Buzz Lines: What's Your Favorite Quote From Meet the Parents?

Before there was a whole crop of Fockers, the 2000 comedy Meet the Parents had me laughing and quoting up a storm, thanks to the myriad awkward scenes between Greg (Ben Stiller) and Jack (Robert De Niro).

Before there was a whole crop of Fockers, the 2000 comedy Meet the Parents had me laughing and quoting up a storm, thanks to the myriad awkward scenes between Greg (Ben Stiller) and Jack (Robert De Niro). The later sequels don't hold a candle to the original as far as I'm concerned, so let's focus on the first in the franchise for the latest edition of Buzz Lines. I've gotten you started with three of my favorites, so now it's your turn to add your own in the comments.

  • "I have nipples, Greg. Could you milk me?" — Jack
  • "Did they teach you that in the CIA?" — Greg
  • "Are you a pothead, Focker?" — Jack

What Are Your Worst Meet-the-Parents Stories?

A few years ago, I flew out the day after Christmas to go see my boyfriend in his hometown and meet his family.

A few years ago, I flew out the day after Christmas to go see my boyfriend in his hometown and meet his family. We were staying at his parents' house for a few nights. I brought them a present (if you need some ideas, check these out) and did my best to impress at our first dinner together. Well I must have caught something on the airplane because the next morning I woke up around 5 a.m. with a horrible stomachache and ran to the bathroom to throw up. I prayed it had passed, so I said I felt OK enough to go to lunch at the special restaurant where they had made hard-to-get reservations. Well on the way out I got sick again, and ended up throwing up on his father's car! There was no avoiding the fact that I had the flu, and I spent the next 24 hours at his parents' house either in bed with a fever and chills or in the bathroom.

While I think I have a pretty embarrassing meet-the-parents story, I've heard some other bad ones. Like from my friend whose boyfriend lost his luggage upon arriving and had to borrow her dad's clothes. Do you have any horror stories that might instill fear in those meeting their partner's parents for the first time this holiday season?

Lo Bosworth Has Smart Secrets For Meeting Parents — Do You?

Lo Bosworth has traded in The Hills for the web, creating her very own blog.

Lo Bosworth has traded in The Hills for the web, creating her very own blog. Perhaps the actual content will be as clever as the site's title — The Lo Down. Well her post today makes me think Lo can hand out some solid advice.

She takes up the subject of meeting the parents, "specifically of the boyfriend variety," and provides a pre-meeting to-do list. The ideas include: buying a small gift, discussing the sleeping arrangements beforehand, and — my favorite — staying in the night before. Last week I asked you all to brainstorm some new faces for the Ben Stiller hit, Meet the Parents. I had fun reading all the ideas put forth for Gaylord "Greg" Focker including krae85's suggestion of Jack Black. I'm also glad eegle1234 thought of Sarah Michelle Gellar to play Pam, as I think that's such a great idea.

To me, the movie rests on just how intimidating (yet funny) the actor playing Jack Byrnes can be. Amanda6783's idea for Bruce Willis is a really good one, as is lemuse20's suggestion of Christopher Walken. Both actors totally get how to be intimidating and have great comedic timing.

But it was sundew's idea for Jack that was the hardest to resist. Congrats sundew!

Since we're coming upon the time of year when lots of folks bring home that special someone to meet the family, I thought the Ben Stiller comedy Meet the Parents would be a fun movie to recast.

Who would you cast as the young couple in love: Male nurse Gaylord "Greg" Focker, and his fiancee Pam Byrnes? Then there's Pam's overprotective father, Jack Byrnes, a retired CIA operative played by an intimidating Robert De Niro. Blythe Danner as Pam's mother, Dina Byrnes, is superbly clueless in the role — who has a similarly sweet, calming manner? And then there's my favorite character to recast, Kevin Rawley (originally played by Owen Wilson), Pam's rich ex-fiance who is really good at woodworking.

Leave your entry in the comment section below, and I'll pick one winner to feature Tuesday, Dec. 9, complete with a "new" cast photo. To see a list of characters to recast and a photo of the BuzzSugar t-shirt, read more
