million.

Unstoppable took third with $13.1 million, followed by Due Date with $9.1 million. Rounding out the top five was newbie The Next Three Days, which clocked in at $6.7 million. With a holiday weekend on the horizon, I'm expecting Potter to add to its impressive tally — what will you be seeing over the Thanksgiving break?
